I'll throw this out since the 2 of you have different comfort preferences... naturepedic eos classic let's you split left and right within the mattress, under a unified encasement. also since you mentioned for and plush I'll throw this out there... I have my eos configured with their latex free config which subs the latex for microcoils... I wouldn't say it's firm and plush, but it's supportive and plush. and very cool sleeping. problem is is it blows your budget. mine is almost 8 years old (and still feels like new) and was $3500 back then, so it has surely gone up, though I haven't looked at prices since then. that said, they have the usual sales, and every once in a while I've seen additional discounts popping up on my Amex offers and PayPal offers. that said, at 8byears old and still feeling like new,I fully expect it to be a 20 year mattress,at which point, the cost per year starts dropping safely into your budget. I doubt their latex configs would be 20 year mattress, but with the all spring ones there's no reason it won't keep like new for decades if you don't otherwise fuck things up. if you're of the diy mindset, you can easily do a split config under a unified cover/encasement. there are also other manufacturers that make split comfort mattresses, but I can't speak to any of them. the beauty of the eos or a diy is the ability to adjust or replace components down the road if anything needs changing or replacements. if you go the diy route, there is tons of resources here. if know what you like and you nail it or you're not that that fussy, you have the potential of building a great mattress at a considerable savings. if you fuck it up, that margin of savings diminishes quickly if you need to start tweaking things.
for me, avoiding foam was key. that included latex. look at woolroom mattresses or some naturepedic mattresses. i have the eos classic latex free and love it. there is also one byu engineered sleep... duo hybrid that has a lot going on but no foam! engineered sleep makes the woolroom matteresses as i understand. no foam=cooler. no foam=longer lasting.
only if you have more money than sense. if you're of average or lower BMI, your weight won't transfer through 6" of foam to the support coils. that said, I'm not a mattress expert, that's just my experience and observation. but with my logic your basically just buying a foam mattress, the coils may as well not even be there.
yeah, I have a naturepedic eos with microcoils over coils. my point to them is that the pillowtop version of the eos doesn't make sense to me from a functional standpoint. the pillowtop version has 6 inches of latex or microcoils on top of the support coils. unless you are very large and curvy, the 6 inches of foam or microcoils isn't gonna transfer much to the support coils.
naturepedic eos classic. not only does it come compressed and rolled, but it's in components. you have your encasement... the cotton and wool cover with a giant brass zipper that holds it all together. then inside goes the support coils on the bottom and latex or microcoils as the comfort layer on top. for a king, both the support layer and comfort layer pieces are split, so if you moved, you could just disassemble it all and take each piece down the stairs. the component design also mallows you to tweak the feel during the first 90 days for free during their layer swap period. I have the no latex version which subs microcoils for the typical latex and love it.
I'm a fan of the eos classic. not so much a fan of the pillowtop. the pillowtop seems excessive and the amount of foam and quilting between you and the springs seems like it would make it near impossible to see any benefit from the springs. seems like they make it for for people that just want to spend more money just for the sake of spending more money because of one layer is good, two layer must be better. unless you're very heavy and curvy, I don't think the pillowtop is a better mattress than the classic. I love my classic. 8+ years and still feels like new.
You can get the EOS classic in a latex free version that uses micro coils for the comfort layer instead. Also engineered sleep has the Duo Lift that also has a replaceable comfort layer of micro coils for over $1000 less. While the ES isn't wholly certified organic the mattress cover is made of organic cotton and the entire mattress is all natural materials. Edit: I would like to add though that in addition to being wholly organic, the Naturepedic does offer free comfort layer exchanges during it's 100 night trial if you find the mattress you ordered isn't to your liking and the comfort levels range from plush to firm. The ES just has a flippable base that offers slightly firmer or slightly softer while the comfort layer remains the same.

I got this mattress 12 years ago. Still holding strong. I'm an overweight 63 old gal. [https://www.naturepedic.com/eos-classic-latex-free-organic-mattress-buy](https://www.naturepedic.com/eos-classic-latex-free-organic-mattress-buy)
Naturepedic is FANTASTIC but hecka expensive. I swear by them. If you are going to DIY and just need the coil and coil topper, I recommend [https://pocketspringstore.com/](https://pocketspringstore.com/) and then get an organic cotton quilted encasement from Arizona Premium Mattress online.
❤️ my Naturpedic! I did the mini coils as I don’t like latex. Best bed I’ve ever purchased.
Second night update: plush on plush seems good to me. I'll update in a few weeks First night on the EOS Naturepedic Organic latex free. This is support coils and microcoils, no foam or latex. The bed is on a good wood slat foundation with narrow gaps and center support. My husband is on "cushion firm" which is firm coils and plush microcoils. He slept great. He's 6'5, 220, side sleeper. My side is medium, which is plush support coils and medium microcoils. It was wayyyyy too firm for me. I'm 6'1, 190, curvy, side sleeper sometimes back but only if there's sag space for my hips. I occasionally have major, catastrophic back pain and can have hip, shoulder, and neck pain from firm beds. Last night left me stiff and sore. Tonight I will steal his plush microcoils and see if "plush" works for me. There is nothing plusher after that unless I try latex and foam, which I don't want as I'm a hot sleeper. So far, I'm kind of bummed. I'll report back tomorrow. The best bed I ever slept on was at an 8 week airbnb stay in Germany. It was a cheap ikea slat frame with a 5" innerspring mattress. I regret not checking the tags to that mattress. Edit: we couldn't try in a store as there aren't any nearby.
Very happy with the EOS classic; 3" firm latex over 8" firm coils. ~ $2,700.00 on sale. Super comfortable.
I just got this same mattress in the same firmness levels and also on sale 😆. I love it so far, very comfortable, except that the latex sleeps hot and I might have to switch to the micro coils, have you had this issue at all? I’ve had a memory foam mattress before that felt the same, amd the most recent mattress I had was an all cotton filled shikibuton. That was the coolest sleep I ever had but the mattress was just too hard. I miss the coolness of it 😭
Take a look at Naturepedic Classic EOS. You can do split sides. They are really high quality beds and have great customer service. He can even get just all coils - support coils and microcoils with no latex if he wants. Aside from the sciatica, anyone who sleeps on their stomach needs a firm mattress or they will end up with back pain because with a soft med, their back will hammock.
The best mattress, Naturepedic. My spouse and I had a horror contamination event when we removed the mattress cover from our cheap Amazon mattress and fiberglass just exploded everywhere 😫 it even said the zipped mattress cover was removable and washable...no warning the inside was covered with fiberglass threads that contaminated everything in our bedroom. We had to throw out everything including bed frame and furniture. It was just impossible to remove. We were in a rental and end of our lease. Luckily our landlord was sympathetic, he was planning to sell anyway (panic sell during COVID) and he planned a gut renovation anyway (very old apartment). So when we bought our current home we were looking for just natural, GOTS, chemical, synthetic free, but still high end mattress to last us years and years with great customer service. I somehow came across Naturepedic. They are made by the Amish, only have natural and organic materials (metal coils, latex, rubber, organic cotton, organic wool), zero chemicals, zero flame retardants, zero toxic glues or adhesives etc. We went to the store and tried several of their beds, there were only a couple models. We went with the cheapest EOS classic, 4300 for call King. When we bought it, there was a deal and it included a free Cali King sheet set, mattress protector, and king pillows. It is amazing. Best sleep of my life, going on 5 years!!!! The mattress part is switchable. I might switch my side to the next firmness level. We have medium firm. I like a slightly firmer even tho the current firmness works, I just want to switch it up. Our Cali king is a split so my spouse will keep his side as is. It's about 550$ for new firmness mattress part. You get two, so I'll switch my side and have a backup that also will work as a great extra bed for when we have lots of guests, since we have 2 guest bedrooms but sometimes need more beds if having a party and want people to stay the night so they don't need to drive. Anyway just my two cents! They do a trial also for 100 days. We never had issues either. If there's a store near you or even a bit of a drive it's worth it imo.
We have a naturepedic EOS classic, and it checks all these boxes and more! The first night my wife and I laid on it we literally said to each other that it felt like a hotel bed. I definitely recommend checking out naturepedic, they are best in class, and the bed is fully customizable.
Had this same exact issue over the last few months! I'm 6'5" 210lbs and everything would just sag and felt like it had no support. My wife and I recently found Naturepedic and ordered their EOS Classic and man, this mattress has hit the nail on the head for us. All of the comfort layers are fully customizable and you can swap them out in your 100 day sleep trial to get dialed in! Highly recommend you check them out!
