Long story, but we used to have a Simmons World Class Beautyrest Plush Eurotop that we loved, but then we got rid of it when we upgraded to a Cal King. Like everyone else on here, it has been a search for the right mattress ever since. I am a side sleeper (5'10", 165) and sleep hot so something with lots of memory foam is out (can be a lower layer). Tried the Naturepedic mattress (think it was the EOS) but they use dunlop latex and it was way too firm and bouncy for me, even with their soft topper. Now we have an Aireloom Bishop Plush and it doesn't hurt my hips and shoulders when I sleep on my side, but my lower back is sagging because it's too soft and now I have back and neck pain. What should I try next? I am okay with some latex but probably not for the top layer. I loved the Simmons old combo of high- density polyfoam with batting on top, but I don't feel like they make that style of mattress anywhere anymore. Any suggestions? Prefer something I can try in person since I am now looking for bed #3. A hybrid seems ideal, but their comfort layers are all the dreaded memory foam.
OP-having read through your responses, clearly you are a tenured expert. I’m 4-5 hours north of you, temped to come down to shop, but prior went with one of the locally owned/made places and it’s been rebuilt more than once, only to have the same problems. Huge back pain with that. Yet I can sleep on the couch or most hotels and have no issue. The only local place I’m seeing with Airloom is a different locally owned shop that sells the Aireloom® Preferred Collection Luxetop M1 Pocketed Coil Plush. Is that the same thing as the one you mentioned in multiple comments herein? Would I be remiss to buy something like this without trying it first? My issue with that is most of them feel good in the store. It’s half way through the night where the pain kicks in.
I stopped by the local shop who sells Aireloom M1’s and was blown away at how good they felt. Mine will be here next week! I told the guy about your AMA and that you were peak knowledge level in this biz. Good stuff - thanks again for sharing your expertise & insights
Yes 100% sleeping through the night changed everything for me when I got my aireloom M1 plush
Aireloom has been great for my husband for side sleeping. Which made me think I would hate it because I sleep mostly on my back but its been fine for me too. The worst bed we had was a layla i had crazy back pain every morning 9 months into having that bed. Went away when we got Aireloom
If you really want to ensure no sagging you need a tufted mattress, tufted from the top to bottom like a King Koil or Aireloom Im sure there are others. Without tufts you are at the mercy of the springs alone. I have an Aireloom and it does not sink at all its uniform from the edges to the middle. Look up tufting it will explain more
I was there with you. I had a temperpedic for many years but I hated it in warm months it sagged. Then I did tons of research online got a Layla then my back hurt like heck for months and I came to Reddit to find many people had same experience with it. Then I got an Aireloom and everything changed [https://youtu.be/J\_6fBI3iq3c](https://youtu.be/J_6fBI3iq3c) take a watch of this video and you can reach out the guy who made it he will talk you through everything, spent a ton of time on phone with me.
Aireloom M1 is by far the best mattress we have tried/bought over 15 years (Sealy, Stern and Foster and many other hotel beds)
I just got an aireloom luxetop from nfm because the 72 month financing was too good, and you’re making me regret my choice. Great matress but the price still hurts
I just got an aireloom matress and love it. Pricier but got it from NFM on 72 months no interest. I like a plush mattress though. I’m a side sleeper. They do have different firmnesses. I got rid of a Beautyrest that I will never get again. Comfortable but breaks down way too easy.
I have an Aireloom and I never thought I would pay that much for a matress. The difference though between that and all the others I laid on were night and day. I’m happy with my purchase since I got it from nfm for 72 month no interest. I tried looking into them and I could hardly find any reviews other than a Reddit post here and there. Apparently they don’t do much marketing but they are still expensive. So I would say for brands like Sterns and Foster and what you see on “best matress” lists yes but some are worth it
I don’t claim to be an Aireloom/Kluft expert, but I’m familiar with their products, history, and materials and am not shy about formulating an opinion. From what I’ve seen, the models made for Macy’s are exclusive versions produced to meet Macy’s specific standards. This practice is quite common, as many manufacturers create exclusives for major retailers like Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Neiman Marcus. That doesn’t mean the brands themselves aren’t good, but in general, I’ve found that independent dealers often carry versions that feel a bit more refined or better constructed than the big-store exclusives. Aireloom fits somewhere above the traditional “S” or legacy brands in terms of quality, but I’d still place them in the “they don’t make them like they used to” category. That said, Aireloom was actually one of my top three choices when I was mattress shopping about three years ago. I ultimately passed because of their use of perimeter edge foam support encasement, something I’m not a big fan of, though I’ve warmed up to it slightly when it’s thoughtfully integrated into the design. Plus, there were some off site reviews that made me a little nervous in their price category. One other point: for a company that positions itself as a high-end, luxury brand, a 10-year warranty feels a bit light. Of course, warranties across the industry tend to come with plenty of caveats, so they’re not always the best measure of real-world durability. At the end of the day, what matters most is comfort, material quality, and how well the mattress holds up over time. Those are the factors that ultimately define whether a mattress, and the company behind it, live up to their reputation. A final thought I have on Aireloom is when comparing them to Shifman, I like the fact that most Shifman, which the exception of their entry level line for independents, use all natural materials. Whether it be latex, wool, cotton, and horsehair. I find that similarly priced Airelooms are using a lot of synthetic foams, which causes me to pause a bit for a luxury category mattress. Hope this helps.
