Hi! I bought an avocado luxury bed with the pillow top (not box top). It’s been painful to sleep on for about 50 days and is just starting to get better, though I’m suspecting that it doesn’t quite have enough support or pressure relief for me around the hip, I’m a 5’ 10 side sleeper that is 180lbs for context. I went and tried some beds and felt that the helix midnight luxe might be a great option, I also tried the tempurpedic luxe adapt medium hybrid, I was surprised that the helix midnight luxe actually felt better to me than the tempurpedic. Anyways all this is to say two things. 1. Buying a bed is a pain and I’ve learned I should have done much more research before. Like visiting your site! 2. What are your personal thoughts on Tempurpedic vs Helix? They were both good, but the helix is a lot less and sort of makes me wonder what I might be missing.
I have an Avacado Luxury Pillowtop, the quality and presentation of the bed are great (I'd hope that from a $5200 dollar bed though), but personally I found it to be too soft to really feel like I can fully relax. I tried a green pillowtop and it seemed to be a little firmer, its interesting because I tried it at one showroom and it felt like a rock (maybe they hadn't fully broken it in) at another retailer though it felt more like a regular 6/10. Personally I will always want to try out a bed before I buy it, I'm exchanging my Avocado for a Helix mattress (midnight luxe) and I only ordered it because a mattress store nearby had them and I got to demo it. I will say that the Avocado beds seem to take awhile to break in (mine is finally getting bearable 50 days in) I totally agree on the subject of the feel of latex being polarizing and after experiencing it I realized I prefer a memory foam hybrid over it. I wonder if something like Helix would help drive traffic if theres not another retailer nearby. Forbes, Wired, and CNET have it in their top mattresses, with Forbes and Wired having it as their best overall pick for a mattress.
I have an avocado latex hybrid (3yrs) and it sags. We are about 190lbs and 120.
I finally looked up my order: ORGANIC LUXURY PLUSH…This hybrid mattress features 17 premium layers of organic and natural latex, wool, silk, hemp, and cotton, combined with up to 2,588 individually encased coils arranged in 7 ergonomic zones for support and motion isolation
It was delivered in Feb 2022. We bought the split king and both sides have been sagging for at least 2yrs. Mattress price was close to 6k
My Avocado latex hybrid (3ys) sags😡
I absolutely HATE my Avocado luxury plush bed that cost around 6k. It’s uncomfortable and sags badly. 4yrs old
Do not buy into the Avocado scores! Sitting here this morning discussing with my SO how much I hate my Avocado Organic Luxury plush mattress that was over 6k with tax. My hip hurts his shoulder hurts. We HATE this mattress that is just now 4 yrs old.
I have a 6k Avocado hybrid that is an absolute piece of shit. So no, price doesn’t mean quality.
Yes, I wish I’d known that when I bought😡
We bought a 6k (with tax) Avocado luxury plush hybrid and it sucks. We’ve had it for 4 yrs and it is sagging terribly!
Consumer Reports also LOVED the Avocado Mattress that I bought at 6K$ and it’s terrible.
Yep, started sagging really badly by 3yrs.
Spent 5k+ on an avocado mattress 3 years ago and hate it, sags badly so don’t look at avocados.
Avocado brand. We bought their premium model and it was expensive - but also hands down the best purchase ever. Totally worth it.
We tried all the Avocado latex hybrid ranges and don’t believe they are worth the money. The best (to us) was the Luxury tight top which was about 3,200 for twin xl on sale ($4,000) full retail. The green is very simply made - coil, 2” of Dunlop and wool in the ticking. Buy the one that is the most comfortable to you. Most latex hybrids should last a similar duration. You won’t get a longer lasting one by spending more on it. Ideally buy that you can change layers in but I haven’t seen any like that so far. Engineered sleep comes the closest and though I haven’t tried them, they are the best (to me) design philosophy. We just bought bespoke ones from CST otherwise I was going to get something from engineered sleep.
They are 100% commodity with the simpler builds such as Avocado green. However the luxury line is not simple due to it being a mix of very different materials. Buy or build what’s most comfortable to you with a generous return policy. That’s it. I will write a longer post about my experience later but I now agree with all the old hands here - must try in stores to really know what works and what does not. Imho winkbeds are super affordable as well and absurdly comfortable.
The only real data would come from mattress companies who don’t publish this. As the industry insider you probably can share data on warranty claims approved vs denied. I have read so many posts from people having a bad experience with mattresses warranty claims. The link between stains and warranty denials is a prime example of this - as if a a stain caused the mattress to dip. If you believe warranties are great and working, good on you. But if you have spent any time on these forums, you understand that you can get you claim fulfilled but not easily and not often. Here are some links you can use to educate yourself 1/ https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/mattress-firm-class-action-says-sealy-warranty-claims-unfairly-denied/ 2/ https://www.webblawgroup.com/blog/2014/september/mattress-warranty-stain-exclusions-and-improper-/
I’m a side sleeper as well. I liked the avocado pillow top mattress that i tried in store. It’s $3000 for the queen which is outside my price range. The beauty rest black which was 4k was really nice as well. Under 5k, there are tons of options. I want stay in 1k or under price range for my purchase so I’m looking at family owned mattress stores that carry local/regional manufacturers.
I think the costco mattress is a good option. The pillow-top they sell in stores has 5 inches of latex. The costco pillowtop version has 4 inches but it is considerably cheaper.
Avocado mattress with plush latex topper. It’s super heavy though. I don’t have sore spots anymore when I wake up. Supportive but not hard
