[this one](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/naturepedic-organic-breathable-2-stage-crib-mattress/5568622?color=Natural)! can't speak to a smell as i never noticed one!

One thing that helped me when I was shopping: a lot of brands say “GOTS organic cotton” but that can just mean the fabric or an ingredient. That’s different from the finished mattress being GOTS certified, which is the one that actually covers the whole product and how it’s made. The wording is confusing on purpose sometimes. On comfort (since that’s the other half of this): we make a few different feels/price points. If you’re unsure on firmness, the EOS line is modular so you can swap layers after you’ve slept on it for a bit instead of being stuck. If you want a more straightforward innerspring without the modular setup, we’ve got those too. Across the lineup we use the same set of third-party certifications: GOTS, GOLS, GREENGUARD Gold, and MADE SAFE. Re: smell/air quality — GREENGUARD Gold is the one that’s directly about emissions, so it’s a good filter if “new mattress smell” is a concern. Whether you personally notice a difference depends on how sensitive you are, but it’s at least a real test/standard vs vague “clean/natural” marketing. If you want the nerdy breakdown of what “organic mattress” actually means in certification terms, this is the clearest explainer we’ve got: [https://www.naturepedic.com/blog/what-is-an-organic-mattress](https://www.naturepedic.com/blog/what-is-an-organic-mattress)

Since you mentioned eczema, you may want to go with a Naturpedic. We got one for our baby's crib because we learned about how harmful the VOCs from most mattresses are. Its made from organic cotton with no polyurethane foam.  They have larger kids and adult mattresses. I recommend going with a firm mattress to be as safe as possible. Some of the reviews on Amazon mention the kids mattress isn't comfy, but idk if the adults mattresses are too soft. I don't have a large mattress, I'm also researching a safer mattress for cosleeping.

We had the naturpedic for a crib mattress. I know they are supposed to be very firm but it was so hard and I wonder if that’s why he didn’t sleep well in his crib. We got a full size Avocado a couple months ago for a floor bed so we can Co sleep and it’s very nice! I will say it felt too soft for the first couple days and we were worried. But it firmed up as it aired out. Now it’s very comfortable. He has been sleeping very wonderfully on it, too.

I am getting Naturepedic but I prioritize things like natural fibers, no PFAs, etc. Naturepedic and Avocado are the main options in the “crunchy” category. Otherwise I think Ikea has some cheap cribs & mattresses.

We have naturepedic crib mattresses for our babies + a happsy queen mattress for us. We are very happy with both. Happsy is cheaper and owned by naturepedic. They don’t make baby mattresses though.

Nice! Thanks for the response. We use a Naturpedic crib and twin mattress for our kids. Not perfect, but very close and expensive enough. We still need to replace our mattress. We bought it before we went crunchy and money wise I wasn’t going to buy a replacement for a 1 year old mattress. It’s definitely mid level tox wise.

We bought Naturpedic after our first kid (didn’t know about toxins then). We also bought a mattress protector made from natural stuff (I think sugar cane?). We now have a twin and a crib mattress from Naturpedic and have been happy with them. Since they are pricey, buy what you can afford, whether from them or another company. They do have frequent sales.
