Really? Which mattress? I've had the Original and now the Alpine and find them pretty firm. That being said before the Original (first one I bought), I was using a pillowtop..
I'm a fan of Douglas, just bought a second mattress (upgraded in size when I moved).
I ordered the Douglas Alpine 3 weeks ago, first memory foam ever and I really like it.
We have had both the Endy and Douglas. Prefer the Douglas by far. I used to wake up with lower back pain with the Endy. Haven't had that problem with the Douglas.
We have had the mattress for probably 2 or so years now I think. We got the Alpine version. But I run very hot when I sleep, so I don't notice a difference in cooling. We would buy a Douglas again. Still happy with the purchase.
I have the Douglas Alpine. I have no regrets. Literally the best mattress I’ve ever slept on. Now I’m not someone who grew up with much money so maybe I’m just used to bad mattresses, but my Douglas is not even comparable to any mattress I’ve slept on otherwise. I’m a side sleeper and my partner alternates between back and side and we have no issues. Very well supported and mattress just conforms to me without making me feel like I’m just sinking into the frame. My partner was experiencing terrible back pain before we got it and it’s basically been gone ever since. She had been trying chiropractors, osteopaths and other questionable medical professionals and had no success and she got that mattress and the pain basically went away in a month. The best part for me is there is basically no motion transfer as I’m a very light sleeper. She gets in and out of bed and I can’t feel it anymore. I’m not saying it’s the best mattress in the world, but it’s the best I’ve had.
Douglas sucks real bad unless you like sleeping on a rock... and the customer service is pretty braindead as well so avoid that. Side sleepers... 6', 200lbs... got the Sealy Posturepedic Luxury Lainey model after trying two of the Douglas mattresses (tried my brothers Alpine and actually ordered the Summit). The PLL is a dream! There was a cheaper option in Sleep Country that was pretty good but the feel of this bed STILL amazes me half a year in.
I've been sleeping on a Douglas (Alpine? the upgrade one) and had completely forgotten about that until seeing this post. It's been over a year now. It's extremely comfortable. I love it.
I got to try it out locally first :) I tried the S&F Estate and the DreamStar and could hardly tell the difference between the two. The DreamStar was quite a bit cheaper. We had ordered the Douglas Alpine without trying it and ended up returning it. It was just too firm for me, I experienced shoulder, and across the back pain. We just bought it in August, so time will tell. Ours did come with a 15 year warranty though.
I second the Alpine. We have had ours for just over a year. Huge difference in our sleep quality.
I will add that my MIL just recently stayed at our house for the weekend, she has sciatica so we let her have our bedroom. They are buying a Douglas when they get home.
