I’ve had seat time with both the Ziigaat x [Hangout.Audio](http://Hangout.Audio) Odyssey 2 and the CrinEar Daybreak. They’re cut from the same hybrid-IEM cloth, but tuned with different priorities. Odyssey 2 leans more ‘reference monitor’: a bio-cellulose DD gives it a clean, punchy but well-controlled low end, the Knowles BAs handle mids with clarity, and the treble is crisp without being etched. It’s a neutral-ish, slightly technical listen, great for dissecting mixes or high-res sources. Build feels premium too. Daybreak, on the other hand, is a smoother, more relaxed hybrid. Those micro-planar tweeters do extend the top end, but the overall tonality is more balanced and forgiving. It’s less about ‘wow’ detail and more about an easygoing, musical presentation. Accessories and fit are decent, but a notch less posh than the Odyssey kit. So is the price jump worth it? If you’re chasing resolution, imaging and a neutral reference signature, Odyssey 2 justifies the extra cash. If you prefer a laid-back, all-day listen with plenty of air but not razor-sharp treble, Daybreak hits the sweet spot without breaking the bank.
ok, im just going to write everything I know down, take what you want from it. there are really 3 levels of iems at this point 20~$ 7hz zero 2's 80~$ TRUTHEAR Pure and 170$ crinear daybreak sound wise, 20$ is if you have an extreme budget, replaceable cable and damn good tuning makes the zero2 the best low budget the pure is the replacement for the hexa, it was effectively a baby blessing 2, and the fact its comparable at all to a 320$ iem that was considered an iem that destroyed the high end speaks volumes on how good they are and the daybreak is coming off the back of moondrop dusks, which are ok if you plug them into anything with a 3.5 and no eq, but the moment you eq them you need to look above the 1500$ mark to have anything that's better, the only black mark on the dusk was the need for the dps cable if you couldn't eq it through other means (I use a quilidex that regulates volume and eq across everything I attach it to) this saw the hype 4 and other iems in this price range more or less having a leg up at non eq quality, daybreak more or less takes the best of the dusk, gets the tuning to work without a dsp/eq and drops the price in half. each one of these is a step up in quality that makes the lower end one seem like crap. each one of these... are relatively flat maybe slight v shaped, so you may loose something in the bass, if you can eq the base a nudge higher with however you hook them up, you get 'fun' levels of bass, not bass cannons, I personally for my preference boost the 0-70hz range by about 4db and roll it off so that boost is only slightly there into the in the 100-150 range, any base that low demands to be loud and imposing, but I also love bass, I just don't like the over done turn everything else to mud that bass focused iems/headphones tend to do. these days what you get for very little is shocking I just looked up what you are most likely looking at/have, I assume you are going from se215 to an se425 or an aonic 3-5 so lets start out with the 425 its a dd and ba combo, not horrible but at 200-300$ (with shipping) price, you can do far better aonic 3 is a single ba, no body does this for audio anymore for a reason, single ba sucks and requires deep insertion into the ear to get the best sound, as in the deeper they go the better they sound, etymotic's are called ear dildos for a reason. aonic 4 has a dynamic driver and single ba, this is touching modern good but at a 320$ price point you are touching top class sound area of price, and these are not top class aonic 5 uses 3 balanced armatures, 2 for working as subwoofers, 1 for tweeters, this is not exactly a good design, ba's kinda suck for bass, its why almost everything uses a dynamic driver and a ba combination. GRANTED the shures are small, and if size is the only thing you care about it is what it is. seemingly their claim to iems is just from a durability standpoint, and that they were likely among the first ones to do it and have a professional music business. personally I would buy truthear pures, 1 dynamic drivers 3 ba, and see if they are good, along with whatever shure you want if you need to get it on a black friday or cyber monday sale, and return the one that you like less, just looking at what shure offers in terms of iems... they are not the iem to get at almost any price point, every single iem they sell is a step up in quality from the one that came before, yes, but we are in a world of rapid innovation and a race to the bottom in terms of prices, shure is demanding a name brand price hike while others do not. hell its entirely possible that the zero:2's will be a direct replacement for what you have if you want to save money
They would be pretty eye opening. Jumping from chu 2 to Daybreak is pretty drastic, if you want buy one, you won't regret it, it has a very detailed yet smooth sound signature.
I'll just say this straight up—these things are ***amazing*** However, there is a caveat. The stock tips on this are extremely horrible. It makes the IEMs extremely bright. The treble is literally piercing my ears without eartip changing. Give it some good wide bore eartips like the Coffee or (on my case) Moondrop Spring Tips and you bring out it's full potential. This is gonna be a *dumb* comparison (and thing to say). However out of all my IEMs—my Truthear Nova has the most oomph and spice. My Blessing 3 has the most clarity and detail. I'd say the Daybreak is a good middle ground. It has the right amount of spice and oomph like the Nova however with better clarity. It is **not** as clear as the Blessing 3. However, for the price range—it's really damn good. 170 USD for this is an amazing value. Regarding everything else, the accesories for this IEM are.....meh. But honestly that's fine. You can order wide bore eartips like the Spring Tips online for 10 USD. I don't expect them to make the box and accesories extra fancy due to them cutting cost to (probably) keep this IEM at a good price range. *Should you buy this?* Yeah, I would say go for it if you're willing to change eartips. And I'd say also yes if you listen to exciting types of music (J-Pop, K-Pop, video game OST) because it really does a damn job. I would check out Listener's review regarding this on the Headphones website. He explains everything much better than me. I just wanted to leave my opinion regarding this on Reddit. Anyways, thanks for listening to my IEM TED talk. Hope y'all have a good weekend!
The iPod is amazing, but it's also 20-25 years old at this point. So it's good to take advantage of modern technology, just like in the case of modding your iPod. I've been amazed by how far earphones, specifically in ear monitors or IEMs have come. You can get something really good for around 20 dollars (I love my Salnotes Zeros). There are many good value propositions. If you feel like spending more, something like the Crinear Daybreaks are an incredible accompaniment and an upgrade to the iPod. You don't have to change a thing on your iPod, just use the IEMs along with it. With the Daybreaks for example, the sound is upgraded to the next level - the bass is tight and almost liquid, the vocals are detailed, and instruments sound very clear. It's amazing!
I tried them too and I have to agree, the eartips suck but the IEM itself is awesome.
I recently purchased the Crinear Daybreak for 141Eur (163.20$) as my first "over 100$ IEM" after getting them recommended by a friend since I like low bass music and J-POP/game soundtracks that rely on a lot of treble and calm music. The problem is that I've seen many people on this sub call it bad or a complete waste of money, comparable to 20$ IEMs. To those who already have them, would you agree to those claims? Should I send them back once they arrive or are they fine?
I did receive and kept them. They are amazing and work very well with J pop indeed, especially Yona Yona Journey, Vocaloid and Suisei music.
That's good to know, as long as it's a quality IEM that works for my high treble needs then I'll be happy. Worst case scenario I'll only use it for certain albums that use a lot of treble (which is most of them in my case), and reserve other IEMs for other albums depending on the bass and treble.
You probably already received your pair by now but sound is very subjective. I enjoy these iems a lot and love the tuning. i typically listen to EDM, K-pop, J-pop, R&B, Classic Rock and Metal. These iems are good enough for me and i’d say they are good for their price. They are very mellow for me and very natural sounding. I LOVE BASS and these have good enough slam for me but I wouldn’t use them if I am craving bass lol. I use my Thieaudio Hype 4 if I really want big, deep bass without it bleeding into the other frequencies. I also own Moondrop Dusk (yes the Crinacle collab), Moondrop Blessings 3, Thieaudio Hype 4, Finalaudio A4000, and on the lower end of the price bracket the Linsoul KZ ZS10 Pro 2. My personal rankings for my IEM collection (from best to worst): Hype 4 = Dusk > Blessing 3 > Daybreak > Finalaudio A4000 > KZ ZS10 Pro. Daybreaks are good for their price range but I wouldn’t say they punch above their weight. The ones i ranked ahead are more than double the price of the Daybreak so it makes sense why my rankings are like that but if you have the money for the Daybreaks then I would say go for it and keep them and if you don’t like the tuning then just return them and maybe save up for a more expensive iem? Also just an FYI, I am pretty new to the IEM scene as I used to mainly collect and use Over-ear open back headphones (I own the Sennheiser HD800s, HD600, HD6xx, AKG K712 Pro, Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, hella Koss Porta Pros, and hella Grados). So you can take my say with a grain of salt since I am fairly new to IEMs.
