Shure PSM900, or Sennheiser EW G4. The $1,500 unit is a twin pack setup, both the Shure and Sennheiser single packs can be had for less than $1,000. Most important thing with the IEM’s is to get custom fits.
True, the 900’s are a far better choice than the 300’s. However, the lack of networking on both are deal breakers for me
Shure PSM 900 or Senheiser EW IEM G4. or for something cheaper I would do Shure PSM 300 or Senheiser XSW iem. You could also look into a prebuilt system (e g. If I was a pro I would use the best thing that I could replace quickly regardless of where I was playing. Everyone carries Shure PSM systems and in-ears. Wherever I play, there they are. With custom ear molds and an EQ I can skip the search for perfect drivers and get on with my life.
Go backstage to any video village or monitor mix or RF-A2 position on any show anywhere and you will find every headset is Sony Studio Monitors (MDR7506). Good quality, great price, all parts compatible with clearcom so when your intercom dies you just ratfuck the headphone box for replacement parts. In my own studio if I’m not using the 7506s it’s because I am wearing my IEMs. Shure SE215 or SE425. I usually just grab the 215s because I can’t hear the difference between 215 and 425. Too much artillery, too many gigs.
If you’re going to go the full 9 yards, it’s quite the thing to get into. I have a behringer xr18 that I control with an old iPad. I have various drum mics going into the xr18 and can send that to a behringer 8 channel headphone amp. I have shure se 425 in ear monitors and in my practice room I **always 100% of the time also use construction/over ear style ear muffs**. I really don’t need all this stuff unless I’m recording. I can use just the SE425s, AirPods, or whatever with the earmuffs over them and music at 50%ish volume and I can clearly hear the music and all of my drums. But all that is just to give you an example of a setup
Shure SE425. For almost 10 years now.
