Based on 1 year's data from Mar 14, 2026 How it works
Couldn’t make it last weekend but we went today. We tried them all. Actually we settled on a king 12” Classic Hybrid in Extra Firm with a 2” memory topper and we will add a wool cover over it all. We loved how it felt in the showroom. The 4” topper was too much sink in for us. The Comfort Firm edition of the Classic Hybrid was also too soft and too much sink in. We didn’t see the point in the Duo at all really as the different firmness on each side negate the flipability. The Duo Lift is ok but I felt it wouldn’t be best comfort for side sleeping with the minicoil topper and zero foam of any kind. The Duo latex and memory beds were comfy but again, I don’t think we could handle the 4” toppers on any of them. Just too soft and too much sink in.
I just bought the 12” Classic Hybrid extra firm and the 2” memory foam topper from ES today. I also just bought a wool mattress protector from Woolroom this evening. I’ll update once everything arrives and I sleep on all of it a few times.
Well. The verdict is: we love it. The Engineered Sleep 12” Classic Hybrid is firm but the 2” memory foam topper from Engineered Sleep provides the perfect amount of cushion and sink in. The wool protector from Woolroom is the perfect top layer for us; it’s very good quality and nice and cool. We are very happy with the whole set up and would recommend to anyone.

I love engineered sleep. I bought a king 4 years ago and my daughter a full 2 years ago. We love them. Look at the reviews. They are made in the USA.

I got a hybrid from Engineered Sleep. Coils on bottom for the support layer. I asked them to construct a comfort layer of 2” memory foam with 2” latex on top. The memory foam provides good pressure relief and the latex on top prevents the sinking feeling.
I recently replaced a 20 year old tempurpedic with a duo memory plus with adjustable base from engineered sleep. I got the king bed but did the split king base (the sides are coordinated with the remote) to allow for extra weight. (Plus sized sleepers) I did their comfort exchange, swapping out the latex/memory foam topper for another one (2 types of foam that they recommended). The engineered sleep folks are very knowledgeable and helpful if you reach out to them. I am very happy with it.
I suggest checking out engineered sleep. They are super responsive via text and phone and very knowledgeable. They helped me pick the duo memory plus (which comes in 2 parts — coils with sifter and firmer side plus a 2 or 4 inch topper). The bed is design so you can replace the topper without also having to replace the coils. They also offer a comfort exchange if you find you need a different topper and will help you figure out what you really need (I did this). I also have their adjustable base, which I like. I am a plus sized side sleeper.
Check out the duo mattresses from engineered sleep. I have the memory plus (after 20 years of a tempupedic). There is a soft side and a firmer side to the coil base plus a topper (latex and memory foam). When I had the soft side up, I was definitely cradled in the mattress and it felt great. I ended up flipping it (with help—I have a king and it’s heavy) to the firmer side because it was a little too soft for me (plus sized sleeper). The folks there are super helpful and knowledgeable—very responsive to calls/texts. (On the firmer side, the latex had a bit too much pushback for me so they made me a topper with a different foam plus memory foam as a comfort exchange.)
The Big Fig classic is too firm but if you add the microcoil topper, it’s very cozy. Their bases are really solid and can handle extra weight. We have one of those and engineered sleep duo memory plus. If you get an adjustable base that’s not from big fig, make sure to do the weight calculations. For the duo bed in a king, we got 2 xl twin bases to support the weight of the people plus heavy mattress plus our dogs.
Check out Engineered Sleep. They are really responsive and knowledgeable and can help you pick a bed out. I have their Memory Duo plus.
We went with Engineered Sleep Duo with a 4" latex topper, because it's designed for separate toppers and we can change it later where the Sleep on Latex the topper is built in. We really liked that because Talalay is softer and may not last as long as the coils do, also changing out the toppers sounds really helpful for my significant other who some months likes the supportive latex but then wants the sinking in feeling like memory foam gives (health stuff). SleepEZ was also a good one to look at but it has shorter coils (6 vs 8) than SOL does
for me, avoiding foam was key. that included latex. look at woolroom mattresses or some naturepedic mattresses. i have the eos classic latex free and love it. there is also one byu engineered sleep... duo hybrid that has a lot going on but no foam! engineered sleep makes the woolroom matteresses as i understand. no foam=cooler. no foam=longer lasting.
I got the ES Duo, which they don't make anymore, but would be closest to the Latex Plus Duo Cling. I like it a lot.
Check out Engineered Sleep. I have the Classic Hybrid Cushion Firm and it's about an 8 on the firm scale. It's more like a traditional spring mattress than the modern "hybrid" in that it's mostly coils with a couple inches of polyfoam and a soft cotton cover on top. Really high quality and it's flippable (the same on both sides). They also have the Duo mattress that you can swap the comfort layer on. The guys that own and run it are so nice and very helpful. If you give them a call they will get you the right product and might even be able to make some custom adjustments for you. They also have a 100 day trial and are a small business in South Carolina. Great buying experience with them.
My recent birch natural mattress was a disaster. It was so poorly made and it was so annoying to have to pay $100 to dispose of their poorly made mattress, it wasn’t even the correct size! I would avoid them at all costs. We got an engineered sleep mattress (the duo) to replace it with and it’s amazing so far!
I have had quite a few mattress including the Saatva. So after another failed mattress I did some digging and came across Engineered Sleep. I bought the cush firm after seeing positive posts. I’m a side stomach sleeper and always have every mattress fail on hip area. I’m only on third night but woke up with no pain. The mattress is old school flippable, they use a 14 gauge coil and you can tell it’s going to hold for a while. Has a slight bounce when you turn. Scan Reddit you can see what folks say about it.
