Same here, I also ended up using a hybrid from Luff Sleep, and it’s been solid for me too. I’m mostly a side sleeper and it cushions my shoulders without letting my hips sink. That balance was the biggest difference compared to foam. It also sleeps noticeably cooler.
You’re definitely overdue for a new one, 20 years is a solid run. If you’re trying not to spend a fortune, I’d be a bit careful with the cheapest mattress-in-a-box options. They’re convenient, but a lot of the very budget all-foam ones (Warehouse/Mocka level) tend to sag pretty quickly, especially for a main bed you use every night. A good middle ground is a hybrid mattress. A bit of foam for comfort, but they usually last longer and feel more proper. I’m using a Luff Sleep hybrid and while it’s more than the absolute budget brands, it was way better value long-term for us and came with a long trial, which made buying online less stressful. For kids’ or guest beds, Mocka or similar is usually fine. For your main queen, I’d spend a bit more if you can, even mid-range will feel life-changing
I ended up on a hybrid from Luff Sleep for the same reasons because it has good airflow, responsive springs (so movement feels like elastic), and no overly thick foam layers. It’s not futuristic, but that’s kind of the point. It’s built to comfort rather than impress like decoration.
