I'm a side sleeper who runs hot. Just bought a King size Helix Elite for about $3600 and am absolutely obsessed with it. Tbh was twice what we were planning to spend but we went to multiple mattress showrooms and it was by far the best mattress we tried.
It's a lot cooler than my previous mattress (Casper which I hated) and even though the mattress is a lot firmer, it's also somehow more comfortable??? Like the mattress feels supportive but also cushy on top at the same time. I don't usually have back pains but was starting to get back and hip issues on my old mattress due to pregnancy, and a few nights on the Helix made those go away. If you can find a showroom that has the Elite (most show rooms we went to only had the Luxe, which is one tier down and nice but didn't blow us away like the Elite) definitely try it! The salesperson remarked they don't even push the Helix mattresses because they sell themselves which I absolutely believe.
Also got our guest room a Casper! It’s GREAT!
We loved it so much we bought one for our in laws to replace their guest room mattress (selfishly for us to use when we visit) 😂
We have one as well and we’re very happy with it. We did try a Casper but it felt like quicksand. This was before they ever had mattress samples to try. That ended up being returned which was a bit of pain.
The “medium firm works for everyone” advice needs to die already. Mattress companies use that phrase like seasoning. One brand’s medium-firm feels supportive and balanced, another feels like gym mats stacked over concrete. There’s barely any standardization, yet reviewers throw the term around like it’s scientifically measurable.
Tried Casper, then a Saatva, then eventually landed on a latex hybrid because I got tired of sinking into foam trenches after a few months. Every review site kept describing memory foam as “hugging.” Cool marketing word until you realize some combo sleepers absolutely hate that trapped feeling while repositioning. I don’t want my mattress emotionally attached to me every time I move at 3am.
Another thing nobody warns people about enough: showroom testing is borderline useless for combo sleepers. Laying still for six minutes under bright retail lights tells you NOTHING about how the mattress behaves after six hours of tossing around. Some beds feel supportive at first but become exhausting because they resist movement subtly throughout the night.
Also suspicious how every influencer mattress review somehow ends with “best sleep of my life.” Meanwhile normal people online are comparing hip pain patterns like forensic investigators.
