Helix Sunset Elite: [https://helixsleep.com/products/sunset-elite](https://mattressvoyage.com/helix-sunset-elite) Expensive but it looks and feels luxurious. Ive had mine for years and it still feels like new.
We have one of the new king size Helix elite models from this year (they revamped the design earlier in 2025) and are loving it so far. We tried most of the brands you mentioned in stores and were originally thinking to get a Saatva or Winkbed. Then we tried the Helix Midnight and Sunset Elites and it was a game changer. Noticably more comfortable than any other mattress we tried and definitely better than their more popular (cheaper) midnight luxe model. Sure it cost more, but we wanted to invest in the best.
We got the Sunset since we're side sleepers and pretty light. Midnight was really good too, but personally preferred a little softer.
Hello all, I recently bought a Helix Midnight Elite mattress, and while overall I like it, it has an issue that many mattresses have for me. The issue is that the space between my waist and the mattress is not completely filled when I'm laying on my side. My hips are particularly wide vs. my waist (for the women reading this, even many "curvy" jeans leave me with a gap in the waistband!) so I need something with peak body conforming abilities I think. I know a softer mattress is is usually recommended for this, but when I tried the softer Helix Sunset Elite mattress in the store, I felt like I was laying on a slope where my shoulders were lower than my hips. I assume this is due to the zoned coils. So I'm looking for suggestions/specific recs - should I: 1. Get a soft mattress topper? If so, recs? 2. Buy a lumbar support pillow? If so, recs? 3. Start over, return the mattress and get a different one.
I think the insert would be your best first step. One of the benefits of the Elite mattresses is you can just swap out the insert for a softer feel. I agree with the other comment about trying the Sunset Elite insert. In my experience, that is super soft. I also agree with the Nolah Evolution Plush being a good option but, if you find the Midnight Elite to be too firm, the WinkBed Soft will probably be too firm for you (it wasn't super soft in my experience).
This is my 3rd mattress and think we are keeping it. Helix Elite Sunset. It's the softest but not too soft. It is specifically for side sleepers although we sleep on back most of the time. We tried the Midnight version (middle of the road) and too hard. I also tried Brooklyn Bedding Thermobalance Elite in soft which I liked and Puffy which was too hard. It's alittle pricey but I like that the inside is replaceable so I figured I could buy a new inside and keep the mattress when it's time
I bought a helix elite sunset, been almost 3 months. Between that and the sleeptone pillow I got I have no more hip shoulder or neck pain. But I agree that you need to go to a store that has them and try them out
Yes, I got mine as a floor model though
Have the helix elite sunset for 3 months and very happy, had a sealy luxury firm before so I thought I wanted a firmer mattress, turns out there is no industry standard for firmness and the soft was what I found the most comfortable. Really happy with my decision, also love the fact you can unzip and replace the foam layer if you aren’t satisfied with the firmness instead of having to replace the whole mattress. Hope this is helpful
Ok, I have a helix elite sunset, from sealy luxury firm, I thought I wanted a med firm mattress and found the sunset to be what I would consider on the firmer side. Been sleeping on it for 3 months and have nothing bad to say about it, except it can be to cool, I’m probably in the minority on that one, but I’m sure come summertime I’ll love it, I really like the idea of being able to change the memory foam layer and that was the biggest reasons I went with helix, also look into the sleeptone cool control side sleeper pillow, I have never slept so well in my life. Hope this helps
I have the sunset as a side and stomach sleeper for 2 months now and couldn’t be happier, I thought from other brands in the past I was a medium to firm guy, but the sundown is incredibly comfortable
The Elite line is a great choice. Helix uses the best foams in the industry on this line and also includes their best coil system. On top of that, this line has a fully encased swappable comfort layer that you can change without having to change the whole mattress. You could try the moonlight or sunset as both are soft the only difference would be the order of the foams in the comfort layers to better support back vs side sleepers. Great mattress line in the Elite series...
Helix Elite series are great.
3Z brands out of Arizona make good mattresses for bed in a box options. The Helix Elite series is outstanding and can be had in all the different comfort feels. As well it has a fully encased comfort layer under the removable cover that can be swapped out without replacing the whole mattress. Has the standard 15 year warranty and then a prorated limited lifetime warranty. It is available to try at local brick and mortar stores, you just have to find them. I have three within a one hour drive that all had the luxe and elite series mattresses on the floor. They are a bit more expensive than some of the other brands made by the same company and it's due to the superior foams (higher density). If I was to buy a 3Z brands mattress it would probably be the Helix Elite.
Why have you not contacted Helix directly! You can swap that encased comfort layer under the zipper (Best Part of Elite Series!). Ask them to send you a "Twilight" comfort layer. The Helix Elite use some of the densest foams around so longevity should be good.
The local retailers that carry helix here (not the big stores but the smaller ones) will give you the sleep trial but under their conditions. For instance one I visited yesterday will allow you to exchange the mattress for anything in the store. Also inventory to "try" is limited. He had two luxes, and one elite. I am driving 2 hours today just so I can lay on a Helix Twilight Elite, because all the other one had was a Midnight Elite. As for the big brands, they are still valid. Sealy Pro and Elite lines have their best coil support system and are good...all the comfort options as well. The Sealy Elite Firm Quilt Top is still in my top 5. I tried the Casper's and Nectars and eliminated them right away. Also eliminated Tempur right away. Eliminated Puffy as well. Eliminated Dreamcloud as well. Interestingly in the one store yesterday they had Diamond Mattress there and their Black Diamond Firm Quilt top was very nice and is now in my top 5. I was shocked as it looks and feels like a Helix Elite series for less money. As for foundations I am considering many...either platform like Xplat, Knickerbocker Platform 360, or the awesome SD Indestruct or traditional foundations like the Big fig one or the Beloit Heavy Duty (lots of slats) or the Terra. Even if I buy more mattresses down the line, I want to do a one and done on the foundation. See if you can find a Diamond Mattress retailer near you...I was really surprised.
I ended up with the Diamond Mattress Black Diamond. I am early into my 120 night trial. It looks and feels very high quality and is heavy. It is a bit firmer than we remembered but might loosen up. If I do an exchange it will be the Helix Twilight Elite which has a swappable encased comfort layer consisting of two foam layers and micro coils. I still think that is the best but wanted to save some money...lol.
2023: helix sunset. this company is a total scam. they even changed their warranty after i purchased the mattress, and insist on using the new warranty terms instead of the terms that were published at time of purchase 2024: leesa legend from costco 2025: novaform comfort grande from costco all three beds do the same thing. sleep comfy for about 8 months, then start sagging in the middle from 2013 to 2023 i slept on a no-name inner spring with a topper from amazon, and it was absolutely amazing right up until the very end, and then it developed an indent. 6'1", 205 lbs. 50% side sleeper, 30% back, 20% stomach. any reason why i shouldn't just buy a super firm king and put a very high quality latex topper on it?
helix's warranty at the time i bought the mattress was there needs to be a 1" indent in order to be accepted as a return. there is not a 1" indent, it might only be 1/2" or so, but i can't continue sleeping on it to intentionally create a 1" indent without having terrible back pain. on top of that, they changed the warranty after i bought it so that it now needs to have a 1.5" indent, and while that new warranty wouldn't apply to me, it's indicative that they are not interested in making returns easier. you also have to ship the mattress back at your own cost, which could cost 300-500 bucks, and they still have the right to deny it, at which point you're out shipping costs. if they did deny, and you want to fight it, you'd have to pay to have the mattress shipped back to you on top of that, if i had tried any one of these three mattresses in person, i would have loved them. the issue is not that they weren't comfortable at first. the issue is i had half a year of great comfort, followed by a material failure and subsequent back pain. but every single one of these mattresses would have felt great in the store.
