This is so true.
We just had to replace out 10 year old Serta, which was great until it wasn't.
Went out and spent $3700 on a kingdowns (extra firm) it was horrific. Felt like sleeping on cement.
We are allowed one exchange so we got an equivalent one but Beautyrest. It's better but I am still waking up in pain every day.
Stuck with it now for a few years atleast.
I just bought a Kingsdown crown imperial mattress. It checks all my boxes for (hopefully) longevity with a hybrid coil/foam/latex construction. For breathability they incorporate Joma wool and alpaca hair layers as well so it doesn’t sleep so hot.
When I laid on it couldn’t believe the way it kept me in perfect alignment. I tried some purple mattresses too and I felt like my hips sunk in too much.
I’m still waiting for delivery though. I can’t wait because my old memory foam has the hump in the middle and downsloped sides these days. (It’s 8 years old)
I’m hoping they’re still doing the best they can do. We bought the “crown imperial Wesley”. It’s a hybrid of coils, foam, Dunlop latex, along with Joma wool and alpaca hair for breathability in the eurotop plush layer.
I've had my Kingsdown latex and foam mattress for at least 12 years. There is an indent where we sleep now, but it's still extremely comfortable. I bought it on a whim because it was on clearance and it's the best purchase I've ever made. It's insanely heavy and has no carry spots; it took 3 adults struggling to carry it when we moved. That's my only gripe!
I've been very happy with Kingsdown, which you can also get at Sleep Country among other chains. It's also Canadian, along with a bunch of other manufacturers that've been listed here
We are currently replacing two Kingsdown mattresses - one is twenty years old and one is twenty five years old. They were warriors and I don’t regret the purchases. I have no idea how they are made these days but they were made very well when we bought them.
