+1 for ES Today mattress, great materials for the cost
I got the budget mattress from Engineered Sleep for my rental. Great customer service and they are made right in North Carolina.
I’ve been really happy with the Engineered Sleep Today Mattress. I’ve had it over a year now.
I have an Engineered Sleep mattress I really like.
I am also really happy with Engineered Sleep. It’s firm with good support. Husband and I are side sleepers but we found ourselves sleeping on our back more because it feels great on the spine.
I have been sleeping on a medium firm mattress from engineered sleep. All American made and no smell at all. I’m allergic to everything and it was a God send
Today Mattress by Engineered Sleep Origin Adapt Hybrid Tuft & Needle from Costco (they also have other inexpensive mattresses). Siena foam or hybrid (this is the least expensive of the bunch here).
I don't but I do have a twin all foam in my office as sort of a day bed and it's pretty decent quality for the price. I didn't want to spend much because I just wanted something to lay on and read or have an extra bed for more guests. It's a bit firm but a couple people have slept on it and said it was comfortable. I imagine the hybrid should be pretty good. It does look like it's on the firmer side of medium. You get 6 months to try it out so if you don't like it, you can get your money back. Most places will let you donate to someone you know instead of having it picked up, if you ask. If you can swing the extra for the Today mattress, it's probably worth it because they make great quality stuff and stand behind their products. I have their Classic Hybrid and it's really nice sturdy quality and their customer service is great, and they're a small business in SC. If you call them, you can ask if they have any additional discounts and they can probably help you out. The longevity of it will likely be better than the Siena.
Some brands really do make a noticeable difference. A firm Brooklyn Bedding, Glacier Sleep, Engineered Sleep, or DLX mattress can feel completely different from a firm Amazon, Nectar, DreamCloud, or other imported models, especially those that use lower-quality or lower-density foams. This is where a bit of research and education pays off. It’s not just about how a mattress feels during the first month; it’s about how it performs over time. Mattress build and construction, material quality, foam density, and overall design all influence long-term comfort and support. So, while trying mattresses in-store or taking advantage of trial periods is helpful, understanding what’s inside the mattress can save you from disappointment later. A mattress that maintains its firmness and support over years is worth a little extra attention upfront. Of course to address your question of balancing budget, firmness and comfort may depend on what you consider "budget." Once a budget range is established, age, height and weight along with sleep position, that is when you can move on to an educated way to select your mattress.
Engineered Sleep is great!
I had a Titan Luxe and loved it at first but then the edge support completely gave out in one area and I felt like I was rolling off the bed every night. I was so mad. It was less than 2 years in too! I ended up getting a Comfort Option mattress because the layers can be replaced if they ever wear out. So far I like it but it's only been a year and a half. It uses foam as the base layer so I do expect it to wear out eventually. I'm not sure if I'll replace the layers or go with something else. I found a similar style called Engineered Sleep which combines a removable top layer with coils on the bottom which I think is better for plus size people. I love the idea of only replacing the layers that are worn out though because most of the time the coils are still in excellent shape even when the comfort layers on top are worn. The best mattress I ever owned (and wish I never got rid of) was the *original* Brooklyn Bedding "Best Mattress Ever" which they do NOT make anymore. It had latex layers on top of a high density foam base and it was sturdy AF. It had zero body impressions after like 8 years of use. The only reason I got rid of it was because my husband and I switched to a split king setup. We ended up not liking it (very difficult to snuggle on) and the Titan Luxe was failing anyway so we switched back to a regular king but we had already given away the old mattress.
I did a ton of research and we bought an Engineered Sleep mattress a few weeks ago and love it. I’m out of town right now and cannot wait to get home to it tonight.
