Personally, I like something that's soft while being supporting since I always get mild back pain when I don't sleep in my own bed. So I have a ko⁀ala plus mattress for my specific needs. On the other hand some people like a firmer sleeping surface so they'd go for an option with a harder foam. It all depends on how you sleep

Comfy is a subjective concept. Me and my wife have completely different ideas on what comfy is. She likes soft I like firm. Ikea usually has their mattresses set up, so worth checking it out and having a lie down on them. We both run pretty hot though, so the memory foam style mattresses were awful for us(we had a koala), though they were comfy when they didn't set us on fire.

I considered getting an Ecosa (friend's recommendation) but the online reviews were terrible! It really put me off. I consistently saw people say they're too soft/weak at the edges. If this is the case, it might not be well suited to a heavier person. Just something to consider, OP. I don't have to account for some of the issues you've raised, OP, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt but I got a Koala mattress a couple of years ago and sleep really well on it. It's a medium/firm which thankfully isn't too firm as I get tight muscles and can't sleep on anything too hard. But it's definitely not a soft mattress either. I dare say it's 'just right'. Edit: Somebody else here said they're 150kg and didn't like Koala as a bigger person, so might not be suited to you. Best of luck OP, and good work on the weight loss. It's no easy task.

Firm koala mattress is pretty firm. It actually got too firm for me and I flipped it over to the medium firm side instead.

Koala (queen) from Marketplace- about $200. They are super comfortable. We have three in our house 2 queen and 1 king single. Purchased all secondhand but very clean. Easy to transport in the back of an SUV.
