Worth is subjective to you and how much you make and where you are willing to spend, I started with ZS10s went to Aretes, quickly jumped up to hype 4s from there and loved every jump, I just now recently got my endgame pair being monarch mk4s and to me they were worth it, but for others I would likely recommend that $400 range being a good stopping point because of diminishing returns, yes my MM4s sound incredible but $750 more incredible than hype 4s? Probably not for most. I want the most I can get out of this hobby/experience and I also love being able to share that with others as most people will never experience true hifi
Get a cheaper mic arm and remove the dac, you can get better IEMs. I have the Hexas and the Hexas are good for their price for sure, but at double the price you can get a whole list of great IEMs around the 160 range. A better iem does far more difference for audio quality than any dac would. From my subjective experience, IEMs really do go up linearly in quality from budget to mid-fi. I went from the Hexas to the 300-400 dollar Thieaudio hype 4s and I can say in my opinion it is at least 4 times better in enjoyment for me. Same goes for 80 to 160. I think the super mix 4 is like almost 2 times better than the Hexas, this is all subjective of course. Jays Audio just made a great video with a comprehensive list of competitive Iems at that range. As someone else said, get an apple dongle instead or just plug it into your PC. Also I recommend a cheaper mic such as the solocast if you want to squeeze out more for 10 dollars and get better iems. If you use your onboard headphone jack on your PC, a 20 dollar arm (or no arm at all to save even more), and a 40 dollar mic, you are spending 40 or 60 dollars and leave about 190 to 210 for a great IEM. Here is the video that I mentioned: https://youtu.be/dapR2KQDXhQ?si=PyQILHFZPE36J2z1 In the description of the video he also leaves a genre guide and a ranking list of all the IEMs he listened to and their prices, you can even find many of them on AliExpress for even cheaper sometimes if you are willing to wait for the shipping. Edit: For gaming I prefer a tuning with clear treble since you will hear more detail and things will seem more spacious
I have the XENNS Mangird Tea PRO and I love them ! I had the Hype4s before and the tea pro is better . But my buddy said the ones I mentioned are great and he can hear his opponent scratch their ass around the corner lol
I went with the original Hype 4 after reading your review. My ears are very sensitive to treble. And I also value having bass. It seems that Hype 4 mk2 would be a bad choice for me. Just sucks that the og Hype 4 only comes with the 3.5mm cable, unlike the mk2's new 3.5/4.4mm interchangeable cable
Not sure i agree with this. My Hifiman xs and HD650s are preferable to my Dunu Davinchi and Hype 4s for me. I like IEMs but they are not better, different sure.
I would liken my thieaudio Hype 4 to the Edition XS in value and sound. I think you could get better sound but not sure at what price. The hype 4s are comfortable but I prefer headphones for long listening sessions. The XS are super comfy after modding.
Hype 4s are great and plenty of bass
you're looking at them. same colorway too. I go back and forth between the hype 4s and the EA1000s
Ive demo’d the mega5est before in Japan. It’s a fantastic all rounder, there’s no genres it performs poorly in. But as others have said, it lacks any specific tuning oddities to be especially exciting to listen to. I own a SA6 mkII. It is well tuned for female vocals and most genres where you aren’t looking for bass impact and slam. The lack of a dynamic driver makes the more anemic BA bass noticeable. Other than that however, it is a well tuned iem. I have tried someone’s pair of meteors a while back, so these impressions are a little more fuzzy. I wasn’t too happy about how there was no venting in the iem. As a result, the isolation was excellent, but the pressure feeling in the ear was unpleasant enough for me to dismiss owning a pair altogether. I will say however that I probably liked its tuning more than the SA6mkIIs. It has a U shaped tuning with more emphasis on the bass and treble, which can make it more engaging to listen to. As a result, this one has more coloured tuning compared to the previous 2 iems. I prefer iems with this type of tuning, as my favourite pair is the 64audio u4s. However, it is less natural sounding than the others due to this. To be honest, I personally would just get a pair of Hype4s. I find them more interesting to listen to, and they have enough technical performance to satisfy most people. However, if you want something that sounds mostly neutral and safe, the mega5ests are good. You might want to include what kinds of music you listen to, and what are you looking for in an iem when asking for a recommendation
I was almost tempted on a "I don't really need to cross grade - my Hype 4s sound great" order of some Oddysey 2's.... but might wait for some reviews of these...
Sounds good - but maybe not worthy of getting along side of the Hype 4 I already have (I bounce between them, my Moondrop Variations - which have less bass, so maybe similar to Tea Pro, and the Hiby Crystal 6's which all sound great.)
wiw i had same experience with the 2 7hz timeless 2 i bought - one has very sharp sizzling treble and planar timber but the second one sounds more like a dynamic driver with the speed of a planar i also had wn hype 4 that has too smooth treble lacking extension
