Not sure what size of mattress you’re looking for, but I got my latex hybrid mattress from Latex Mattress Factory for just under $1k. They throw in 2 pillows as well. There’s two sister companies, SleepEZ and Latex Mattress Factory, both have a number of options. The customer service is really helpful if you email them asking for recommendations, I ended up with the Latex Mattress Factory hybrid because I thought the latex foam being Talalay would be more plus than the Dunlop from SleepEZ.
By the way - their mattresses have no fiberglass, I double checked. The flame retardant properties come from their pillow top filling being wool. And the cover is organic cotton if that’s something you care about. IMO a very overlooked brand when it comes to this subreddit, but the Mattress Underground forums love them!
We built our own mattress! In the past we had 12" of latex in a wool enclosure, but we recently rebuilt the mattress with coiled springs and 6" of latex. We're really pleased with it and got the mattress we wanted at a better price than a traditional one. [https://latexmattressfactory.com](https://latexmattressfactory.com)
I use the luxerion hybrid mattress from latex mattress factory. The cover is organic cotton and there’s a wool topper. I believe the latex is entirely natural. The bed is the most comfortable bed I’ve ever owned and the price was extremely reasonable at $800 for a full sized one. Zero regrets.
We got the hybrid one from the latex mattress factory and it's alright, much better than most mattresses I've had but i also had never bought a more expensive one before.
I agree with grumpy town. We got a luxerion hybrid from latex mattress factory and it's pretty nice and not too expensive. They also have a full latex option with different firmness levels. The latex is the go too now, the springy nature of it is awesome. I suggest trying one out if you can find one to lay on. I live in bfe West Texas so I just took a gamble, don't regret it though.
I would avoid all of those brands for latex options. Awara is made in China, Avocado is over priced, Birch is just another big name brand. SleepEZ, Sleep on Latex, latex mattress factory, My Green Mattress, and Naturepedic (on the higher end) are good places to start. There's tons of info on Reddit about latex mattresses. One thing to note is that latex is inherently firmer than other materials (like memory or polyfoam) so as side sleepers, you may find just the mattress to be too firm for side sleeping and will likely need an additional topper. If you can find a store near you that carries latex mattresses, I would definitely go and give them a try. If not, the brands I listed above typically have trial periods (My Green Mattress offers a one year trial). Sleep on latex and SleepEZ have excellent customer service. SleepEZ has a layered latex mattress that allows you to choose your formation and you can rearrange or swap the layers. Also, to add: as a side sleeper, I have found that talalay latex is more comfortable as a top layer than dunlop. Latex Mattress Factory Luxerion Hybrid uses talalay and with SleepEZ you can choose it as the top layer.
I know that LMF doesnt recommend the Luxerion Hybrid for those over 230 because the soft talalay is too soft to be supportive though you can change it to a different firmness for 100 bucks. I did this and changed it to a med talalay and so far its been pretty comfy but its only been a couple of weeks.
For me id say it feels like a med firm. talalay is a little more contouring than dunlop so the same firmness in that may feel a little different. I'm about 220ish at my heaviest and find it a little too firm at the moment to sleep on my side for prolonged periods of time. I assume it will soften up a bit the longer i use it. But for back sleeping it is very suppirtive and i dont feel like im bottoming it out.
I’ve purchased from SleepEZ the Organic Latex Mattress and the Select Sleep Hybrid, I really like the mattress’ and the service they’ve provided me. The latter mattress does have better edge support if lying down but they’re both fine for sitting. The latter also sleeps cooler but the former is fine so long as you don’t lie in bed for more than just sleeping; both sleep cooler than some foam mattresses I’ve tried. If you don’t need a split firmness latex mattress then you can also consider their sister company [Latex Mattress Factory](https://latexmattressfactory.com/products/luxerion-latex-mattress?variant=13093999476789), some have mentioned contacting them to see if they could use Talalay in the comfort layer if that’s something you’d be interested in. For hybrids that I haven’t tried but you can consider contacting for more information: LMF [Hybrid](https://latexmattressfactory.com/products/luxerion-hybrid-latex-mattress?variant=42673548853301) which isn’t double sided like SleepEZ’s offerings but does use Talalay in the comfort layer; the Engineered Sleep [Duo Latex](https://engineeredsleep.com/products/duo-latex-mattress?variant=19634129862743) is within budget with a 10% code and the company has been great to deal with so far. For the hybrids from SleepEZ/LMF I believe they recommend those above 230lbs not to purchase so you’re still within range but I recommend contacting them, as well as any company you’re considering purchasing from - it’s in their interest and yours to sell you something you won’t want to return. I haven’t used Sleep On Latex but I haven’t considered them since their medium latex layer is what others sell as firm but they do appear to be great to deal with.
Got a king sized mattress from Latex Mattress Factory. Been about a year and rock solid
