I really like my helix plus and if things happen to it I have gotten full replacements which is amazing as there is more wear and tear being bigger. It is however more of a soft feel mattress which I personally love as I like to feel like I am all nuzzled in. I sit on the edges all the time and after many years it still all holds up and as I said if there is a big sag they have a replacement policy!
If you’re around 280 lbs and mostly sleep on your side, a random “firm” mattress isn’t going to cut it. A lot of them end up throwing your back out of alignment because your shoulders and hips can’t sink in enough. In your case I’d look at the Helix Plus or the Helix Plus Luxe. They’re built for bigger folks, with thicker coils and high-density foams that hold up over time. The Luxe even lets you add the ErgoAlign layer, which gives zoned support and helps with lower back pain. Since they’re hybrids, they run cooler, and the GlacioTex cover actually feels cool to the touch. Fits your budget, and Helix backs it with a limited lifetime warranty, which is pretty rare.
I hear you, it’s tough sorting through all the noise, especially at your weight and as a side sleeper. The Helix Plus mattresses use stronger coils and denser foam to handle more weight and keep your spine aligned, which can really help with aches. The Midnight Luxe is a solid pick from that line. It’s not too soft or too firm, and has good airflow so you don’t get too hot. Plus, the 100-night trial means you can try it risk-free and see if it actually works for you. It’s not perfect for everyone, but for what you described, it’s a smart place to start. Sleep’s important, especially now.
Another vote for helix. We love our firm helix king mattress and we have the cooling gel top.
Yes, same with my helix mattress. It’s not a memory foam mattress, those are hot as other people have said. The cooling gel feels so good that my kid is always climbing on the mattress and laying on it going « ahhhhh refreshing » 😆
I was told by a friend of mine's wife who was in the mattress business for ages, that coil turns is the way you want to go. Meaning it's not only the number of coils themselves, but also the amount of turns in each coil. That being said, I've been sleeping on a helix for a couple years, and couldn't be happier. I found a local dealer, stopped by on some holiday weekend "best sale of the year" type of thing, and the owner beat the the price direct from helix by quite a bit. So don't overlook the little place that offers a bed in a box type of thing.
My helix has the cooling top. I also have a rest evercool comforter paired with it. I don't think the mattress cover is a gimmick. But I would also say to temper your expectations. It's not exactly cold underneath you. But it is cooler than it would be without one. I combined mine with a cooling mattress pad, and I found it to be too cool. The cooling cover on the helix, plus a regular mattress pad is just right for me.
We got just over 9 out of our Helix (with a good foam topper for the last year), so yeah that tracks. Funnily enough, there's no detectable sagging on it. We just kinda started noticing stiff shoulders and lower backs in the mornings. I guess the foam overall started losing support.
I should've went with Casper! We got a helix and absolutely HATE it.
I’ve bought Casper, Tuft & Needle, and Helix. my favorite is the Helix mattress with the Tuft & Needle pillows- but of course every body is different. for me the Helix feels significantly more cooling and supportive but it was also the most expensive of the 3. I like the Tuft & Needle mattress well enough too but compared to the Helix it does sleep slightly hotter and not as much edge support. Some have commented the T&N feels hard but I prefer it! Helix just forms to my spine even more so and I believe does have some springs, so I think that makes it a bit more comfy but I really had no complaints when I only had the T&N
My Helix is 4 years old and still feels brand new. Can’t say the same for the Casper I had before—it sagged within a year.
helix is def a good reco tbh same with Titan Plus luxe
