I have an Avacado Luxury Pillowtop, the quality and presentation of the bed are great (I'd hope that from a $5200 dollar bed though), but personally I found it to be too soft to really feel like I can fully relax. I tried a green pillowtop and it seemed to be a little firmer, its interesting because I tried it at one showroom and it felt like a rock (maybe they hadn't fully broken it in) at another retailer though it felt more like a regular 6/10. Personally I will always want to try out a bed before I buy it, I'm exchanging my Avocado for a Helix mattress (midnight luxe) and I only ordered it because a mattress store nearby had them and I got to demo it. I will say that the Avocado beds seem to take awhile to break in (mine is finally getting bearable 50 days in) I totally agree on the subject of the feel of latex being polarizing and after experiencing it I realized I prefer a memory foam hybrid over it. I wonder if something like Helix would help drive traffic if theres not another retailer nearby. Forbes, Wired, and CNET have it in their top mattresses, with Forbes and Wired having it as their best overall pick for a mattress.
Consider an Avocado Green Mattress in a Pillow-top, a GOTS-certified organic latex hybrid mattress. It's well-suited to your side and back sleeping preferences, fits your budget, and because it uses natural materials, it breathes well and retains little heat (sleeps cool).
[Avocado Green](https://www.avocadogreenmattress.com/products/green-natural-organic-mattress) They were best on Consumer Reports when I bought it and at the time it was money back for about 30 days if you don't like it. I think it is $99 to return now.
My wife and I are currently on our seventh trial mattress in 2 years. The mattress market has changed a lot since I last bought one in \~2016, and the model that I liked then of course is no longer available. One of the mattresses we tried was the "new" version of that model, and it was just junk in comparison. Our preference is for medium firmness, so I won't offer specific recommendations. However, as someone who sleeps hot and prefers organic materials, I will say this: Latex is natural, unlike memory foam. It has more bounce and cradles less. For the top itself, Tencel is OK but cotton/wool is where it's at. The non-natural "cooling" stuff is a joke as far as I'm concerned. Out of the 7 we've tried, 2 stand out. One of the first we tried, hybrid with memory foam and a non-natural top. Firmness is perfect but it sleeps hot. Nest Sparrow. We kept it as a guest bed since we needed one for our new home anyway. The other is a hybrid too, but with latex and a cotton/wool top. Wish it were just a little bit more forgiving at the hips in terms of firmness, since I like to sleep on my side, but I don't overheat at all, which is phenomenal. Avocado Organic Pillowtop (from Costco).
I sleep hot. 1. I recommend cotton or silk sheets/blankets. I also recommend cotton for a mattress pad. 2. The mattress itself should be hybrid. Or just innerspring if you can tolerate it. 3. The top inside layer should be made of latex. Energex is OK. Avoid memory foam. 3. The top cover should be cotton or wool. Tencel is OK. Avoid manmade materials, including "cooling" covers. (They only work temporarily.) Not all brands are created equal, so you may find a memory foam mattress with a Tencel cover that gets the job done. Go for it in that case, as all-natural options can be quite spendy. I settled on an Avocado mattress after trying over half a dozen options, and it was by far the most expensive of the lot.
Hey there, So I'm 5'10", 220lbs. Mostly side, sometimes back sleeper. I'd been sleeping on a medium budget foam (not even memory foam) mattress for about a decade, when I decided I needed something new. I'd been having upper back problems due to scoliosis, which the doctor recommended a firmer mattress for. Great. I hear great things about latex mattresses and decide to go with Avocado Green (what had been the Standard when I bought it, now is called the Medium). Good news, it's been great for my upper back. Solid firmness has helped up there a ton. Bad news, after 4 months it's been absolutely killing my lower back and hips. I gave it time for my back to adjust and any break in to happen, but it's just been getting worse. Tightness, pain, and finally spasming. I'm relegated to the couch now. It think down near my lower backs and hips I can feel it pushing up at the small of my back, which combined with the firmness seems to be causing my problem. I threw on a cheap 3" memory foam topper I had laying around, but that did not help. Then again, it was quite old. So this mattress needs a return, but what to replace it with? A few thoughts: I've heard Talalay might be better for side sleepers, and I keep hearing good things about Engineered Sleep? But it also could be that the pressure that latex provides just isn't right for me. It's not Latex, but I also hear good things about Nolah for heavier types like myself. I don't like the sinking feeling of purely foam mattresses. Any other thoughts? I couldn't find anything zoned in a way that seems to fit what my spine seems to be demanding.
I went and layed on it because chat gpt sent me there and it just feels like a cheap mattress.
