Just got a Beautyrest Black series four medium pillow top last year. Even opted in for the adjustable frame with massage function.
Not sure how you saw the quality of the BR Series 4 doesn’t hold up? Those mattresses came out 1 year ago in 2024 and are pretty much an entirely new design and materials.
I returned mine for comfort reasons. But just saying you can’t really claim longevity issues on a 1 year old mattress
I purchased a Beautyrest Black series 4 less than 6 months ago and it is horrible. It already has sagging and imprints from where I sleep. I have seen numerous other complaints about this since I started having problems.
Beauty rest is no longer something worth considering, long gone are the days they make good beds. The reason for the mixed reviews about aireloom is they do “hotel” collections for big box stores. The hotel collection beds suck, the ones they make in their national collection are pretty solid.
I really like Stearns and Foster for innerspring. They use tencel in some of their mattresses which I feel is a little cool to the touch. Sealy and Beautyrest are good too! All three use some memory foam unfortunately and most S&F uses Tempur foam which I feel is warmer than most. I wouldn’t do S&F in a pillow top cause it would be a lot of memory foam.
I think the Series 3 is the sweet spot. I'm a side sleeper that normally likes a soft, but the series 3 medium pillow top is super supportive (soft has the plush coils, medium and firm have the firm coils) and there is plenty of pressure relief even in the medium. Of course, everyone sleeps different, which is why they make 9 different feels in the series 3. I can't speak too much towards the hybrids if that's what you're looking for, as I'm not familiar with the series 3 hybrids (and wasn't a big fan of s1 or s2 hybrids). The series 2 in your budget, medium pillow top, it's a good bed, but it's closer to the series 1 than the series 3. They're a lot of money, but they have the warranty, and generally stand behind it. I'm not sure what else you tried, but in that range the only other thing that compares for me is going up to a Tempur Luxe Adapt.
This is exactly the reason for the split king though. I'd just make sure you're hitting the same profile. You don't want the bigger partner on a 13" extra firm and the lighter one on a 15.5" soft pillow top. You could have a soft luxe adapt and they could have a firm luxe breeze, same profiles but completely different feels and temp sensitivity. Or you could get a Stearns Estate soft pillow top and they a Stearns Estate firm pillow top. Or a Beautyrest Black Series 3 Plush pillow top and Firm pillow top (this will probably be the biggest difference in feel and support of any mattresses from the same line, because Beautyrest actually has a plush coil for the plush BR Blacks and a firm coil for the medium and firm BR Blacks). Although you both might actually like the BR Black Series 3 medium pillow top, because it does have a pretty cushy immediate feel, and the lighter partner may not even engage the support coils.
I know it sucks, and not to be a salesman but invest in a nice one. 0% financing is usually available, lease to own if credit isn’t the best, save up a good chunk. Yes it’s a lot but you’ll be happy with the bed for longer for sure. You use it everyday and it’s gonna make you a lot happier in life. And the new beauty rest blacks have been really solid series 2 and up id say.
The maine concern I have here is you're looking at firm mattresses but you sleep on your side. Id look into a hybrid firm or a innerspring medium no pillow top to start. If you want high quality and good warranty. Go to any mattress firm and try a Beauty rest black medium and a tempurpedic medium hybrid. Side sleepers do not need a firm bed.
So get it warrantied. If you got it from a repuptable dealer it'll have a 10 year warranty. Theres always a lemon in a million. Also you said shor period of time? Like suring a break in period? Every mattress is going to have an impression especially between 30 and 120 days. These beds have insanley strong steel coils and foams. Make sure its actually the series 3 that been out for maybe a year now. The older series 3 with natural materials are garbage.
