I don't have a tempur pedic but do have a screwed back. My solution, even at home at times, is the Exped Megamat in various sizes. Adjustable firmness, consistent out to the edges.
Me too. Love 'em.
I really didn’t want to spend the money on the Exped Megamat- but I knew I had to at least try it after not being able to find a single bad review about comfort and longevity. Ended up buying it and it’s been worth every cent. Probably a spicy opinion- but the REI Camp Dreamer has identical comfort for a cheaper price, but the reviews of failures scared me away. But once, cry once.
I replaced mine with the Exped Megamat. Cost more than the swag, but worth every dollar.
About 10 years ago I bought the Exped Megamat, and its the greatest thing I have done for camp comfort. It rolls up relatively smaller than your cheapies, and about the same size as the original foam mattress. But if you really care, you could pack the mat separately. I often use the mat outside of the swag as a temp bed, and have slept many nights on it.
Looking for some car camping (sleeping in car) mattress recommendations for occasional trips. I've used one of those tri-fold mattresses in the past. It could be one of those or a regular single mattress. It can't be more than 25” x 75" because that's all the room I have. Ideally it wouldn't sleep too hot because I can't sleep like that. I'm a side sleeper so ideally it's something that won't bottom out and have my hip hitting the floor of the car. I probably need at least 3 inches thick if not 4 in thick. I suppose could always add something like a Thermarest close cell pad under it to give it a little more cushion. I recently bought a 4-in Tri-Fold memory foam mattress from Amazon and it was pretty terrible. I was bottoming out after a couple of hours and I felt pretty hot. Update: I already tried Exped Megamat and while it was super comfortable I had to return it. The problem is while the specification says it's 25.5 in wide, it was actually 27 in wide when I measured it. I just don't have the room for that with the current setup in my car.
I already tried Exped Megamat as it seems like the gold standard for a lot of folks. While it was super comfortable I had to return it. The problem is while the specification says it's 25.5 in wide, it was actually 27 in wide when I measured it. I just don't have the room for that with the current setup in my car. Even 25 in is a tight squeeze. I appreciate the recommendation though.
Yeah, I wrote earlier about using Snuuzu and Exped Megamat (I call it Exo, my mistake). Snuuzu is very expensive but the comfort is definitely extraordinary just like the price is. There isn't something like it. Then a price category lower is Exped, which is also pretty comfortable and I have enjoyed it. And another price category lower comes Havnby. Havnby fits perfectly and I don't need an extra plate near the front seats. It is strong enough! Maybe I can make some photos tomorrow. Personally I do enjoy Havnby more than Exped when it comes down to comfort. Maybe it's the foam or the fit, I am not sure, but it does feel more comfortable. So does the price. I have only been on Exped for a few days, on the Havnby now about a week. However, it does't beat the Snuuzu.
I got the Teraglide Core 60/40 split and the Exped Mega mat.
I don't do overlanding, but forestry/exploration, sleeping in a tent. Megamat was the best purchase Ive ever made. Slept around 500-700 nights on it with zero issues. Super comfortable, hands down better than anything else Ive used.
I am a side sleeper and really like the Exped MegaMat. I have the larger one (for the width, 30 inches), but the regular one is just over 25 inches (I think it's 25.5). If that will work, it's very comfortable
Exped MegaMat is my recommendation. It's 4" thick and the most comfortable mat I've used while camping, comparable to my mattress at home. Side sleeping is no problem with it. It does have a very high r-value which I really like since I camp a lot in cold weather. It's never been too warm for me in the summer though and I sleep pretty warm.
happy with my megamat auto purchase i think the extra space on the sides is more than worth it
