I’m struggling with the same thing! I just had a beautyrest world class level 3 extra firm mattress delivered yesterday. It was very comfortable and just the perfect firmness, but I noticed in the morning there was already a slight indentation (as deep as the width of a straw, so very minimal) around my hips area. The mattress has a few layers of high density gel memory foam, which worries me. I called customer support and they said the memory foam should return to its original thickness, but it definitely didn’t recover fully. I’ll see how it goes with more nights of sleep. If I return this I’ll need to find a replacement!
Yep. One reviewer says a bed is the hardest thing ever. Next reviewer sent it back due to being too soft. On and on it goes. Most reviews seem to be on bed in a bag type stuff. Since Covid, quality has died basically, except for Weber grills. I had a Serta Perfect Sleeper that was great for 7 years then started needing replaced. I doubt I'll find another like it that will last 5 years. Everyone is pushing bed in a bag. I settled on Saatva and ordered their luxury firm...but then got note it's going to be another 3 weeks yet. Forget it. I canceled and told them I'll go to Macy's. I am looking now at the Stearns and Foster Luxe Estate tight top. I am 229 so need something to hold up better for heavier people. My Serta did and I took old advisement from a mattress forum to get a firm bed and a 3" talaly topper. This time, I am going to get a medium bed and the 3" talalay latex topper....in medium. Just change out the topper when needed after a few years. The S&F Luxe Estate is supposed to hold up well for heavier folks. Better than the Saatva from what I can see. If not the S&F mattress...then the Beautyrest Black. I'll try them both out tomorrow.
Went to Macy's and tried a lot of beds. Thought I was going to either purchase the Beautyrest World Class level 4 medium or S&F Luxe Estate medium. We tried those out and others. We kept coming back to the Beautyrest World Class level 3 medium firm. Non pillow top, in king. Tried it out for 15 mins at the end and liked it. Side sleepers here, and a bit heavier. We felt zero pressure points I nearly fell asleep. Comfy. Of course that is broken in a bit. Deal there was free box springs(we chose low profile 5" ones) and delivery with 25 dollar pickup of old bed and foundation. $1684 and change out the door. Deal for us. We changed to the level 3 once we saw what level 4 top looked like. It would compete on our 3" talalay topper. They will deliver it early next week so very fast. Sales guy was very knowledgeable on beds. Gave us a lot of tips to prevent the king ridge. Went through other beds, too, with him. He talked about breaking the bed in and how to do that faster as well as a rotation schedule. 4 months test on it. 2 months to break it in and 2 months to try out. We tried out every Beautyrest black they had and could not find a comfortable one for us. Too squishy on most of them. One was hard as a rock. Even tested tempurpedics. We didn't like those at all. I'll update you once we get the bed. (With quality since covid, I'd be happy to get 5 solid years out of this bed. More will be a bonus!)
Got the bed yesterday, medium firm, Beautyrest World Class Level 3. Firm for sure. more firm than medium firm. I slept OK. My back did not hurt me upon waking. I thought that was great. It's not broken in yet. I will put a 3" talalay topper on but the sales guy said don't do it for 2-3 weeks. Keep breaking it in before doing that. That seems to be the advisement on most bed sites, too. I slept fine I thought and it was great waking up with no backache. My wife didn't have the same experience. Spouse is a bit heavier than I am and complained on it being too firm. We are both side sleepers. I think this bed will be nice from what I can tell. Almost zero motion transfer. Sales guy said to walk all over bed for 5 mins a day. I'll do that, too. All in all, I am pleased on this bed and saved a lot of money vs the Saatva I had ordered but cancelled due to taking them forever.
Beautyrest World Class Level 3...I went with the plush, but it's plenty supportive, had it for around a month, love it. I'm 6'7" 260lbs
We bought a sterns and foster a couple years ago and it did just as you described. Sagged within months and gave us back pain. We replaced it with a hotel collection aireloom hybrid mattress and it’s been great. We also have a beauty rest world class hybrid in our guest room and it’s a GREAT mattress. I also slept on a tuft and needle mattress at a vacation rental that was amazing. There are good mattresses out there.
It’s honestly a great mattress. All our guests rave about it and we used it when the sterns and foster we got for our primary made our back hurt until we could replace that one. Would have taken it into the primary to just use it full time but it’s a queen and our primary is king.
You keep believing that at about CR. Lol... Yes I laid on three models of Casper....didn't like any of them. It could be that the ones I laid on had memory foam as the predominant foams, not sure...but I hate memory foam. OP was asking about longevity and the Elite Sealy has a really good coil system. I would skip the Pillow top myself and do a quilt top on the elite but the support system is top notch. When I was trying to decide, I went to no less than 7 stores and spent ridiculous amounts of time laying on mattresses and then formulated a top 5 list and laid on them several more times for extended periods (salespeople all knew me by then). Sealy Elite made our top 5 list but ultimately did not win out. My finalists were (remember we wanted firm and hate MF): 1. Diamond Mattress Black Diamond Vail 2. Helix Twilight Elite 3. King Koil Natural Cascade 4. Sealy Elite Albany II 5. BR World Class Level Three (Budget Option) All of these were firm feel quilt top mattresses which is what our preference was as we hate the MF Hybrid Top ones. So I standby by my comment and my thoughts about CR. :) The most important thing to remember is mattresses are subjective and you will hear love/hate for every brand out there. I don't hate any of them and many have not been out long enough to really gauge longevity. (For instance Helix completely redesigned their mattresses in 2025). Lastly, one point of reference I always looked at was warranty or satisfaction return rates. Most dealers that sold the elite series Sealy had a non existent return rate. Shockingly one of the most returned ones was the BR Black series (Their top of the line). Also they had the highest warranty repair/replace due to manufacturing issues with their triple stranded coils that were tearing into the comfort materials. These things you don't hear about much unless you dig.
It's not about being bought so much as editor and writer bias. I really don't trust any review sites. Plus with mattresses being so subjective, you can really only try to get good quality and craftsmanship but the actual layers and materials are different for everyone. I had looked and tried so many and had created a spreadsheet...lol. my top 5 at the end of it all was : Helix Twilight Elite King Koil Natural Cascade Sealy Albany II Elite Diamond Mattress Black Diamond Vail SF Luxe Estate was up there as well and my budget pick was a BR World Class Level 3. I ended up purchasing the Black Diamond Vail. (Has their top of the line coil system). It is a flat pack model not a rolled up box model) I really wanted the Twilight Elite from Helix as it has a fully encased comfort layer (foam and micro coils) that is swappable for different feels. If we return this one (we are early in the trial) that is the one I will probably choose but this one feels very high quality and was $800 cheaper.
BeautyRest World Class series which is actually my preferred series in their line as it's higher quality than the two lines below it and doesn't seem to have as many QA issues as the Black series above it has. I think this line is solid. (Series 3 or 4) Sealy - as long as you stick with the Pro or Elite line there, you will get Sealy's best coil system and you can choose what kind of comfort layer you want (plush, medium, firm) and the top layer format (hybrid, quilt, euro). That would also be a solid choice. (I would choose an Elite Series) Sterns - I like their Lux Estate models and again you can choose your comfort layer and top format. Helix - Gets a lot of love in the community and specifically they make a lot of models that are designed for the different sleeper positions. I would consider their luxe models for a bit more comfort over the core models. An example of how much they offer is if you want a luxe model that is Firm, they make one for side sleepers and one for back sleepers...the difference is they simply replace one layer of foam with another or swap those layer orders. Helix makes an Elite line and if I were to buy one it would be one of those...not because the comfort layer is thicker or it has micro coils and foam, but for the flexibility of the comfort layer swap. The entire comfort layer (several layers) is encased in a cotton cover that simply slips into the Top cover. You can swap just that layer later when your needs change for much less than buying a new mattress. Start off with Helix Midnight Elite and feel you need it firmer? Just have them send you a Dawn or Twilight comfort layer and swap it. Pretty convenient. Diamond - Ultimately my wife & I choose the "Black Diamond" series from Diamond Mattress. It had everything we wanted (just enough give on the top layer without being soft, a good coil support system and cooling features. We bought the Black Diamond Vail (Lux Hybrid Quilt Top in Firm). If we dont like it (Not here yet), The Helix Twilight Elite is my next go to. Good luck!!
If you're looking at Beautyrest, the World Class models are better than the PressureSmarts IMO. Also if that's a screen grab from Mattress To Go, they should have other firm options as well. Generally you want to look for higher density poly foams around 1.8lbs. Memory foam densities are somewhat less important, although something around 3-4lbs is usually best.
Have this same mattress in a firm plush Cal King. Absolutely love it, and so does the wife. I’m 6’3” 260, she’s 5’4” 115 We came from a 15 yr old Simmons World Class
The Beautyrest World Class mattresses might stray slightly north of $1,500 for a king, but they're solid mattresses for the money. They're way better than the BR800s they're still trying to sell at a certain giant mattress chain.
