It depends if you are primarily a side sleeper, back sleeper or stomach sleeper and your body mass. If you are a primary back sleeper then you will need a firmer mattress. Same for a stomach sleeper you, will need firmness for proper hip alignment & support. If you are a side sleeper like me (and big & tall) you will want a medium or medium firm mattress with some memory foam or other plush “top” to help with pressure relief on your hips & shoulders. The heavier you are, the balance of firmness/plushness will be important for support. You don’t want too soft of a mattress as that won’t provide enough support. It’s all about pressure relief and support and it’s all very personal. A smaller/lighter person won’t “sink in” to a softer mattress as much as a larger/heavier person will so that may be perfectly fine for you. For me, I’m a big and tall side sleeper and a week ago, took delivery of a nectar classic hybrid mattress. For me, it’s been a perfect balance of pressure relief and support. I was previously sleeping on a very firm traditional innerspring mattress and was having shoulder/hip pain the last year or so. I had back surgery about a year and a half ago and turned into a side sleeper but used to be a back sleeper and the firmer mattress used to be perfect for me. My body changed so now my sleep needs/comfort changed as well. If you can, go to a mattress store like “Mattress Firm” and try several different types of mattresses. Personally, I like the hybrid mattresses for that “zoned support”. Pure foam mattresses aren’t comfortable for me.
One review I saw advised to get a firmer mattress than you think and you can always ad a mattress topper to it but a good firm base will last longer. The nature of memory foam is it degrades over time. That’s ultimately why I decided to get a nectar Classic hybrid. It only has 1 inch of memory foam. If it turns out too firm for me, I’ll get a topper or if it’s just right and in a few years the foam degrades, I can get a topper.
Marten, I’ve seen so many of your videos on YouTube in the last month for Mattress Clarity. I started researching mattresses after seeing an ad for nectar around Martin Luther King Jr Day. I pulled the trigger last weekend and ordered a nectar Classic Hybrid. I prefer a firmer mattress and your videos (and others) helped me make that decision. I was able to go into a store a few weeks back and lay on some memory foam and hybrid mattresses (unfortunately they had no nectar’s on display). I had also considered the DreamCloud but to me with the euro pillow top it reminds me of a traditional mattress and I’m actually looking forward to the “feel” of the memory foam, which the DreamCloud seems to lack. My current mattress is pretty firm and 25+ years old traditional Simmons BeautyRest innerspring mattress. My nectar was delivered yesterday afternoon and I also decided to spring (no pun intended) for an adjustable base too. I should be setting up the new sleep system this weekend. I’m looking forward trying it out. I’m a bigger guy (6’4” and 300+ lbs. looking forward to the adjustable base more I think. I really do appreciate the videos and reviews your organization puts out on YouTube. I also looked a little at your website.
So far so good. I’ve slept on it 3 nights now and it’s been great. I used the adjustable base for the first time last night in “zero gravity” mode and slept like a baby. Something of note; when I ordered my Classic Hybrid, there was an option to add a higher level of “cooling cover” for $179 on the nectar site. I almost wonder if Mattress Clarity can note those options in your next video when you present nectar products. Something along the lines of nectar may offer to upgrade the cover material to a higher cooling level for an additional charge. That being said, I’ve found no issues with being too hot with this mattress so far. But it is winter time and I’m in Ohio so let’s see how it feels this summer when it’s 75° and 95% humidity at night. I’m very happy with my purchase for sure though.
Nectar split king adjustable base. Not sure of your budget but depending on mattress selection you are looking at customized comfort for between $2,900 and $5,400 depending on the mattress level you select. If you prefer medium-firm then the classic hybrid is a great choice, that is what I went with (in a queen size). It’s really comfortable for me but some people prefer softer mattresses and those are more expensive with their top tier “ultra” mattress split king with dual adjustable base being the most expensive at about $5,400 for the full setup before tax. I’ve had my nectar mattress for a week and I’m very impressed so far. If you prefer the firmer mattresses, I thing $3,100 or so out the door is not bad for the full setup before up. However, your needs are personal. https://www.nectarsleep.com
I’m a big guy, 6’4” and 300lbs +; I got a nectar Classic hybrid 2 weeks ago (I also sprang for the premier adjustable base) which was about $1,600 total with tax for the whole package. I’m really impressed with my sleep so far. I’m a side sleeper normally and my previous mattress was very firm old innerspring mattress. The foam top especially the memory foam really does take the pressure off. I was debating on whether or not to get the premier hybrid but was afraid that would be too soft for me or I would “fall” into the mattress too much. I decided on the classic since it is on the firmer side. I figured if I needed to go softer I could just exchange for the premier (as nectar allows 1 exchange on their 365 sleep trial). Another recommendation I saw said that you can add a topper to the mattress if the memory foam starts to lose its resilience over time. Things I read said it’s better to add a topper to a firmer mattress than to add one to a softer one. That being said, I’ve actually slept really good using the adjustable base on my back. I had back surgery about a year and a half ago so I’ve had back problems but the adjustable base really cradles me. There have been a few nights where I have slept right through the night to my alarm without waking up once. I usually get up once or twice at night to urinate (I’m over 40 and take some medication which can cause fluids to pass quicker at night). I highly recommend nectar. However, comfort is a very personal and subjective thing. I did over one month of research before popping on getting the nectar with their President’s Day sale. I even tried to go onto a Mattress Firm to lay on one but my local store didn’t have any on display. They steered me toward a Temperpedic or Sealy hybrid. It was $4,000 to $5,000 for the Queen size set up I needed (with adjustable base). I had never been on a memory foam bed before so I wanted to see how it felt. I will say, the medium Temperpedic hybrid mattress was the most comfortable I had been on in my life but the price is ridiculous. If you are near a store that has them, I would try to see how’d you can lay on the mattress to test it out. If you are a side sleeper, lay on the side for a good 10 minutes so your body can adjust to the mattress and the mattress to your body. Try to stop the salesperson from gabbing in your ear the whole time too. They will keep talking to you and believe it or not you actually need to concentrate. Happy hunting.
I own the Nectar classic as my main mattress along with the Nectar pillows. I also have a generic foam mattress off of Amazon in one of my guest rooms. I'm very happy with my mattress and while I don't sleep in the guest room, the guests always say it gives them a good night's sleep too.
Hey There! I'd Like to offer a couple more recommendations based on our testing for you to consider. The most of affordable of which would be the all foam Nectar Classic, It comes in as a Medium-Firm making it ideal for heavier side sleepers, you'll sink pretty far into this mattress and It contours your body very closely as well, which helps with pressure relief and leads to a feeling of being tightly hugged and cradled If that's what you like! It has great motion isolation, so if your partner moves around a lot, you'll only feel the larger movements and even then they'll dissipate quickly. It offers decent enough cooling that as long as you're not an overly hot sleeper it should keep you comfortable. A few Issues to note would be the only passable edge support and the use of mostly lower quality foams, meaning some sagging or indentations could appear faster than a higher quality mattress. Second up, I'd like you to consider the Dreamcloud Classic Hybrid mattress. It's a is medium-plush, making it ideal for light to average side sleepers. Unlike the previous recommendation this mattress only has a moderate level of sinking and the surface doesn't contour your body very closely, so you feel cushioned and cradled, but not tightly hugged. This mattress also has excellent edge support thanks to the additional support coils found on each side. It also does a good job of isolating motion, while you feel most movements nearby, they stay close to the source and don't travel very much throughout the mattress and once again they'll dissipate quickly so its unlikely to wake you. This mattress is very responsive which means you'll be able to move around and change sleeping positions with ease. It does a very good job at cooling, even if it does take a little while for the cooling performance to ramp up. But just like the last mattress, you'll have to keep an eye on sagging and indentations as its mostly comprised of lower quality foams. Lastly, If you could stretch your budget slightly I'd recommend the Boring Mattress, this Hybrid mattress receives medium firmness rating based on our testing and is best suited to average-sized and heavier side sleepers. You sink fairly deeply into the Boring Mattress, and it contours your body pretty closely, too, leading to a feeling of being cradled and hugged, but not completely enveloped. This mattress once again has superb responsiveness making it a breeze to move around in. The Boring has excellent motion isolation such that you'll only ever feel larger movements and even then they dissipate quickly. The mattress provides excellent edge support. You can sit or lie near the edge without worrying about slipping off, thanks to the additional polyfoam built into the sides. The Boring Mattress provides the best cooling of the 3 recommendations providing enough performance for even hot sleepers. And great news here at the end, This mattress uses higher quality foams so you should expect it to outlast the 2 other mattresses on this list. Feel free to reach out with any other questions and I'd be happy to help you in any way I can. Good luck and have fun mattress shopping!
Same, Nectar Classic. King for $1000 three years ago (cheaper now for Black Friday). Depending on your bed frame, you don't necessarily need a box spring. Super good about movement isolation - I toss and turn and it used to drive my wife nuts on our old bed. This one you can hardly feel somebody else moving around. I think what sold me versus any number of the other foam mattress companies in the same price range is Nectar has the 365 day guarantee. Some others had as little as 30 days. Sleep on it for up to a year and decide it isn't for you, you can get a refund.
I think mine was 3500 but with the discount like 2000. It was a king hybrid from nectar.
Do: Check FB Marketplace or local shops, measure your space (NYC buildings can be tricky), and look for delivery/setup options. Don’t: Buy used mattresses unless you're 100% sure bedbugs aren’t worth the risk. Nectar Hybrid’s a solid pick if you go new comfy, ships easy, and not crazy expensive.
I use a Nectar hybrid mattress that uses springs and memory foam, love the feel as it is soft and firm.. hard to describe, lol it is definitely soft but it is sturdy also And is also an adjustable bed. I recently had surgery on my upper neck and I LOVE this bed!! It is amazingly comfy and you can adjust it so much, it reclines, sits up, elevates feet, etc. Well worth it!
I really like my nectar hybrid. Ive had it for a year now
I have a Nectar hybrid and I love it
