If you're chemically sensitive look for GOTS and GREENGUARD Gold certifications, those are the ones that actually mean something. Brooklyn Bedding's EcoSleep Luxe has organic cotton and natural latex with eco certifications. RV Mattress also carries some eco friendly options if you want budget choices. Natural latex is def better than memory foam for off gassing, it breathes way better and doesn't have the chemical smell. Avoid anything with synthetic foams or adhesives. Let it air out for a few days before sleeping on it even if it's certified organic, that helps a lot.
I’d look at RV Mattress first since their stuff actually comes in those weird RV sizes and holds up better than the thin pads most rigs ship with. If you want something with more backbone, Brooklyn Bedding has some solid hybrids that last way longer for full time use. Just measure your frame and pick a height that won’t slam into your cabinets and you’re good.
If your mattress is sagging your back's prob gonna keep getting worse. A sagging mattress can't support your spine right and that's why your recovery scores are trash. Brooklyn Bedding or Leesa both have solid options for back support without the crazy markup. Test at home so you can actually see if your sleep quality improves. Also make sure you're not sleeping in weird positions trying to avoid the sag, that makes it worse too.
I bought a latex ecosleep in late 2024 and it was really nice for a while. But recently I've been getting lower back pain even tho my sleeping habits haven't changed. It originally started where my back was hurting once a night every few weeks but now it's been every night for the past week. I know part of that is prolly due to having a partner sleep with me which I know the extra weight will cause wear on the mattress but now I feel like I need to get a new one. The ecosleep isn't even showing on BBs website anymore even tho when I click the "view order" link on my receipt. Mattresses feel like such a headache so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction as I've researched countless ones and still don't know which to get. My girlfriend has endometriosis which causes her to run hot at night very similarly to menopause so I'm hoping to find a mattress that's breathable Im also hoping to find something that's antimicrobial to help with allergies as that was the main reason I went with the latex mattress. Now I'm not entirely sure of the big argument between springs and memory foam but I heard memory foam isn't breathable at all so I'd like to avoid that for my girlfriend.
Back pain started a couple months ago about a year and a half after I got it. But it's good to know about the latex thing I didn't know about that. I've heard bad things about purple mostly due to the difficulty to clean and the ungodly smell that lasts for weeks after getting it even when people try to air it out and wash it. I'll definitely look into pocket coils with the cotton or wool cover
Brooklyn bedding hybrid, I'm now a big fan of hybrid foam/spring mattresses for support and longevity (our previous memory foam mattress from Ikea now definitely has a person shaped hollow in it)
If you run hot, I’d check out Brooklyn Bedding or Plank before grabbing straight memory foam. BB hybrids move air way better so you’re not waking up sweaty. Plank helps too since you stay on top of the mattress instead of melting into it. Makes a big difference at like 3 AM when everything feels warm. I’d test a medium-firm hybrid at home and see if it keeps you dry.
For that budget Brooklyn Bedding or RV Mattress are better value than Nectar. Factory direct so you're not paying markup. Both have home trials. About the FB Marketplace ones, prob overstock but you're gambling w/ no warranty. Buying direct is safer.
When my wife and I were mattress shopping, we relied a lot on the analysis from Sleepopolis https://sleepopolis.com/ One person's perfect mattress is another's chronic back pain, so it's not a wise item to crowdsouce. This site has videos that show different types of sleepers, where the pressure points are, and how it's likely going to affect you long term. I like data driven analysis and this site is full of it. We ended up going with a Brooklyn Bedding Hybrid (spent like $1,200 on sale) because it had the features we wanted: cooling, good edge support, you won't disturb the person next to you if you get up, firm enough for support and bounce but still soft up top. I'm very happy with it, and would recommend it if those are what's important to you. But you're different, different body with different needs. At the end of the day, we're spending close to a third of our lives in bed. You can only cheap out on that so much.
About 7 or 8 years into it now and Im very happy with the decision, it's been a fantastic fit for us.
I am a side sleeper and it's been great
Brooklyn Bedding. I lived in my RV while I was building out my tiny house and was hooked up with a great deal on a hybrid mattress. I lived in the RV for about 18 months and when I moved into the house, I took the mattress with me. They make all kinds of sizes (mainly for RVs), but I bought a standard Queen, 10" thick. Delivered right to my door. Loved it so much I bought one for my dad.
I swear by my Brooklyn Bedding hybrid mattress. Heaviest at 290 it was perfect for me AND my husband who isn’t plus size. It was recommended to us by our friends and the guy is 6’2, 200 something with back problems and it is the best financial investment we have ever made.
I swear on my Brooklyn Bedding mattress. My friend is 6’2 larger male and got us on it and it’s the best mattress we’ve ever slept on. It’s a hybrid but sooooo nice.
Hybrid!! We just went with a Brooklyn Bedding hybrid mattress and I’m obsessed with it.
