Tri i3 mk3 for female vocals
I have two sets on my desk: XENNS Tea Pro TRI I3 MK3 The Tea Pro is my main gaming set, because of the really good imaging and beautiful bass texture for the bass heavy genres I tend to listen to while gaming I love the tuning on the Tea Pros, though female vocals are a bit recessed if I want to listen to vocal heavy songs. I've made the big shells fit in my ears really well, but I do still get pressure points from the wings in my outer ear Thats what the TRI I3 MK3 is for. Its my going-out set because of the beautiful purple shells that I paired with a purple cable, but I have it similarly EQed to my Tea Pro, almost same bass amount, but more forward vocals. So if the Tea Pro ever give me pressure points or I want more vocals I switch to those and they are more comfortable since the wings are not as defined. Downside of the TRI I3 MK3 is that the wings are not as big, so if I wear them for too long (8+ hours) they start sliding out. Thats when I switch back to the Tea Pros. I also have 2 other sets in my rotation, both on bluetooth earhooks Aful Explorer on the TRN BT20 Pro Kiwiears Cadenza on the TRN BT30 Pro The Explorers are connected to my phone and I use them for sleeping or when I want to go out without cables. The Cadenza are connected to my Tablet for watching Youtube/movies/anime while making/eating food. I can also connect them to my PC in case I dont want to deal with cables at all I'm planning to switch out my bluetooth sets for iems with metal shells at some point since they dont get as oily as resin shells do and I prefer that
Its tricky. I would tend to agree sub 500 pounds. Love the sennheiser ie300 single DD. Id pick this over any hybrid below 500. However tri i3 MK3 is a tribrid with a lovely timbre (I listen to classical). Also the Katori Audio Vampire is a single BA without any ba timbre, but it achieves this I suspect at the expense of frequency extension - warm lush mids with rolled of treble.
The i3 is better, and stands out from most tribrids because it uses a real 10mm full planar for the highs. The "planars" you see advertised in most modern hybrids are "micro-planars" which are in fact SPD-like packages that are meant to be drop-in alternatives to BAs. They are only called planars for marketing and because they sound somewhat like a planar, but they are different. IMO tribrids with proper full planars sound better but are usually very expensive and not common. TRI i3 mk3 is the one cheap model I know of. The only downside is don't go in seeing that beryllium DD and expect big slam bass like the OH10 or something from Xenns. It is tuned for snappy but not powerful neutral bass. It has an audiophile tuning that favors mids and highs. If you can get behind that they have the best highs imo of anything until hybrids with ESTs. https://preview.redd.it/5unfc7sebvif1.png?width=2560&format=png&auto=webp&s=1b94f578c0594d06c206c60ff31975a30f76f7a7
This. A sleeper since this IEM came out over a year ago but I like it better than Odyssey and Tea Pro. There are many special things about this IEM, the only downside is the size. If you can't handle large shells and large nozzles you're gonna have to at least tip roll a bunch. For me with very small TWS tips that were a bitch to get on they feel very comfortable and the seal is great. Another great alternative is Volume S. Both have this feeling of being "audiophile basshead", meaning they have basshead driver qualities but more restrained tuning that has more mid-bass vs lots of modern sets which focus on sub-bass, and the level is overall lower but the bassy quality is still there.
Hybrid: ISN H60. 1DD: Tanchjim Origin. All-BA: FiiO FA7s I haven't used enough Tribrids and Planars to say for sure. Right now TRI i3 mk3 and Tangzu Wu Zetian. I have plenty more sets but these are my favorites if put to it.
I feel like you have to push to at least $200 for something your can quit on. At $150 you're still looking at entry hybrids which have weak points. You can get a hell of a good 1DD for $150 though and there are more options than ever now. Of the ones you're looking at, MP145 pro is the best pick imo. CK2V is a bit too spicy up top, S12 ultra is a bit too smoothed compared to previous S12 models. If I had to choose a single $150 IEM it would be a 1DD like the FD15 or the Woodnote, or something similar. For a hybrid I would push the price a bit and get the TRI i3 mk3 and EQ it, or do the same with something like Adonis New or BQEYZ Frost. Or get an Orchestra Lite on sale. Dunu 142 could be good too but I haven't tried it. Many $150 hybrids aren't going to sound like much of a step up from the Defiant is the issue.
Ziigaat Odyssey if you want something neutral with bass boost (the bass really kick in ngl I love that), Performace 5 if you want warm tuning, Kbear Tri I3 Mark 3 if you want something bright but not harsh smooth and great for vocal.
Moondrop concerto without doubt, great tuning. Also tri i3 mk3 good underrated iem, sadly mine broke.
The only thing I could say is it's better if you could try it because most of the people who say the B3 is bright haven't even used it and suggest what they like, so it could be different for you. A good cheaper alternative could also be the Tri I3 MK3, since it has tamer treble, but without the overboosted bass shelf of other sets.

Seeing reactions around Meteor for being tamed to less quantity, I sort of can imagine what pass through manufacturer's mind... Anyway, It is a clear patter to me, I love my Tri I3 MK3, but street noise kills it, it is wonderful at night, in total silence, though.
