I love my dreamcloud one, I had casper a while back and it was giving me backaches.
To be fair, showroom testing can kinda suck depending on how long the beds have been sitting out there and how old/worn out they are. That said, if you wanna narrow it down and take advantage of those sweet sleep trials at home, the new DreamCloud Classic and Premier hybrids are really good for side sleepers (especially if you have hip pain). They also aren't prone to overheating in my experience. Tempur-Pedic and Leesa are good too, but I'd say their foam models are infinitely better than their hybrids. If you're willing to give foam a try, it might be easier on your hips. The Saatva Rx is great for side sleeping, the Classic is a little too firm imo.
I’ve had my Dreamcloud Classic Hybrid for 3 years now, and exclusively sleep on my side. I'm 31F, 165lb, and short. I’ve slept on all locations of the mattress from side to side including flipping it and every spot ends up “wearing out”, dipping at the hips after several months, and causing my hips to hurt while sleeping (not large enough dips for the warranty). I also discovered that my Pottery Barn bedframe has slats positioned 4+ inches apart, so will need to get a Bunky Board or more slats before I get the next one. I LOVE the overall softness balance of this topping of this mattress and its body's general firmness. I want to get a mattress with similar medium to medium-firm feel, and am particular about the topping feeling - I love the gel infused memory foam that’s tufted/quilted (don’t like latex or pure memory foam toppings that are just like a slab of memory foam). Wouldn’t mind cooling properties but it’s not a must. I'm thinking I'll need zoned lumbar support to prevent from the next one wearing out at the middle again. I tried the Sealy Posturepedic Elite Brenham II 15” medium in store and liked it but didn’t like it as much as Dream cloud. I then tried the Dreamcloud Pressuresmart Plush Pillow Top (which is more of a medium) and LOVED it, but feel like I would be crazy to get another Dreamcloud after having issues with this one only 3 years in. Anyone else have a similar predicament and find a good Queen bed replacement, (ideally $2k and under but will entertain higher if it’s spectacular)?
I'm same as you. I got a futon from japanesefutonsfromjapan and it was great. You'll love it. I moved and it got destroyed though at my place and so now I just got an american bed, a hybrid classic dreamcloud. Works fine for me at the moment, though it's only been one week. The futonbedsfromjapan bed on the other hand, i can confirm is good. The only issue with those beds is that you have to dry it out every day, hence why i did not opt for another one. I'm a 'set it and forget it' kinda guy these days. Good luck OP!
I just went through the mattress gauntlet when my back gave up on our old one. A mattress topper bought us a few years but then it was time. We ended up with a dreamcloud hybrid (base model). We’ve had a foam for over 20 years and I wanted the springier feel of our guest bed which has springs, is an old Serta beautyrest or something. Knee between the legs. Supportive neck pillow. I have gotten a few of those weirdly shaped pillows off the internet. They work but don’t last very long (6 months?). I have been milking them for every last drop and then get a new one. Btw, I am a huge believer in PT and mobility. I think anyone can benefit at any time. However, I slept on the guest bed, my back/hips were fine. If I slept on the old bed my back was horrible. PT/stretching, etc was not going to fix that. Sometimes it’s just literally the mattress. I have a WILD story that I was in denial and my back pain was so bad one night it triggered my vaso-vagal response (that’s when someone passes out in response to pain or injury or blood) and I ended up with a concussion. I cannot make this crap up! So we ended up getting a new mattress… 🙈 my back is now up to its normal antics and not make you pass out in the middle of the night spasms antics
a month or so ago, someone on this subreddit told me to look for certain features of a bed that would fit what i needed out of a mattress. i’m gonna give you that exact same advice. stop worrying about the brand names or the stores or whatever else it is. find a mattress that has the type of build that you’re looking for. for me, it was firm, hybrid, thick, and could withstand heavy weight. don’t let this get you down! i did months of research before landing on a bed to buy!
i ended up with the dreamcloud classic hybrid! i couldn’t beat the sale they had going on (899 down from 2399). they use FedEx to ship, but so far that’s my only complaint! i’ve slept fantastically since getting it. but there’s always a honey moon period so i can always come back to this to give an update in a few months!
