Idk. I know *some* mattresses are a scam, for sure. I have experience with two decent range mattresses. I had one of the old Tempurpedic mattresses from when they were still a block of foam in a tan cover. Not QUITE the ones you got from an infomercial, but definitely not the super fancy ones they make now. It was very comfortable, but it was HOT. I also didn’t love how hard it could be to turn over or readjust at night. When I was comfortable, though, I was SO COMFORTABLE. It lasted about 8 or 9 years before I noticed a significant dip in support and decided to move on. Next was my BeautyRest Black Clermont. It’s a hybrid mattress, so springs underneath several inches of memory foam. I liked it a lot as well. Very, very comfortable, and not nearly as hot as the TP was. I’ve had it for about 8 or 9 years, and about 6 months ago I started to notice that the support seemed to fall out almost overnight. It’s just not there anymore. I can’t do purely springs, and I don’t like the feel of most pillow tops you find in the Sealy/Serta grade mattresses. And my experience as a housesitter/traveler reinforces that that type of bed isn’t right for me. I hate the way they flatten out and start to feel, even if they aren’t that old. I won’t go bed in a box for a bunch of reasons. So it leaves me in this position where I’m either going to go pretty cheap (maybe a Costco mattress) just to get something new, or I’m going to go expensive and buy through a local company here in Boulder called Urban Mattress. Their reviews are outstanding, and the one I’m looking at has pocket coils and then two layers of latex and a really luxurious cover. The price makes me bristle a little, but honestly? It’s not too bad considering what I paid for the TP 20 years ago and this BeautyRest about 10 years ago, and the quality is much higher than either of them. And when I’ve laid on it? Oh. My. God. It’s a comfort level (I’m a side sleeper) with underlying support like I haven’t experienced on any other mattress I’ve tried. I’m hoping to pull the trigger in the next couple of months.
Haven't found a salesperson who knows what density foam they have. I'm having such a hard time. Last time I got a Beautyrest hybrid that was below the black, and I really really liked it. But the girl left me and took the mattress which is fine. This time I'm not falling in love with any of the mattress options at local showrooms. I'm really running out of options but need to act as I am sleeping on the couch and it sucks. I don't like the black, I love anything and am almost out of retailers to try
What’s your BMI, if you don’t mind? As a lightweight side sleeper I tried the Beautyrest C Plush pillow top and thought that my hips sank in way too much. I felt similarly about the medium pillow top.
I’ll try to keep this brief and not lay out a novel. Currently my partner and I have a king Simmons Beautyrest Hybrid Pillow Top Plush which is about 5 years old. I’m 175lbs and 90% stomach, 10% side sleeper. She is 135lbs and about 50/50 side/back sleeper. The Simmons has been a great bed and even though it’s a plush, it seems equally as firm as some mediums we have tried out recently. We are both pretty active, no predisposed aches/pains, but haven’t been diligent in rotating our mattress so there’s some impressions in the mattress that have developed. That’s on us. Current frame and box springs are solid, so we will be looking at just a mattress purchase. So far we have made one trip to a furniture store and tried out: \- Sealy Ellie Lane EPT Medium - front runner so far (worried about durability due to price point, TBH) \- Sterns & Foster Estate Medium TT - runner up \- Sterns & Foster Lux Estate Firm EPT - initial comfort isn’t much better/different than above two options, although I wonder if durability will be better due to price/debsity \- Purple - not a huge fan \- Termpur Pedic - not a huge fan \- Dream Cloud - not a huge fan Full memory foams aren’t our preference, and we plan to go check out some nicer Beautyrest options as well as other options today. Any suggestions on what to check out? Update: post shopping today - we really liked the Beautyrest Black series one medium tight top. Update 2: the Sealy Elite medium tight top was also a top contender. We also became adjustable base fans. Update 3: [made a purchase](https://www.reddit.com/r/Mattress/s/U0PbNPDAD1)
I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for. But I now own 2 beautyrest hybrid mattresses from Macys and it came with some basic mattress stand that has electric motors so you can lift the mattress head. Every guest that has stayed over has loved the comfort from younger to older people. I would at least check it out and they’re not crazy expensive maybe around $1500-2000
Ive bought 3 mattresses for myself In 2 years. 1st one failed in 9 months, sales person pushed a bed frame as a resolution to back pain. Hybrid foam that was supportive was worn out in 3 months, I slept on all 4 and ended up in a hammock and in pain for 9 months not understanding why until I slept in a different bed and I knew then it was the mattress. I couldbt do a warranty claim because that foam bounces right back up like normal and looks flawless until you lay down. So I go back to Mattress Firm because they said they would take care of me...they push me to a beautyrest, in 53 days laying the way I do in bed I wore the hybrid foam out!!! I made them come get it immediately. Dude, I decided on the Purple restore plus, over 3k...they sent me a soft bed, I wanted the firm. Today was night 3. Im in agony and they are closed on the weekends. With all that being said stay away of that cheap foam, it feels great in the store but not after you lay on that shit for a few months.
Do not get S&F estate firm euro top. I’ve seen way too many issues with that mattress in particular. I would really consider going with the Beautyrest Black. They have a hybrid line. If you’re wanting a hybrid (more of a foam feel) you could go with a Tempur. They are well regarded and considered to have one of the best customer satisfaction rate in the industry
Whatever you buy, make sure you lay on it for a good 15 minutes to half hour before you buy. And not when you're tired, either. Be able to actively feel how your body likes it. I still love my mattress 12 years later. It's a hybrid Beautyrest, nothing too fancy.
