"I'm not a fan of Harman Target’s midrange presentation. It sounds both shouty and thin, whether for male or female vocals. ... The 200Hz bass tuck, combined with the elevation in the 3-5kHz range, makes it annoying to listen to. ... SM4, however, is the complete opposite of my taste, tuned to sound cleaner and analytical in the midrange. ... But the 200–300Hz dip is still an issue, making everything sound thin."

Well I own supermix 4 : its is highly technical thats for sure …. ( not a VERY audiophile listener but have interest in this hobby ) … thats the first thing I noticed about them thay they are hight technical… very detail can be heard …. It lacks midbass … though not that fan of too much mid bass so its ok… can’t fault vocals…. Vocals seems great … soundstage seems really good for price point

The Supermix 4 when using it for general video watching. The mid scoop really messes with vocal audio. The Blessing 3 for how bright / sibilant and clinical it was. I think these two are my favorite IEMs in terms of looks and design, but their sounds were disappointing.

While I probably understand where you’re coming from, neutral is at least mathematically represented as a flat frequency curve. But I agree. I have pretty solid studio monitors at home. I thought of complementing it with a somewhat reasonably priced simgot supermix 4 since the curves seemed more Harman like. While it is true to tuning, I’ve realized I care a lot about transient response (spoilt by my other setup) and imaging, not much about soundstage (again influenced by near field monitors). And while the iem does well in imaging, the transients are just not upto mark. But both have their sweet spots depending on how I feel that day

IEMs have better sound, better tuning than similarly priced Headphones. But most of the IEMs don't come with Mic. IEMs also have varying sizes of Nozzles that go deep into Ear-canal, fit can vary, some are comfortable and some can cause pain. I am using Simgot SM4 for gaming and they are very good for what they are. I don't enjoy my TWS now and have to incur extra charges on Apple Music for Hi-Res Music. For FPS games, consider V-Shaped / Harman Sound Signature. For Immersion/Story Games, any Signature will suffice.

I have the Aful and EW300. Sold the Supermix 4. For gaming and or just big sound the supermix 4 is best but felt clinical. The Aful sounded the muddiest but it's actually not muddy at all, it's just very smooth and is my go to for all day fatigue free listening at work. EW300 is my backup that never gets used. Good all arounder but the smallest sound. These days, I use the Ziigaat Odyssey for music enjoyment.

Get a cheaper mic arm and remove the dac, you can get better IEMs. I have the Hexas and the Hexas are good for their price for sure, but at double the price you can get a whole list of great IEMs around the 160 range. A better iem does far more difference for audio quality than any dac would. From my subjective experience, IEMs really do go up linearly in quality from budget to mid-fi. I went from the Hexas to the 300-400 dollar Thieaudio hype 4s and I can say in my opinion it is at least 4 times better in enjoyment for me. Same goes for 80 to 160. I think the super mix 4 is like almost 2 times better than the Hexas, this is all subjective of course. Jays Audio just made a great video with a comprehensive list of competitive Iems at that range. As someone else said, get an apple dongle instead or just plug it into your PC. Also I recommend a cheaper mic such as the solocast if you want to squeeze out more for 10 dollars and get better iems. If you use your onboard headphone jack on your PC, a 20 dollar arm (or no arm at all to save even more), and a 40 dollar mic, you are spending 40 or 60 dollars and leave about 190 to 210 for a great IEM. Here is the video that I mentioned: https://youtu.be/dapR2KQDXhQ?si=PyQILHFZPE36J2z1 In the description of the video he also leaves a genre guide and a ranking list of all the IEMs he listened to and their prices, you can even find many of them on AliExpress for even cheaper sometimes if you are willing to wait for the shipping. Edit: For gaming I prefer a tuning with clear treble since you will hear more detail and things will seem more spacious

I would highly recommend the supermix 4s, there is also a linsoul sale soon on the 18th and they have coupons for 50$ off if you pay 2$ for it now. You can definitely end up getting the supermix 4 for around 100$ that way and you’ll love it!! Metal faceplate and it’s a quadbrid driver setup (4 different types of drivers). I don’t think it’s worth buying the lower end 30-50$ sets as you’ll want more, this way you’ll end up with a really good set that’ll last you a long while, for music and gaming. I also would recommend the apple usb-c to aux from Amazon as a temporary cheap dac (digital audio control), yes it’s better than using the aux that comes with your pc case/ motherboard. I’ve tried many many IEMs and own a few 300-500$ sets and even though I sell off some to buy others, I always have a set of supermix 4s as a backup, amazing fit and adequate sound and imaging.

In my opinion, I have tried the quintet and it doesn’t sound like a $200 IEM, but something like the super mix 4 which is $150 sounds like a $300 IEM in it’s technicalities. You can usually tell by listening to very vocal centric music, or even gaming. Plus the source that you run them through could also impact a sound difference. If you’re running them through a laptop, audio Jack, you’re not getting the full experience of your IEM

I would suggest using the community ranking lists to see what appeals to you in both looks and price. I would say that the super mix 4 which is on Amazon and goes on sale, is very good tech wise for fps games and decently musical for normal comfort listening, for it’s given price bracket. If you want something even more, popular picks are the Xenns Tea Pro (metal shell and reputable brand) or the Kiwi Ears Astral (resin shell and slightly more affordable than the tea pro) both are just as good and on Amazon. Hope this helps, cheers man.

I've bought about a dozen IEMs over the last couple of years (from £15 - £380). By far my favourite for gaming is my Fiio JH5. It's really well built, with a great cable and it's really immersive when I'm playing Starfield for hours on end. https://preview.redd.it/agfw9ic7eaaf1.jpeg?width=2724&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa12fbbda2c9dcd54a1f7e0bd36bac6ad06ffa55 I recently decided to try the Simgot Supermix 4 as I'd heard that it was great for gaming. I ended up sending it back, as I thought the JH5 was noticeably better. I did recently ditch the Xbox wireless joypad for a wired Razer Wolverine V2. The sound was considerably better through the wired connection, so I'd definitely recommend this upgrade too (if you have an Xbox). I just wish Microsoft hadn't ditched the digital audio out from the previous Xbox - talk about a retrograde step...

If you don't need a mic, go with iems. I have a few pairs and they're better than any of the gaming headsets I've used (Arctic nova pro, turtle beach stealth 700, pc38x). If it has to have a mic I've enjoyed the sound on my pc38x's the most; open back though, if that makes a difference. Check out gadgetrytech on YouTube. He has great content stuff this. My favorite items are the zigaat aretes but they're a but spendy. Simgot supermixes are very good and cheaper.

There aren't that many once you've ruled out Etymotic. Honestly at that 'lower than Studio 4' price range you might as well go for the Studio 4. Aful Performer 5+2 / 8: Relaxed pinna gain at 2-4kHz means reduced vocal bite; speech and 'breathiness' is sacrificed slightly for a more relaxed, pleasant presentation. Not neutral. Anecdotally, I've heard the Performer 8, the soundstage is wide but centre image is weak. Moondrop Dusk: crinacle's house sound = big bass shelf. No go for neutrality. Moondrop Blessing 3: Upper-mids/lower treble emphasized (4-6kHz) beyond neutral. Supermix 4: Harman, i.e not neutral (bass and upper-mids emphasized) Thieaudio: U-shaped is their house sound from the Hype 2 all the way to the Valhalla. Extra bass and spicy treble. Not neutral. I would add that the Hexas aren't neutral either, they have too much bass for it, it's simply masked by the fact that its bass is sloped, not a shelf. All the 'Meta' IEMs out so far also fail in the neutral bass department by having too much of it. This includes the KE4, Volume S, Mega5EST and even CrinEar's 'Reference', if his chart is to go by. Graphs are worth looking at for reference. So you only really have the Studio 4 left. That, or an IER-M7 if you could get it for cheap.

People prefer EW300 because it has more bass and warm sounding. The treble is controlled and detailed. If you like the Harman curve, Supermix 4 is bang on that. It has better technicalities and is considered as value for money. Reviewers prefer it because how closely it matches the Truthear Nova which is one of the best IEMs in that price range if you want Harman Tuning.

I'm saying that Harman is V shaped. Not Vocal forwarded as you said. I never mentioned it being flat. Harman is known for recessed mids, hence thin male vocals. The EW300 has more warmth in vocals. Unless you are talking about Female vocals.

The only one in your list I have experience with is the supermix 4 and I agree with you. I have the Tea Pro now and it's pretty darn good for FPS gaming. The imaging is spot on to my ears. It has, what I feel, is the max sound stage an IEM can do. I even tested my friend's Monarch MK3 against them and the gaming performance was similar with the mk3 edging them out in bf2042. Both are tremendous for gaming. The mk3 is amazing at everything imo.

The clarity also on FPS games is fantastic. Select a good AMP-DAC, since this WILL affect their sound when you plug them into a Desktop or Laptop.

I am with you. I play a lot fps and other games, and also collect vinyl and listen to music via a good HiFi System. I tried the last weeks the EM6L and the Supermix 4 as all big youtubers recommand them or better hyped them. a lot who are deep in IEM and headphones and frequencies graphes recommand them no wait hyped them too. Over a lot other IEMs. From audiophile side, stay away from both. get some good over ears for 120-200€ and you will enjoy music. For gaming. Try you buds which comes with your cellphone and tell me that you cant play a game anymore. Get a IEM, when you will, for around 30€ and play. You will see there is no real difference specially in the mids and more in treble where all the relevant sound is located in your games. American maybe Asians love bassy boomy IEM but thats not for music nore for gaming. Save the money you will have same fun, wont kill less enemies but can spent it for other things. maybe another inexpensive pair of IEM \^\^ Oh and never follow the hyped stuff. find your own way.

I would recommend buying some cheap pairs to figure out what you like then going from there. Personally I have the SM4, Explorers, ARTTI T10, and Hexa for inside use. Outside my house I have the Wan’er, Rosefinch, and Cadenza. A lot of people are going to blindly recommend the Explorers for everything and while I use the Explorers the most for day to day music because they’re relaxed and warm theyre not something I would ever consider using for a competitive shooter. Price for performance I still think the best on the market is the ARTTI T10. If you’re in the US you can get it off Amazon for $56 right now. The shell is plastic but that’s really the only negative I have for it.

I love the Simgot Supermix 4 for fast paced fps gaming as it's imagining and sound stage are fantastic, plus it's technicalities while listening to music are brilliant. Takes EQ well enough and they have their place in my set up. But i have been daily driving the Punch Audio Martilo the past few weeks and oh my days, these are so much fun for music and movies. not really an audiophile so I cannot use any fancy words, but the supermix4's clarity is decent, tried the seeaudio braveries once but the SM4's clarity isn't as good as the braveries, but I find the braveries incredibly boring due to how safe it was with not a single ounce of treble in my ears, I really like treble and even like some sibilance in my ears, and the SM4 fulfilled just that. SM4's imaging is good too, when I use them to play some FPS like R6, strinova, fragpunk they can pinpoint the gunshots and footstep nicely. The supermix4 also has lots of bass in it, although they are pretty sharp and goes by very quick.

I'm the other way around, SM4 is very fun for me, I really like treble to the point where they r sibilant. The treble details is just great and the bass decay is super fast so it doesn't close the higher regions. The tea pros however are very dark and feels boring for me instead, it's still very detailed and the seperation is very nice, but it's so dark and I cannot feel the treble extension

Soundstage. Some IEMs just have pretty godawful soundstage, ie Etymotic ER2XR. If an Etymotic ER2xr had fantastic soundstage wouldn't that be a dream. :D But it's mainly soundstage. I should mention that some IEMs that are great for gaming can be HORRIBLE and dogshit for vocals, ie the Supermix 4. I'm sure it's great for gaming. Godawful for vocals. For people who love the Supermix4, you likely don't listen to the same music as I do. It's hecking terrible for music.

Really solid post, enjoyed reading your impressions on the SM4! They align a lot with mine, feel the mids are a little recessed and thin and can get overpowered by the sub-bass on certain tracks. It also leans on the technical/analytical side and coming from warm & musical sets the amount of detail gave me a bit of a headache at first. Overall a great set though, plays most genres in my library decently well and punches above its weight at this price range especially if you manage to get it on sale. Detail retrieval and resolution was on par with some of my older, more pricey sets. Also have to give props to Simgot for how well-integrated the drivers, despite the use of 4 different driver types, the cohesiveness of the SM4 is a stand-out factor to me.

Some basic rules: 1. It has to be either an IEM you currently have in your collection or an IEM you have used before. So it can be an IEM you have demo'd, borrowed, or previously owned. **You have to actually know what the IEM sounds like.** 2. As mentioned in the title, **no EQing the IEM**. You have to stick with its out-of-the-box sound profile. 3. Music genre can be as specific or as general as you want. 4. For the purposes of this hypothetical, **assume you have access to your ideal source, eartips, cable, etc. Your music is available to you in the highest resolution possible.** 5. Feel free to bend the rules, but try not to break them. My choice would be my Simgot Supermix 4 and the genre would probably be Pop (especially J-Pop). Maybe it's not my favorite genre, but it's one that provides a lot of variety. Runner up is "video game soundtracks", though that's not really a genre. If I could bend the rules it might be my TGXear Serratus 2 and Indie Rock. They're a fantastic combination. The Serratus 2 are earphones though, so I am definitely bending the rules. **So, what's your combo, r/iem?**

Happy cake! Onto the question, in my personal listening experience I found it to be overall pleasant. As reference, I have the Subbassy Thieaudio Hype 4 and the Harman tuned Simgot SuperMix 4. Call me biased but I love Subbass. These ones are definitely a happy place for me. To my ears, the vocals are clear and forward. I don't hear much distortion on my set and the sounds feel very good. Bass like 808s and Kick drums have a good punch to them. There are some songs where I feel the bass guitar does tend to get lost in the mix, but I feel the rest of the positives make up for it. There's good space in the sound and it's good for gaming. I'm not too sure about competitive shooters, but if you're playing more immersive single player games (City Builder, Stardew, Monster Hunter, God of War) there's enough immersion to feel the weight and impact of key moments. Overall pretty good, it's not a $200 headphone but you can convince me it's closer to $100 for the sound quality https://preview.redd.it/4ak1cgyil6te1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b62b30f17ae95994bafae9e6268e6e896846abb8 (My set, I bought the NiceHCK RedAg cable for aesthetics)

A bit late to conversation - I own Supermix 4 and with the driver setup it is HIGHLY underrated set, especially if you are into EQ. For a basic set, S4 is really technical, yet musical, goes head to head with sets above the price range. When you add EQ - I believe the driver setup is really shining there. With a mix (supermix? ;) ) of DD, Planar and PZT, you can EQ to pretty much any preference. Liking treble spark, it's there. Punchy quick mid-base response - check. Vocal forward - great experience. Bass extension is also very good. As a comparison: if you like the planar tachnicalities of sets like s12, Timeless 2 etc. but you are not into that planar "metallic" zing (I like that personally) then S4 is your pick. I honestly do not believe there anything I can reccomend more in this 140$ ish price range. But waiting to be updated by others of course :)

And for Zarathustra, the YouTube version has less dynamic than the version I found on Deezer. I didn't find the start too low. It starts with very deep bass (and I guess your iem could struggle on that) then the volume really jumps. To me, all fine. With a good hifi master source and my DAC giving enough power to the IEMs. But the EA500LM doesn't need a DAC, it's easy to drive. Plenty of volume easily. The T10... It's a bit more demanding. S08, it's in between from what I remember, not too difficult. EDIT : S08 needs some power, trying it now. It can handle busy tracks, I'm a bit harsh with it, it's really good. Just not my fav.

I don't have very expensive headsets, so it's a bit hard to compare. But I have Hifiman Ananda too, and used them as a reference for "a more expensive headset that sounds quite good". From some quick tests, I think that S08 / T10 / EA500LM are all very good value for the money, they can keep up very decently, handle "busy" tracks, have details and clarity (I'm no super expert, again). I checked what you consider your best iem, it's very cheap. I guess it's still good but I think you will get an improvement from a 50-100$ device. Is it going to be night and day? I'm not sure. But I'm very happy with both the T10 and EA500LM (I find the S08 a bit "boring", it's less lively than the other two, personal opinion of course, but it's more relaxing at the same time). I have Simgot EW200 and listened to Chu II too (in your current price range), I find them very ok for the price, but I still prefer my duo. I wouldn't go back to cheaper. I EQ my IEMs also, it helps to "tame" their lacks also and adapt to your taste. I still find all three fine without EQ. Ear tips can be an issue / solution also, I changed some with significant difference, especially on bass. Cheap way to improve some IEMs ! Size can matter also, I have SuperMix 4 also, they can handle busy tracks very fine, but they are big and it's an issue for my ears. I'm not sure if they sound that much better than the EA500LM to me, even if the latter is a single DD. They are smaller, they look better to me, good fit, and I love how they sound. Not neutral though, I guess. But they make me wonder if I will ever want much more expensive IEMs. Worth trying this kind of budget for you before investing in x00$ devices I think !

all those good stuff are very limited production from small brands(only cheaper stuff gets made a lot), I'd suggest new Apevoix Grit at $229 as by far the best value from good midrange ones, if you go down from there in price you get way worse sound quality, it's not that much worse for gaming but it's worse for gaming too, $89 Kefine Delci AE for example($150 simgot supermix4 is bit better for music but same for gaming basically)

I think the KB02 is a good entry point to bone conduction. Effectiveness of the tech seems to vary from person to person and the low price would be a good way to understand if you would prefer to get higher end BC like the DMAs or a multi hybrid set like the Supermix 4. You might even be happy with the KB02, ultra budget sets can be very surprising. I was using a set of borrowed Supermix 4 for gaming (excellent btw) when I added KZ PRX planars to an order just to bump my total up to the next coupon tier. I returned the Supermix because the cheap PRX set (on a 4.4 balanced cable with a good source) sounded better to my ear for gaming and music. A tuning which matches your personal sound preferences can trump a technically better IEM.

Yes, the shell is more comfortable and fits well in small ears, better stock cable, smoother and cleaner sound presentation, more technically capable, scales excellent with powerful sources or an impedance adapter (you can check the Audio Amigo video about impedance adapters and cables with high impedance, the Sm4 becomes a bass cannon with that). Howdy, I’ve had my Supermix 4 for several months. Love them. I get it, Harmon isn’t for everyone one but apparently I like it. In comes the DayBreak. Got them two days ago and have been listening to them throughly since, switching back and forth to my Supermix to compare from time to time on some tracks. Impression: love the build/packaging and accessories. As for the sound? I just don’t get it. It sounds nice, natural with some warmth in the mids, a good amount of bass and some (harsh imo) treble. When I compare them to the Supermix 4, the sound immediately closes in, there is space and room with my Supermix and the Daybreak make it seem like a closet. Gone is the nice thump in sub-bass, I mean there is bass but not the rumbling kind. The air up top (while brighter on the Supermix, comes across less harsh to me) perhaps this is because of the sense of space? The one area I like the DayBreak more in is the mids. They are a little warmer and pushed forward. I don’t know if this is upper mids or regular mids. I just noticed a touch more warmth and presence that was nice. All in all the Daybreak sound “nice”. They do not do anything exciting to me though. The Supermix have better bass rumble, more airy treble and a better sense of space to my ears. That all comes across as a more exciting and engaging listen imo. Idk maybe I’m weird. These are supposed to be tuned to the “new meta” target. Guess I’m just not the type of listener for it though. Like I said, great package and accessories though, and the IEMs look nice and feel built well. I just think I will stick with my Supermix 4’s. Cheers! “EDIT” I have now listen to the DayBreaks exclusively for the last several days. Used in my Hiby R6 iii/JDS Element 4 and I have to say. I much prefer the daybreak now. Going back to the Supermix, everything just feels “thin”. I still like the Supermix but man these DayBreaks have grown on me. Played around with EQ’ing the bass on them and they can SLAM. It’s not needed but still cool for some tracks. Morale of the story for me I suppose. Is to give things some time before making a reaction. Brain burn in is real for sure haha

I'm just a hobbyist so I'd never consider myself 'qualified' tbh. I'll happily take the compliment though! There's definitely a step up from the budget IEMs in terms of clarity. I have no idea what you're actually supposed to use for stuff like mixing although my intuition says to go for DD or DD/BA hybrid sets as I think they tend to sound the most natural (or at least what most people will be familiar with). If these are to give you a rest from your speakers and headphones I guess comfort is pretty important too - I typically avoid IEMs with bigger shells although I've found the Supermix 4 to be surprisingly comfortable so I'd guess that anything else with a custom looking plastic inner shell would do the job too. The Edition XS definitely sound great and I've heard them recommended for mixing (I had to pitch them as a valuable resource my band have between us as we're looking at getting into recording and mixing currently). The thing they do that I've not heard done as well on cheaper pairs like the HE400 is the sound stage, imaging and just how 'big' they sound which I think would be great for mixing.

Thanks to Amazon.es, I tested them all... I ordered them, tried them for 1/2 weeks and returned them. I also had the Zero Red, gate and hexa but the order for me was em6l, ew300, tripowin, red, supermix, hexa and gate.

I also play Hunt Showdown and have tried the S08 < SM4 < Tea Pro. I would put them in that order in my experience, given the amount of bass in the explosions of games OP mentions I think I would agree moving up to the SM4 range is probably advisable. S08s left a lot of background rumble in intense firefights which hurt some of the directional clarity. S08s are great for my music taste at the price point though. Also love how durable they are when bringing them to work so can recommend as well for edm/rock/metal.

I posted above but I did this, I went Supermix 4 -> Tea Pro then started experimenting back to more budget models with different tuning (dark, treblehead, meta, etc). Ultimately, I would die on a hill that if done correctly more drivers is absolutely an advantage when it comes to clarity and separation. If you enjoy those specific attributes once you hit that $300-$600 range there is no going back. Moving up from the Tea Pro took me like 7 months, but I just got a MEST MK2 last week and it is unreal amounts of detail with a unique soundstage that you would just need to experience. Tea Pros will stay for gaming and laid back music listening, everything else will be collecting dust now which means dead money.

Nothing technical to add, just that I enjoy these posts. Again this is something that a laymen like me can "feely"craft but understanding the mechanics around it is interesting. This feels 100% accurate in my experience as a casual observer, some other common IEMs for gaming that are recommended would be Simgot SuperMix 4 and Mangird Tea Pro (I owned both of these at one point). When playing Hunt: Showdown to my ears it was objectively easy to tell that the SuperMix 4 had less overall bass AND it was also a lot slower to recover to spikes in volume (say a barrel or explosive detonating nearby). Once I had purchased the Tea Pros, the tightness of the bass was extremely noticeable and this seemed to help clean up some of the mids and low treble to make it easier to discern the separation in chaotic environments. Another interesting thought as you had mentioned the Arrti T10, I used the Letshuoer S08s which was a full planar set for a few weeks as well when I had just gotten into the hobby. The difference in the spactial "feeling" not the actual precision itself is another concept that I would love to understand. To me it feels like there is a difference between the precision and how distance plays out on the stage created. For example, I believe with all the sets I have mentioned I could get a good sense of direction based on a sound cue; however, all three sets have a very different resolution of 3D space. I attempted to test as best I could the difference between the MEST Mk2 and Tea Pros to see if I would like one or the other more over the last few days. The Tea Pro's space resolution feels less detailed but more accurate to relative distance, the MEST provides absolutely unparalleled detail but because of the recessed pinna mids messes with the distance some. Both could absolutely be used but one does a better job at creating space "around you" rather than "in front" of you. Is there any way to objectively analyze the perception of that 3D space that is being created?

You seem to be following a similar upgrade path that I did a few months ago, the Tea Pro was a noticeable step up for gaming and a large step up musically for me. The SM4 was missing a little fun at the bottom, I don't like a ton of bass but the Tea Pro is much more fun in that area where I can EQ down to my preference. For gaming the Tea Pros so far are a 10/10, I play mostly Hunt: Showdown and the additional separation, staging, and tighter but punchy bass were all noticeably better for my ears. Additionally, they let me explore EQing a bit more to find my tuning preference. Now I am looking for more of an endgame for my music taste. I will be hanging onto these until they stop working for certain.

So I just got the MEST MK2s last week, and they have become my favorite musical set almost instantly. It’s just so pleasing and unique it’s hard to describe. I have also messed with Letshuoer S08s, Simgot SM4, Ziigaat Odyssey, Kiwi Ears Canta (least favorite so far), Letshuoer DX4. Tea Pros are where it’s at for value/performance for me. Odyssey might be better value overall but its lack of stage/space makes me appreciate the MEST/Tea Pro more.

Anything JM-1 Tuned would be where I would look, they are generally mid bass heavy and darker on the treble side. As far as the list you have, the Simgot SuperMix4's are pretty bright so not likely what you are looking for. If you can find the Ziigaat Odyssey in your price range I would consider those as well. The Volume S for <$200 seems like a no brainer as that is like $100 less than MSRP. [https://graph.hangout.audio/iem/5128/?share=Odyssey,Volume\_S\_Low\_S1,Pure\_(Narrow),Explorer,S12\_Pro](https://graph.hangout.audio/iem/5128/?share=Odyssey,Volume_S_Low_S1,Pure_(Narrow),Explorer,S12_Pro) Looking at the chart you are probably sensitive to that 6-8k region which I usually PEQ down until it is tolerable if a set is too piercing for me. Sibiliance is an instant don't like in that region.

No points to disagree here just looking to understand more, I was under the impression that different implementations and housing did have some meaningful difference to things like slam/bleed for example. Personally, I don’t see that too much in FR graphs but it might just be me being inexperienced. The Odyssey, Tea Pro, SuperMix 4 sets are the most obvious examples I can think of. EQing all of them to similar bass/mid bass gets quite different results on similar songs. During critical listening I would be shocked if someone said those all that the same features/“quality” despite all of them having DD focused low ends.

Also SM4 owner, I broadly agree with your review. I found it lacking mid-bass, and has too much treble with occasional shout I tested your EQ, the result is okay (maybe the lower midrange is now too much, and it still is too sparkly in the treble but you said you enjoy SM4 treble). However, I did not like your direction. Basically you cut away too much, using too wide Q, when you could just tweak it with peak filters only to get the same result. See your result vs my tweaked version (I moved your EQ up 2dB to get a better normalization). There's technically nothing wrong with what you're doing as long as it works (the crossovers on SM4 doesn't seem to misbehave much), but it makes both visualization and A/B listen testing painful, as you have to keep re-adjusting the gain when doing both https://preview.redd.it/s1ur87oyvuse1.png?width=1887&format=png&auto=webp&s=a1148a48f4070bf5477baf3fc6ba3328ca298470

>As you can see, there's a difference in pre-amp between my EQ and yours. Yes, but then you cut the entire upper-mids and treble by more than 2dB, achieving the same FR as my tweaked version. I had to raise your entire EQ by 2dB to match against the original SM4, so effectively your pre-gain is 2dB more than it should be If you A/B test, it has to be at the same overall volume. Using your EQ, you cannot do this unless you change the pre-gain between tests, and this makes it one button changes much harder. This is why I changed the values in my tweaked version, which gives you the same result but makes A/B testing much easier as you can set the pre-gain once and only toggle the EQ on/off Edits: Formatting

Hey OP, I saw some interest in supermix 4, I have had those for a while and can share my thoughts: They're bright, very sparkly, way too much treble on more occasions than not. Good sub-bass rumble, but lacking in mid-bass so not much slam on drums. Mids are okay, female vocals are better but can be shouty depending on song, male vocals are okay but aren't lean at least to me. Instrument timbre is slightly off, esp hi-hats and acoustic guitar which feels quite metallic, probably due to the overt presence and treble region. But, this treble means SM4 is very technically capable, brings out a lot of detail (separation etc.), and lots of air in vocals. I haven't tried another set with more detail under 150$, so it still brings joy at times when I crave the treble detail, but forget listening to hours without fatigue I would stress you not trust online sound demos and sound comparisons, and instead try in-person before you buy, if you can. Unless you actually own one of the IEMs/headsets they're demoing (or you EQ exactly to it which is practically impossible due to treble differences), your ears won't perceive the sound the same as couplers or whatever recording device they're using, the experience is not valuable in my opinion

Late comment but hope you see this: I have the SM4 (and Artti T10 which is similar to F1 pro) and I don't agree with a lot of takes I'm seeing If you like 6xx, that's a warmish mid-focused tuning. None of the options above are really mid-focused. SM4 is light on mid-bass, and for me it's too sharp in the treble on some songs, it's a V-shaped tuning. The detail and resolution on SM4 is excellent for the price, so I still use it and like the sound when I crave that, esp for female vocals If you're looking for a good timbre mid-focused IEM, I would suggest looking into Kiwi Ears KE4 (people say Hexa for lower budget). That one truly is all about mids, for me the mid-bass was slightly too dominant but it seems I'm in the minority

I own a pair of each of the examples given (except Rays) and I personally prefer Explorer because it's easy to manage the volume without specific frequencies being too overwhelming (especially treble). I'd describe it as boring with a bass boost which was what I was specifically looking for when I started in the hobby. That being said, Supermix 4 is one of my choices for the more "fun" sound because the treble tends to be more tame than a lot of pairs with similar sound signatures. Hexa and EW300 are ones I very rarely reach for because of the treble. EW300 has more body to the mids than Hexa but I still prefer Hexa's deadpan sound for specific use cases.

**Introduction** Supermix 4 has been widely praised by reviewers as one of the best IEMs under $200, tuned to the popular Harman 2019 target. I have been using SM4 for about 6 months now, so consider this a long-term review. **Build, Comfort, Design and Accessories** SM4 comes with an adequate set of accessories. The cable is good quality but on the stiffer side. It includes three pairs of decent quality eartips. The supplied case is well-built but somewhat small. The IEM itself is made of resin with a metal faceplate, and being made of resin it allows for a comfortable fit. However, the faceplate scratches easily if not stored properly in the case. The understated design with gold accents on the faceplate gives it a sleek and elegant look. Also SM4 is properly vented with two vent holes, something uncommon in hybrid IEMs. This helps equalize pressure inside the ear, making it more comfortable for long listening sessions. **Bass** The bass leans heavily towards sub-bass, with enough mid-bass presence to add punch to the sound. While the quantity should satisfy most listeners, the quality leaves me wanting more. Bass decays quickly compared to most dynamic drivers, it hits hard and then disappears, unlike in typical DDs, where bass notes linger for sometime, providing a more satisfying meaty response. Simply put, SM4’s bass feels like it’s coming from a DD with BA-like characteristics. The bass also lacks texture and doesn't give that tactile response. Now, on the good side, the bass never sounded soft in impact. **Mid-range** I'm not a fan of Harman Target’s midrange presentation. It sounds both shouty and thin, whether for male or female vocals. The 200Hz bass tuck, combined with the elevation in the 3-5kHz range, makes it annoying to listen to. Since SM4 is tuned similarly to Harman Target, it exhibits all these traits. The midrange, handled by BAs, sounds very detailed, with the tuning pushing everything right into your face. Some might prefer this engaging presentation, as it makes the vocals exciting to listen to. But I prefer IEMs with a more laid-back midrange tuning, with a hint of warmth in the lower mids to add richness to vocals. SM4, however, is the complete opposite of my taste, tuned to sound cleaner and analytical in the midrange. **Treble** The treble is the only part of the tuning I liked. It’s impressive but didn’t give me that wow factor on first listen. There’s no sibilance or harshness that would make it an immediate disqualifier, but in some songs, the treble feels overly aggressive to my taste. This is further amplified by the midrange, which leans towards an analytical and shouty presentation. Now for the good part, this aggressiveness in the treble highlights all the nuances in songs, making everything sound detailed and crisp. **Presentation** This is where SM4 redeems itself from its tuning choices. Detail retrieval and resolution are a clear step up from budget IEMs, highlighting nuances in songs that might have gone unnoticed before. Instrumental separation is excellent for the price, nothing feels mushed together, even in complex tracks. While the staging is within the IEM realm, the imaging is impressive for the price, making it easy to pinpoint where instruments and vocals sit in the mix. However, despite these strengths, SM4’s tuning issues overshadow its technical performance, making it less enjoyable overall for me. The only way to make it truly enjoyable to listen to is by using EQ. **EQ** I've only used SM4 with EQ. I bought it knowing I'd have to EQ the heck out of it just to make it listenable for my tastes. I highly recommend everyone EQ their headphones. This EQ fixes all the tuning issues I mentioned, especially the midrange. With EQ, the midrange sounds natural and balanced for both male and female vocals. Treble is reduced by 3dB to make it much smoother to listen to. However, the bass quality still remains the same. *Check the last 2 slides for EQ* **Conclusion** While SM4 has impressive technical performance, its tuning requires significant EQ adjustments to meet my expectations. That said, I’d still recommend it, as it offers strong subjective qualities like detail retrieval and imaging for the price. For anyone upgrading from budget IEMs, this is one of the best options without emptying the wallet. As always, this review is my subjective take on SM4, everyone has their own preferences, so feel free to disagree.

>I’ve had mine about 6-7 months. The edges of my faceplates have definitely seen some wear so you’re doing a great job at keeping them pristine. The faceplate gets scratched easily. It mostly depends on how you store it in the case. I got mine scratched around the edge on the first day by not storing it properly. After that, I took better care of it. Another issue for me is the lack of a filter in the nozzle. >I use my SM4 everyday, playing around with ear tips and EQ. Without EQ, I agree with what you said about the SM4. I think if I had liked the Harman sound off the bat, I wouldn’t have experimented too much and in some ways, lessened my enjoyment of the hobby.  I bought it knowing I wouldn’t like the stock tuning since I’m not a fan of Harman. And yes, making EQ profiles are fun! The EQ I provided here is based on JM-1 but leans more neutral, with a focus on vocals.

Definitely IEMs are way better than headphones with similar price. I think the reason it's the drivers quality. A 50$ IEM driver will mostly be technically better than a 50$ gaming headset driver. Just make sure to check the quality of the soundstage and imaging (by reviews). Also a hibryd drivers (multi driver) IEM can be a game changer. I don't recommend a builted in mic just because an external one (even super cheap) will always sounds better. I love my Simgot SuperMix 4 for gaming, but I know they're not very cheap. I can suggest the Truthear Gate for that purpose or the cheaper Tangzu Wan Er

This is what I tell people about the SM4 - if you like the Harman target, this is a legit end-game level set. It matches Harman almost exactly, has wonderful detail, separation, and staging (especially considering the price), is comfortable, well-built, and easy to drive. Its detail and resolution blow the DUNU Davinci out of the water, at half the price. If you like Harman, this is a one-and-done set. It's THAT good. Are there better out there tuned to the same target? Sure. But you'll spend 3-4x the price. Problem is - many people don't like Harman.

had the supermix 4 for almost a year now, tea pro for a week now i really love the SM4 for the technicalities, agree with u/collapse-s's comment, by default they can get really piercing due to the Planar & PZT managing the trebles, but it's something you can ease with some EQ without degrading the audio quality (compared to other pairs you can easily EQ them) and you get a really clear and precise sound (blew my mind honestly) where they're lacking for my taste is audio stage for gaming, idk about the other but i find it hard to pinpoint enemies vertically, and enemies behind me feels in me somehow (really strange to describe...), really really hard to play competitively with them, i'm sometimes lost in the action cause of that the tea pro has been insane regarding that aspect, coming initially from a MMX300 headset which is a beast of audio soundstage for gaming, that's the closest I've ever heard so far with IEMs. pinpoint is really the term to use with them music-wise, i find the tea pro a bit less clear than the SM4, but that may be cause i'm used to the insane trebles of the SM4 (don't get me wrong, the sound is far from boxy and is really great) (best reference for gaming i heard: MMX300 headset; games i play: val, ow2, apex, dbd)

My SM4 suddenly died from a day to another and I haven't been able to get a replacement or repairment since it was a review sample. I liked it a lot. The Defiant tuned very close in terms of low-end but they have more bass punch, whereas the Simgot were a bit less dynamic in that regard. However, the SM4 were more detailed and sparkling up top and the imaging and soundstage were slightly better. I'd say go for the Supermix 4 if you can handle some brightness and if you have the budget. Instead, go for the Defiant if you want a less emphasized treble yet with slightly inferior technical performance, punchier/more tactile and more textured bass and if you want to save some money.

I mean if you really want to take it competitively, headphones always beat out the IEMs. The simgot supermix 4 are pretty similar to the EW300 with more treble (which is what footsteps have a lot of) and a pretty safe tuning. Not the greatest bass, but maybe some EQ and certain eartips would make up for that. I play a lot of fps games, cs2 and val included and did not enjoy the ew300 but really like the super mix 4. A lot of people also swear by the EM6L for shooters

While I agree the zetian wu the legend has bad ootb tuning, with an autoeq to the campfire astrolith, its actually insanely good like a poor man's astrolith. Very good clean thumpy lows and sparly highs decent mids, no distortion dogwalks the simgot supermix 4 i got before it. no planar timbre whatsover either after that autoEQ

The other two are moondrop rays and Simgot SuperMix4. The redditor who commented on the other sets was very much on point, EW300 is your safest bet from all of these, but you mean warm as in warm sound or Warm as in you want it slightly bassy? Because EW300 could count as "warm" in the sense that is slightly bassy, but the sound is somewhat balanced, not much notably colored by bass, which would be the warm sound. As for the others, Rays seem to be a repackage and maybe re tuning of the moondrop May, is fairly new but is a DSP iem, so it uses type-c, might be good, but is too early to say if is worth the price. As for the SM4, is a quite energetic and detailed set, but can feel a bur too intense in the treble for some, and specially the mid range, where vocals are, can feel a bit thin - lacking body -, is good if you known you like that energetic sound, but not the best for a person starting in the hobby even if it has allrounder capabilities too. And for the record, the Explorer is not reall muddy but quite bassy, so people that dont like that much bass often feel it like it gets on the way of the rest of the sound, treble is also not particularly boosted so it can feel relaxed but a bit less detailed too.

I'm not helping with this comment. With the disclaimer out of the way, I have both SM4 and EW300 DSP. For a while the EW300 was my go to for anything with a USB-C port, they're comfy enough and I have no complaints about the sound quality, plus they're dirt cheap. Right now they're with my fiancé and I think she won't give them back. SM4 is in my pocket/backpack basically all the time, I take it out several times per day while in a taxi or a supermarket so I don't have to listen the the fucking Christmas/Chinese New Year music. It's accompanied by KA13 because it neatly fits in the case that comes with the IEM. I find them VERY comfortable. If you can demo both sets somewhere and see what works for you, that's probably the best way to decide. Or just use Amazon, if you live somewhere with consumer rights, and return the one you don't like.

Yes, that could have been the case. I heard them at an audio event and compared to all the other earphones (even budget ones), they felt wierd. But I only spend a short time with them so there is that. I've found that soundstage and dynamics are very important for me and the Midbass-Uppermids level determines that for my ear anatomy. So even very cheap earphones like Wan'er and QKZ HBB sound good due to their soundstage. While Kefine Klean feels very one dimensional and lacks dynamics (contrary to what everyone else says). Olina SE, EA500LM and Supermix 4 are all great in these aspects (but they have their own issues).

I just got my supermix 4 and it's not bad. It has ear wings so it is more like custom fitted iems. It might not fit everyone's ears and it's a lil uncomfortable for me. The Em6l is also half the thickness of the supermix 4 and has a more universal fit. My Em6l nozzles came off but a drop of super glue fixed that. I enjoyed the soundstage and imaging on the supermix 4 more but the Em6l is 90-95% of the way there. For almost $50 less, the Em6l is a much safer option and better buy. I'm glad I have both tho. I love the supermix for music.

(Spoiler : the zero 2s were awesome ) Super mix 4 - perfectly neutral Green dragon - neutral, less dynamic range Black lightning- flat, no dynamic range , uncomfortable fit Zero2 - balanced, touch more silky smooth bass. I have 3 sets, Zero 2 - £25 BASN Mix-PD - £77 KZ AS10 pro £70. and, did have... Supermix 4 - £150 (sent back, didn't like them) I can't really say that either of them are better than the others.. The BASN are the ones I use the most as they have a balanced sound signature. I regularly listen to the Zero 2, but rarely AS10s. This subject is all about personal preference, so even though the more expensive ones have better build quality and cables ( the tripowin zonie cable I bought for the zero 2 is better than them all) it's hard to say if one sounds better. Bass driven track... I'll get the zero 2. Acoustic, vocal... I'll get the BASN. Classical, or jazz, or something without bass, but loads of upper detail.. AS 10 pro. The supermix 4 were not 6 times as good as the zero 2..to me they sounded worse, so price isn't a guarantee of quality, or personal fit.

I didn't like the way that bass was presented. It was too uncontrolled, and almost boomy. The high frequencies were also very sharp. The whole package was not impressive. I tried EQ but no luck. I have bluetooth buds that sound better.. Edifer stax s10, and even the creative Aurvana 2.. OK both pricey sets. But both have a very controlled low end with plenty of sub bass, and they have a well presented upper range, not at all sibilant or sharp. (the edifiers are planar) When I bought them, I was hoping for a step up the ladder from my BASN Mix-PD, but it wasn't the case. I prefer the BASN any day. I'm still after an upgrade, and am looking at the blessing 3, or maybe just get away from the IEMs and get a pair of Hifiman Sundara's I have lots of headphones, and so wanted a decent set of IEMs around the £150 to £250 price point, preferably with planar drivers, or a mix like the BASN/supermix If you want to EQ your supermix, use wavelet, and download a few supermix EQ profiles.. They did improve them a bit

My first impression, it was hard to get a good fit. the nozzles are short and narrow. The standard eartips are crap. I tried many eartips where I had to remove some from my ears with tweezers. Finally good seal with SpinFit W1 eartips which almost doubles the price if you have to buy them for a good sound. Sound quality, bass: quite punchy but not as fast as for example the Simgot Super Mix 4. The bass bleeds a bit in the mid range. The mids and highs are a bit more in the background than with my multi driver iems. I don't regret the purchase, nice to have in the collection. I've been in the iem hobby for a year and my endgame iem for now is the ThieAudio Hype 4 with a much better bass while the mids and highs remain upright. The ND-planet cannot be used without a DAC, no volume and bass at all then. I used the Fiio KA1 (usb) and BTR13 (bluetooth) no EQ used.

I had previously suggested that there is some difficulty with getting a proper sample for the SuperMix 4 due to the large amount of permutations of the IEM name using an algorithm. ie SuperMix, SM, SM4, mix4, etc However, other than that survey accuracy point... the Explorer is one of the better scaling IEMs and the best in that range. Many people like the ability to turn up their music and for a portion of listeners, the piezo of the SM4 becomes fatiguing especially at higher volumes. For other good volume scaling sets, the Odyssey is technically outside of that range and effectively double the price thus not part of the discussion.

The best all rounder under 200 would be between the simgot supermix 4 and the crinear daybreak. Check out the graphs of both and see what you prefer more. If you don't know how to read graphs : Supermix 4 : V shaped (treble and bass boosted), slightly thin sounding vocals due to recessed mids, less natural, stellar technical performance, amazing details and instrument seperation. TREBLE CAN GET SHARP AND HARMAN IS KNOWN TO BE JACK OF ALL TRADES MASTER OF NONE. Daybreak : Neutral with bass boost, very natural vocals, very good technical performance (slightly behind supermix 4 but 20 dollars more expensive), again good details and instrument seperation.

Hey, I don't recommend the Supermix 4 as the treble is too much for me (I get fatigue over time). SM4 sounds about right, but if it’s too bright and fatiguing for you, the Kiwi Ears KE4 might be worth a try. To my ears, the KE4 has harder-hitting bass, more forward vocals, and warmer and less spicy treble compared to the SM4, which I found fun and bright but fatiguing until I swapped out ear tips to SpinFit W1.

Thanks for these insights! I'm still trying to learn how changes to the frequency response grant certain perceived qualities. I found the SuperMix 4 too bright and fatiguing until I tamed it a bit with SpinFit W1s. (Otherwise, I could only listen to the Fall Out Boy discography for \~30 minutes. No such discomfort with my other IEMs.) Even then, I felt the SM4's mids (?) were too recessed/distant compared to the KE4's more forward/intimate presentation. That's when I became wary of Harman targets and IEMs said to be "very bright". Perhaps that means I'm a bit treble sensitive and prefer something closer to the JM-1/new meta target? The Braindance looks cool as hell but on paper it scares me. I actually have been interested in the Punch! I grew up enabling "bass boost" whenever I could on my Apple devices. I still do. (KE4 on HiBy R4 Eva with DRX10K Dynamics--bass boosted--and Sound Field plugins enabled.) I enjoy a bit of rumble and a lot of punch as long as it doesn't become... soupy? Though I am also curious about "more technical" sets, which is why I bought the Kiwi Ears Aether. To my ears, the Aether is "truly neutral" and quite detailed. So KE4 for fun and relaxed and Aether for fun and analytical. I've been mulling over the Tea Pro, Dusk, and Punch/basshead sets, but I'm worried diminishing returns will kick in hard coming from KE4 and Aether... Like the other poster said, perhaps experiencing an EST driver would be worth it?

Depends on the IEM. Some expensive IEMs sound like complete ass. Price doesn’t necessarily correlate with performance, you need to do research and also find out what kind of sound you like. I had a pair of Truthear Hexa and loved the sound. The fit was not great for me though. I decided to spend big bucks on a Softears Volume S because it seemed to have a similar sound to Hexa, and I am now set for life. Very comfortable for me. Much punchier bass, better imaging and technicalities, but it still maintains the great timber and sound signature of the Hexa with a bit more bass. A opposite example is Simgot supermix 4. At the time I was still using the Hexa. I tried a pair of Simgot supermix 4 at a store, and they sounded so much worse than my pair of cheaper Hexa. They are super hyped up so I was quite disappointed. Turns out I just don’t like the sound of in ear harman while many do. It’s all very subjective.

Don't overspend when gaming is your main purpose for the purchase. Gaming performance plateaus really quickly to the point where even most competitive people sitting on a stage will not use IEMs that expensive. Make sure they have good clarity and resolution. Imaging and soundstage are subjective but those two are more easily defined in reviews. Simgot SM4 is the highest I would recommend you go here, to be honest though there's plenty of sub $50 options that should do the trick as well.

The signature KZ sound does NOT work for the kind of music I like listening to. Just sounds like someone keeps shattering glass inside of my ear canal... Just from a quick scroll I can already tell the comments are filled with folks who have similar issues with Simgot as well which I think is fair. While I consider them better technical performers, a lot of the tuning has some similarly sharp and spicy aspects to it that plenty of people might really enjoy but that some others will just find unbearable. It's the number one thing I was never quite able to get used to in any IEM...

Depends if you’re sensitive to treble and don’t mind a metallic tinny tinge to the sound. They aren’t bad IEMS but as mentioned they’re quite thin sounding which for me doesn’t work well with gaming because although they’re quite clear sounding (which is good obvs) they also don’t have that all encompassing cinematic vibe that works so well with games, movies and things of that nature far too lean and fatiguing which during a long gaming session quickly becomes grating in my experience.

In my opinion probably the Tea Pros for all rounders tbh as they’re more balanced, the Dunus are a touch warmer/thicker and the Martilos are emphasised as a Basshead set so have more sub bass but still do everything else well, P7 is definitely a good option but can get a touch spicy on the treble so not really a loud listening set and the supermix is well regarded but I tend to steer clear of Simgot because their tunings don’t tend to agree with me lmao. For orchestral music you’d probably want something brighter, detailed and more airy and I do know there’s some interesting options that can make things sound almost enveloping and ethereal but I couldn’t give you a recommendation for that genre specifically because I tend to lean more towards darker sets and It’s not something I’ve listened to.

I've had them for 3 days. I first bought the Simgot Supermix 4, which I returned the next day. Everything sounded very artificial, I didn't like the tone at all, the notes lacked weight and it was too bright. I read that it could be a problem with the power supply but I tried them on a Fiio K5 Pro Ess and on a Kiwi Ears Allegro Mini dac dongle and the result was equally disappointing in both cases. That's why I ordered these Odyssey and the truth is that I've been very impressed with the difference. They're exciting without losing that natural tone that I love. The sound stage, to me personally, seemed very good and the instrumental separation and the image were a delight, I agree with you that it's the best thing about the headset. I also have other headphones like the Sennheiser HD650 and Technics Az100 (for wireless they are amazing), but the Odyssey, although not as natural as the Senns, are more fun without losing as much naturalness and offering a stage and image that is really surprising for an IEM. They cost me €199 and taking into account that the Supermix 4 cost me €174, I think it is a very good quality-price ratio.

At the top of your budget, the em6l gets recommended a lot. I tried it and it performed pretty great. I use the SM4 now, but that's mostly because I was using them for music and wanted more bass. Otherwise, tripowin vivance, Crinacle Zero red/blues all get recommended quite often for gaming. I used the reds for a bit and they worked well, they were just uncomfortable for me since I have smaller ear canals and wasn't aware of tip rolling until after I returned them.

I own some of those $1200 IEMs, and I use none of them for gaming. Many of them make poor gaming sets, with a few exceptions. The IEMs I have used most often are the Simgot EM6L, Supermix 4, Crinicle Zero Blue/Blue 2, Thieaudio Hype 4, Xenns Tea and Top Pro, Meze Alba, and Letshuoer S08 & S12 Anniversary. The one I recommend most is the EM6L. It has consistently been my go-to for competitive gaming most of the time. Coincidentally, it's one of the cheapest sets in my rotation. Unfortunately, recency bias often often plays a major role in what is recommended in the community, which is why you don't see it as often in these types of recommendation threads, but a good tuning remains good forever -- which means many budget sets may be getting more attention recently, but they haven't necessarily dethroned the EM6L. The most critical areas of the frequency range for gaming is the upper mids and treble. The EM6L excels in these areas, offering great detail and clarity, with enough bass extension and emphasis to round out the tuning, but without losing detail in the mids. Imaging and soundstage is solid for an IEM, and they're comfortable enough for long periods of time, with the exception that the nozzle can be challenging for users with smaller ear canals. The other sets I often fall back on for immersive/single-player gaming is the Letshuoer S08. Up from there, the Hype 4; both are warm and fun, with the Hype 4 providing stronger bass performance, albeit typical Thieaudio "rounded" bass, and not as incisive as the S08's faster, more immediate planar slam. On the higher-priced midfi side, as mentioned above, the Hype 4 is one of my go-tos for immersive games, and the Top Pro is my competitive set of choice. It is like the Tea Pro, but with more controlled lower frequencies, and better detail and clarity. The Tea Pro is often recommended for gaming, the Top Pro improves on that tuning. It doesn't quite hit Volur-levels of "holographic" soundstage and imaging, but it is an exceptional set for its price. TL;DR: do not spend more than $500-$600 on a gaming IEM, and to be honest I wouldn't even recommend spending that much. I have dozens of IEMs in my collection, and my favorite gaming sets are on the budget side. Do I still use the Top Pro and Hype 4? Yes, but not as often as the EM6L and S08, and you could get by using the former for every use case -- I just like the S08 enough that I enjoy weaving it into my day-to-day as much as possible.

Supermix 4 is a great IEM for casual listening, if you enjoy its tuning. EM6L is much more upper mid and treble forward, the two most import areas of the frequency range for gaming cues.

I would not recommend any as first buy. I would start with Cadenza or a new KZ because super cheap disposable trash. But sure, you have to know what to expect: KE4 has a new style tuning, pretty good, but there are better options. Nova is an absolute beast, some find it tinny sounding, super EQ-able and you can turn it 99% into a Hype 4 easily - but is huge - do you have large ear holes? SM4 is 0.5% better than Nova stock, but is not as EQ-able, is source dependent, and some may find it a bit too spicy. S12 Pro is nice all rounder, planar, EQ-able, no complaints from me - but I prefer the Nova over it. Explorer is different, so you may not be able to appreciate it if you start with this one - or it's the best one for you, who knows? In conclusion, if you EQ and have loose holes, Nova.

I know there's a quite a few people who have been waiting for me to finally make this post. I apologize for the delay, I was still waiting for an iem to be delivered. A little background: I've been an fps gamer all my life. I used to play cod semi-profressionally and participated in both online and LAN tournaments for money. The main fps games I play today are apex, cod and siege. Ever since I discovered the audiophile world with studio headphones I was amazed how much better headphones sounded compared to gaming headsets. Fast forward to present day and I am now into IEMs and discovering which ones are the best for gaming. As a disclaimer my thoughts and opinions are my own. I understand there are YouTubers such as Fresh Reviews, Ryan Ho, and Gadgetry Tech that may or may not agree with my takes. So please take my thoughts and opinions with a grain of salt as I am just a chill guy who likes to game competitively. The way I determine if an iem (or headphone) is good for gaming is by 3 main categories: soundstage, imaging, and sound separation. A good and accurate soundstage has good width (x), height (y), and depth (z). Imaging, or stereo imaging, is the spacial perception and ability to perceive the precise placement of sounds. Essentially directional audio. I.e left, right, center, back, top left, etc. Sound separation in a iem or headphone is the ability to pick up different sounds at once without it overlapping each other. So the ability to hear explosions go off, gun shots, gadgets, footsteps, etc without distorting the other sounds. With that being said here's the list of iems that I've tried each with a short review and a rating out of 5 for gaming (3 is usable, anything less is not): CCZ BC01 Pro (1) - way too bassy, bad vertical directional audio. Better options CCZ BC04 Pro (2) - same issue as the BC01 but a much more tolerable bass. Better options Moondrop Chu 2 (1.5) - sound is okay, soundstage felt narrow to me. Imaging was okay. Sound separation was below average. Premium feel and build but I didn't like how heavy they were on my ears. Better options Truthear Gate (2) - sound great but not good for gaming. Narrow soundstage, imaging is okay, below average sound separation. Better options Truthear Zero Red (?) - literally couldn't fit in my ears properly without severe pain. So I couldn't test the IEM and returned it. Will be testing the zero 2 tho Truthear Hexa (4) - comfort is not that good, better than the zero reds tho, soundstage and imaging is okay, sound separation is decent. Also not a fan of how they sound tbh. Too neutral for me Tripowin Vivaci (3) - nearly identical to the zeros 2 in technical performance but I like the zero 2 more in terms of overall sound. And for $5 more you can get the 7Hz G1 which is better than both 7Hz Zero (2.5) - a bit too bright, zero 2 is better 7Hz Zero 2 (3) - average soundstage, decent imaging, below average sound separation. Best $20 iem imo, better options as you continue to go up in price 7Hz G1 (4.5) - a Klean but cheaper with a more fun v-shaped sound signature, get this if you're on a budget 7Hz Sonus (4.5) - the most underrated iem for gaming, great imaging and great soundstage but average sound separation. EW300 is a bit better cuz it has better sound separation Kiwi Ears Canta (3.5) - a bit too bright for most people, good imaging, okay soundstage, below average sound separation Kiwi Ears Quartet (4) - best soundstage imo, super comfy fit, imaging is okay and sound separation is average Kefine Klean (4.5) - a better Delci, better sound separation and arguably better sound signature imo Kefine Delci (4) - good soundstage and imaging, slightly above average sound separation Simgot EW300 (4.5) - nearly endgame but still needs better sound separation. Simgot EM6L (5) - endgame, great soundstage, great imaging, great sound separation. Can't recommend it due to it's nozzle QC issues. Otherwise I probably wouldn't use any other IEM for gaming but this Simgot Supermix 4 (3.5) - not endgame. Might get some hate for this but I was really not impressed by this iem for gaming. It had a narrow soundstage and okay imaging, good sound separation tho. EM6L is way better Other IEMs I am planning to review: ND Planet, Tangzu Waner 2, KZ EDC Pro, Truthear Zero 2 Blue, and Kiwi Ears Airoso Note - in the end I recommend the 7Hz G1, 7Hz Sonus and EW300. The DT 900 Pro X and 770 Pro X are my reference headphones for directional audio for competitive fps games. Those headphones essentially make me feel like I have wall hacks and the iems perform 85-90% as good. The best was definitely the EM6L where I felt nearly no difference in performance with my headphones but I can't recommend it because of the nozzle QC issue. It is an easy fix by super gluing it back on but that shouldn't even happen for an iem worth $110 in the first place. With that being said I will still review iems (and headphones) above and below the respective prices but I feel that you will be perfectly happy with the performance of the iems I recommended. Side Note: I'm currently in the process of building a website with the best gaming peripheral recommendations which includes not only iems but headphones, keyboards, mice, monitors, even pro controllers and more. Hope you all have a blessed day and find this helpful in your purchasing decision!

Was in the same boat as you a year ago. Also nova pro wireless user. I ended up buying the em6l after seeing gadgetry recommend. And they’re pretty gnarly. And adding eq with sonar makes them even better for sure, and sometimes I actually like the flat signal better. The issue I have with the em6l is that ear tips constantly came off. The nozzle doesn’t have a lip to hold them on. And then nozzle screen came off along with the ear tip once. I had to get a left replacement in full. Warranty covers them. Easy experience IMO. Took about 3 weeks because they send em from overseas. However. While the em6l is pretty great, I’ve since moved to the supermix 4. I haven’t really looked back since. Primarily I’m an apex enjoyer. Valorant. Warzone. Most fps. Do alot of music production (metal stuff). They do the job. I use the gadgetrytech apex super mix eq and the warzone eq for each game respectively. Otherwise. I keep the flat signal. Their tuning is legit. And also. I run them out of soundblasterx g6. Stereo no processing. The dac provides a heavy kick. And they have audio profiles that are pretty solid. Shoot me a message if ya need anything!

I've listened to SM4, P5, and Explorer. The SM4 has good details but shitty bass. The explorer has thick warm sound, really good bass quality, but sounds like it lack details (due to the tuning), if you eq it, it has really good details. P5 is the most balanced in terms of bass and details. Also where can you get the explorer for 87 usd

Dunu Davinci for me. It's the most immersive for me so far. Sounds like intruments are actually placed in 3d space. Can also listen at high volumes without it being sibilant. I also had Aful P5, P7, magicone, explorer, SM4, Deuce, Delci. Really like the rumble of the Deuce too. Have a lot of aful for their fit. Others feel "flat" to me. Like they do have some height to them but for very specific moments in some tracks only.

For gaming it is better to have multi-driver iem's. I believe supermix 4 will give you more depth, more 3d sound, and planar will give you more coherent and still detailed sound like single dynamic driver but more "flat". That's my own observations on planars vs multi-driver iem's.

Thats a pretty big price difference between the EW300 and Supermix 4. While I do love the SM4, I think its only worth if your budget comfortably fits the SM4. Yes for me the SM4 was just straight up better but was it worth 2x the price of the EW300? Depends on you. I think for value, the EW300 is insane and one of the best. You could also look at the EA500LM if you like a slightly brighter tone or DUNU Kima 2 if you listen to very vocal songs. I still think Moondrop Kato on sale for like $110-130 is a great buy too.

You’re looking at warm leaning v shape, without the mid range too scooped out (to allow for vocals to be balanced). The SIMGOT EA500LM is a great example of that. Others with similar profile: - Aful Explorer - Simgot Supermix 4 - Kefine Delci AE There are a few iems highly reviewed/rated around $50-70 (Kefine Klean, Tangzu Fudu, Inawaken Dawn) but if your budget wants to spend more closer to $100-150 then there aren’t as many without going to the $200-300-ish range (Kiwi Ears Quintet, Mangird Tea Pro’s etc)

IF you asked this question a week ago i would of said the IE200, they are great for gaming and i was comparing them too Truth hear blues, and EM6L which are all great for gaming. Just picked up the Linsoul SuperMix4 and they are absolutely fantastic iems, no issues at all and i can find fault with all the others i listed above - iem falls out easily EM6L or ear tip too big Truthhear, housing scraping the ear IE200 using all different tips/cables and then i seen someone mention that the SuperMix4 are a way better version of the EM6L for a little more money, and if you was thinking of buying the EM6L then get the SuperMix4. Well i did and everything is great - audio clarity clear, comfort , cable length/ strength perfect. Honestly i could of saved myself 400dollars if i just got the SuperMix4 first.

I own the Supermix 4s, this was one of my comments on another post, so I'll paste it here. Hope it helps. I have the SM4, let me break it down for you. They have a great sub-bass extension, but overall are a bright set of iems. That, paired with the fact that they sound incredibly clean, can mean that they start to sound fatiguing after a while, and they definitely seem to lack a bit of musicality and emotion in music. They're a more vocal forward IEM, although due to the nature of Harman tuning mids and vocals can sound slightly thin and lacking weight. I would say that the resolution and technicalities are probably one of, if not the best in the price range. If you're looking for more mid-bass with a warmer, darker character overall these may not be the set for you. If you value sub-bass more and don't mind the much brighter sound, these may be for you. Clarity, as I've said, is really good on these iems.

Bit late to the party but just wanted to add my experience if anyone comes across this helpful tier list. The Simgot em6l vs the Simgot Supermix 4. I had to give the Simgot em6l a try based on your rating and comments. I enjoyed them out of the box leaning towards favoring female vocals. Gaming wise they are phenomenal, just plug and play no EQ needed at all. Now the cons, only tips that would give me a good seal are Comply T-500. Dunu s&s & SpinFit CP145 did not work as I could not get them deep enough for a good seal. I was also concerned over the longevity of the em6l as the known metal barrel coming off. As I forced to run foam tips I could see this happening pretty darn fast. I bought the Supermix 4 and agree with you. The tuning of the em6l out of the box is better for both music and gaming. However, EQ'ing the SM4 really brought them to life. Male vocals now how more depth and weight, the bass can be there if I want it. Gaming its the same story, out of the box I would not rate the SM4 anywhere near the em6l. A bit of EQ'ing and I now have my perfect EFT profile. 100% the fit and comfort & quality of the SM4 is worth the extra for me. Perfect seal with SpinFit CP145 avoiding the tedious at times foam tips. So to sum up, if you want a IEM that you do not want to EQ for both gaming and music at the £100 price mark the em6l is the definite winner. I got my Supermix 4 at only £20 extra. It you do not mind a bit of EQ'ing and would like a bit more bass when needed and superior fit and build quality the SM4 is for you.

More expensive IEMs have multiple drivers of different types having different characteristics. This translates into better soundstaging, technicalities, imaging, etc. For example with Chu when I increase the volume they start distorting sounds especially high frequencies but with Simgot 4 that does not happen.

Even though the sm4 graph shows alot of sub bass the dip in the mid bass makes it sound faint. The lower midrange pretty important if you want more like "presence" and "weight" to the vocals/instruments. I always felt like sm4 was close to great but its held back by the pzt implementation. Sometimes you get a strong sting of it and it can be good/bad depending on song quality. It can get very fatiguing if you're not used to pzt/planar zing in the higher regions. I think if you like the single dd sound and want to refine it get the fd15. Its a vast improvement over salnotes zero. It sounds more tighter and defined/punchy in the bass. Vocals sounds extremely vivid and musical. The treble is my favorite part of it because it sound airy and sparkly yet non harsh. I would of recommended original moondrop kato (if you can find it 2nd hand or used market) but It might lack some of that treble energy from salnotes zero in exchange for better weight and mid clarity.

For me, the airoso is just more “versatile” where everything you throw at it, it sounds great. Honestly couldn’t put them down when I first started using them. Probably the most comfortable IEMs to wear for an extended period of time. The sm4 might beat the airoso on soundstage and details; so if you want to do more critical/analytical listening the sm4 is a better pick. Other than that (especially for a more “musical” approach and the better bass response) the airoso wins it for me

The S12 pro is probably the “safer” bet in that case. The SM4 is fantastic but there COULD be too much treble if you’re not used to it. The Nova is wonderful but maybe a bit more “niche” and less of an allrounder. The Explorer are super enjoyable but a bit warmer, so if you’re trying to stay a bit more neutral and not have to much emphasis on anything the S12 pro is a great choice. And in case it would be necessary for you to change the sound because it is not 100% to your liking, you can EQ the S12 Pro quite easily.

The sm4 is pretty forward, but because it is pretty harmon its has quite a bit of bass as well. The p8 is more neutral so the vocals are not as forward and the bass is not as prominent, it may seem bright for some but thats what makes it so detailed. The p8 mids are more in the mix because it is neutral. It just depends on preference really. I honestly think the sm4 for the price especially if it's on sale is one of the best value iems. I like it a little more than the Nova, even the Chopin... But I am kinda a Harman guy even if I don't like to admit it sometimes. Other iems I really like that I own are the Top, Hype 4, Thieaudio Origin, Em 10, Deuce, DaVinci. Personally I think the Supermix 4 is over-rated. It has 2 fatal flaws in my opinion (went through 2 sets and gave up). The first flaw is its super slow attack on bass notes. Bass notes are almost slurred into. The second is distinct lack of dynamic range. Listening to the Rain Song by Zeppelin at about the 6:02 mark and Satyam Shivam Sundaram by Thievery Corporation at about the 2:52 mark distinctly show that lack of dynamic range. The Letshuoer S12 PRO is a good option in this price range, but does have tiny bit of that planar metallic sound now and then, but no fatal flaws!

I was hopeful on the supermix4 with all the hype it got, however after trying 2 of them (sent the first back thinking maybe it was defective) I ended up sending both back as I think they have a couple of major flaws. Bass attack and decay are slow/slurred and it has a pretty compressed dynamic range. Next one on my list to check out is the Aful Explorer, a lot of likes here.

I currently have MP145, SM4, Truthear Blue, TRN Tiger, and a few more planars. It powers them all without a problem. I am also using these to give the cable some extra protection. https://preview.redd.it/zmkb3ye8kqoe1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=1a9274a065472b007d86e595a5276163571042fc

They are better and they are also tuningwise different. SM4 is a true Harman tuning.

I love the Explorer because the bass is just right(I love bass) and the treble is slightly recessed (exactly how I like it). If you wanted to save some cash and still value a great sound signature, the Castor pro bass edition with the 4 switches are AWESOME!!! Supermix 4 is the best all-arounder of the iems i mentioned. Great for all genres

Tbh cheapest one and the first one I got was tanchjim ola bass, driver died in 1 months, might be qc, then goes to moondrop lan and moondrop may, like may a lot but I dropped may by accident (too comfy in my ears and forgot about using it on my PC) eventually looks around in YouTube. Then goes with kiwi ears ke4 kinda regret after having the later few iem. Then watched some reviews and bought supermix4 ,like it but the shell fell out, glue issue.Decided to go for semi end game iem and buyed moondrop meteor and ziigaat Luna loving both but would still buy may if I didn't buy the end games then I have.

r/iems • I'm an IEMs absolute noob, and I wanted to give them a try. What was your first IEMs? Do you regret it? What would you get as a first cheap one if you could do it again? ->

Whatever you pick between those you're good, but keep in mind that Hexa is neutral-ish tuned so it has less fun factor than others. I would pick either simgot supermix 4 or aria 2, mayber ea500lm

Warmth is opposite of clarity. I dont like explorer, i would probably pick supermix4

Hexa if you want neutral sound but i would go for supermix4, it has very good FR and its suitable for everyday listening and its more fun

I had Explorer and i really dont like it, mostly because its not a real laid back but fake (it has diffuse field treble). Nova is overpriced and S12 og is imo better deal than Pro version. I would go with SM4 or even better Kiwi Ears Quintet

Honestly for an entry level iem just save up some more for the supermix 4, skip the timeless soundstage is so narrow. Then the next upgrade with honestly be either the Variations or Xenns Top. Final endgame will be the Thieaudio big boys (Monarch, Prestige, Origin). Alternatives would be Elysian endgame range iems too.

I second this supermix is great for gaming but also everything else. Well worth the jump from em6l.

I agree, Supermix is underrated, and has excellent stage width, depth and layering, well above its price point. The treble is also excellent on SM4. I prefer slightly more narrow bore tips for Supermix to help the bass sound fuller.

Yeah me too, I have some very expensive sets, like the IE600, and I prefer the EW300 over the IE600... I still prefer my Ziigaat Odyssey, or my Mangird Xenns Top, but damn the Simgot is indeed very very good for the asked price

It’s weird isn’t it. I got the EW300s a few weeks ago and I immediately wanted to upgrade and read through a ton of posts here.  I think it’s because years and years ago I had the original wired apple earbuds, then I got M-Audio IE10s and was blown away by the clarity. Then I got shure se215s, then I got into KZ buds like a decade ago, then shure 425s and finally AirPods Pro. I’ve had those for like 6 years or whatever and when I got the simgots recently I remembered just how much detail music could have. And the fact that they are less than a third of what my shures cost made me think well if $80 gets me this good of sound, what does $300 get me??  I love the imaging and separation of the EW300s and I really want even more
