The coolest mattress I've tried is the nest owl which is latex

The owl was very comfortable but my hips didn't like latex

We got the Owl mattress by Nest Bedding a couple years ago and I still love it! It has different firmness levels in the latex foam insert for each side and you get a free replacement of that insert since that's what gets worn out before the springs underneath. We also co slept on it for a while. I highly suggest finding a store where you can try out the mattresses. Natural and non toxic is important but if it's not a great mattress then you're getting less sleep and more guilt wanting to replace it lol

Quite by accident. My wife and I got married and needed a new mattress in 2014. I ended up doing a ton of research, had a terrible in-store experience, and bought a mattress online. That first mattress we liked, but it wasn't amazing, so we returned it and then I bought another bed online. It was better so we kept that one. As a fun weekend hobby project I built a website and wrote reviews for those 2 mattresses that I had tried. People really love the reviews and asked me to test other mattresses. So I kept ordering mattresses, testing them, and then writing reviews. It quickly blew up, was getting a ton of traffic, and within a few months I was able to leave my full time job and started my career as a professional mattress tester. My salary is whatever money is left over after I paid for all of the company's expenses, including payroll for my employees. I've been doing this for 12 years, so it seems sustainable to me. I greatly enjoy what I do, get to work with friends and family, and do something that helps people. Really it's a dream job to me.

The first 120 mattresses we tested my wife and just had sex on the mattress a few times over the course of a week. I would document those experiences and use them to determine our sex score. Our more recent 438+ mattress tests use more objective and quantifiable data. Our sex score is a simple equation where we look at 5 different factors. Each factor is given a specific weight based on how important we think that factor is for most people. Our sex equation considers bounce (65%), sitting edge support (20%), pressure relief (5%), cooling (5%), and noise (5%). Bounce is the most important, representing 65% of the score. You can see more about our testing and scoring process for sex here - [https://naplab.com/how-we-test-mattresses/#h-sex](https://naplab.com/how-we-test-mattresses/#h-sex)

Winkbed, Saatva Classic, Leesa Sapira (in that order). You can see every mattress ranked by overall score here - [https://naplab.com/mattress-comparisons/](https://naplab.com/mattress-comparisons/) \- this tool also lets you sort and filter a ton of options. As far as mattresses I haven't tested yet, definitely. I have a big list of mattresses that I'd still like to test. Many are relatively newer models that I just haven't had the chance to get to yet. Some are super expensive ($10K) that I just haven't been able to justify the purchase of yet. If money is no object I really like the Helix Midnight Elite. It's got arguably the best cooling cover on the market today. Mattress brands are always changing, though typically more gradually and over many years. Unfortunately, I don't have the complete historical data on the oldest Tempurpedic models to compare to the newer models. That said, it's reasonable to think that foam formulations have changed over time and foam densities have likely lowered over time (especially in Tempurpedic's less expensive models). Decreasing foam densities is something we've seen from many other brands as well, so I think it's a reasonable guess to make here as well. Those changes may be beneficial to some sleepers, while at the same time causing them to be worse for others (like yourself).

A solid, above average performer. Major drawbacks include higher motion and weaker edge support. Full review here - [https://naplab.com/mattress-reviews/nest-bedding-owl-review/](https://naplab.com/mattress-reviews/nest-bedding-owl-review/)

My wife and I are about 2 weeks into our Nest Owl medium and so far so good. It's the newer version with 8" coils. There was a showroom store with several online brands to try out and this one won for us. We did like the Avocado as well, but felt like you're paying a premium for the brand. Came down to the Owl and Helix Midnight Elite, but it was approximately $1300 more and didn't feel like there was 1300 more of additional comfort. I'm 5'10" and she's 5'3" and both less than 175 lbs, so similar stats as you. I'm a side sleeper mostly and she's some back, but mostly side too. At first, was thinking I wanted all latex, but think going hybrid with springs was the right move. Might be worth checking out SleepEZ hybrid too. Best advice is to go to stores and try them out if possible. Good luck!

I’ve had the Nest Bedding organic cotton hybrid latex mattress for 8 years, and it’s wonderful. Great for side sleeping. There used to be a Nest Bedding showroom in SF but I’m seeing that it’s closed, and the closest location is Chico. I do think it’s helpful to try mattresses in person if you can…

Check out the nest owl latex hybrid. You can do a split king with different firmness on each side. It's very comfortable. I tried it in store and loved it. I have one being delivered this week for one of my rooms. They also offer 365 day trial and a comfort exchange you can use once throughout the life of the mattress. (Replace the top layer of foam). DLX also offers split sides. They have a 100 day trial I believe?

I have a Leesa Legend Chill in my primary bedroom and after a few weeks I really love it. I wasn't sure at first because it seemed a tad firm, but it's softened up now and it's very comfortable and plush and doesn't sleep hot. In one of my guest rooms, I have a Nest Owl, and it's a latex hybrid and it's also very comfortable. I have a medium and it's more on the medium firm side because it's latex, but it is also softening. It sleeps cool. They have a one year trial period and they also include a one time comfort layer exchange for life. The top of the mattress unzips and you can either change the firmness or just get a new layer if it needs replacing in the future. If you're having issues with sagging, I would definitely make sure you have a solid base and not a box spring or those bowed slats. Mattresses these days are heavy and need really strong solid support. Also, make sure to get a mattress protector to make sure you don't void any warranties in the future.

You both might benefit from an internal split king (one mattress but the top comfort layer is split inside). DLX hybrid is one (they also have a latex hybrid). Nest also makes a memory foam (Nest Sparrow) or a latex (Nest Owl). These are nice because the quilted top unzips and the comfort layer can be exchanged or replaced down the road and you can each dial in the exact comfort and support that you need. You can even put memory foam on one side and latex on the other. There are options which is great. I have a Nest Owl in medium in one room and it's very comfortable. I've tried all the Winkbeds in store and I feel like they are just meh. I don't like the materials they use. The luxury firm is pretty firm and you will almost definitely find it too firm as a lightweight side sleeper. I'm shorter and heavier than you and I thought it was like a brick with a quilted top. The soft version was much more comfortable but your partner will find it to be too soft. In another room, I have an Engineered Sleep Classic Hybrid Cushion Firm and a 3in medium talalay topper and it's very supportive with cushion for side sleeping. They also have the Sleep Duo (I think that's the name) where you get the base and choose the top comfort layer which can be replaced in the future without having to replace the whole mattress. They are a small business and have excellent customer service. They're so nice! They even invited me to come to the factory next time I'm in town and they would give me a tour. With that said, buying in store is almost more of a crap shoot than finding something online that would suit you. You can try them in store and still not like it when you actually sleep on it and you're stuck paying fees and you still have to use the credit to buy something from the same store where you may not have liked anything else. If you buy online, you get to try it and the majority of brands allow free returns, so there's little to no risk. There are also showrooms around that carry the most popular online brands to try out in person before you order them (check your area).

I'm currently 5 nights into sleeping on the Leesa Sapira Chill in medium firmness and I'm really liking it. I'm a side and stomach sleeper and feel well supported in both positions. The first night it was a bit soft but after about 24 hours of expanding it firms up a good bit. It doesn't feel "chill" but it does not sleep hot either, very temperature neutral. (And I'm using a waterproof protector and still haven't slept hot). I've tried several mattresses in the past year and so far, this has been my favorite. It's a tad firmer than I would normally like right now, but I know that it'll soften up over time. Each night keeps getting better so far. It's a very well built mattress and doesn't seem like it comes it a box once it's fully expanded. My son even commented on how sturdy it was when we were rearranging the room because it's not all floppy like some other mattresses. But with any mattress you get, you really need to give it a solid month to break in and get used to it and see how much it breaks in/you get used to it, or if it's really not for you. Make sure you go with a company with a good return policy. The brick and mortar stores usually charge a restock fee and often make you exchange for another mattress they sell. Leesa customer service has also been great to work with. I also have a Nest Owl in my guest room that is very comfortable. It's a latex hybrid and you can replace the latex insert one time for free for life should it wear out or you want to change firmness. You can also do a split internal king (each side is a different firmness) if you find you each prefer something different. They just upgraded their coils too which is an excellent upgrade.

Hmm, I like both. The Nest is nice because you can replace the insert down the line and the comfort layer is typically the first to wear out, so there is potential for more longevity and they have a 365 day trial period (Leesa is 120 days). Latex does feel different than memory or poly foam as it's more buoyant. Some people don't like latex, others love it. I prefer the Leesa for myself because of the stronger coils for the lumbar support because I'm short and a little chubby so I needed the extra support in my middle section. I also like the hug of the poly/memory foam better. But I also sleep in the guestroom on occasion and sleep great there too. Naplab does a good job of breaking down the different mattresses if you want to take a closer look. (Idk if he's done an updated one for the new Nest coils but otherwise the mattress is the same). I think either is a good choice. You might be able to find a store near you that carries one or both - there are stores that have the online mattresses in the showroom. Sleepare, Sandman Sleep, Yawnder, are some that I know of but it's all dependent on where you live.

I say go with the Nest. It's a great mattress and the new coils make it even better.

Sleep on latex would be a great option for a mostly stomach sleeper, however, latex is a totally different feel than other mattresses, especially a full latex. I bought a medium and it's still very firm, so I would go with the medium option to give yourself some pressure relief. If you buy the mattress, after you receive it they will sell you a topper for 50% off (you pay full price if you buy it with the mattress). If you get it, don't skip getting the luxury knit cover for 50% off as well. It's really soft and protects the latex and makes it easier to grab and move around. Definitely worth the $50! You may find that you don't even need the topper if you like the medium. It's a really beautiful mattress and the company is great to work with. I ended up returning it because i missed the feel of the coils and it was super easy. But honestly, now that I'm on a different mattress that I don't love, I kinda wish I would've stuck it out with the SOL and tried some other toppers. (I'm a short chubby side sleeper and it wasn't enough pressure relief). I say it's a safe bet for you and it's risk free. Give them a call and discuss options, they're great people! P.S. It's CRAZY heavy, so make sure you either have someone really strong to help you, or look into their premium delivery options (FedEx will bring it into your house and set it up). Avocado has a huge markup and people complain about it after a few years. There are so many better and less expensive latex options out there. If you like the Avocado, and want to go hybrid, look into the Natural Escape from My Green Mattress. They have their showroom near me and it's very comparable to an Avocado and nice hand tufting. They have a 365 day trial and they're a small local business. It's a really nice medium firm mattress. Their topper is also really nice and has the same trial period. I would steer clear of Nectar (made in China) and a lot of people complain about them. TLDR; Give latex a try over memory foam. Lots of subs here about the various options but my comments above are all from personal experience. If you have any questions, I'm hyper fixated on mattresses and toppers right now and have tried and researched several so feel free to ask!

FWIW the return was really easy and they just sent someone to pick it up. They refunded me as soon as I scheduled the pick up. I tried the Nest Owl in store the other day and really liked it. But it's on the pricier side so I decided to sort of mimic it with what I currently have (a firm spring mattress with minimal polyfoam comfort layer). So I bought a 3in talalay topper and a wool mattress pad. (The owl uses this for comfort and top layer). I'm waiting on them now. If this doesn't work, I'll probably just bite the bullet and give the owl a go.

No barn smell. It's hard to explain but there's a light, natural smell. Definitely not offensive, it was almost pleasant to me. And any smell that it did have wasn't crazy loud and didn't hang around long. I'm mostly a side sleeper but also sleep on my stomach throughout the night. I'm a 42F and I'm curvy so I carry a lot of weight in my hips and I have hip bursitis so I have super sensitive pressure points and the SOL didn't have enough give and I freaked out prematurely (looking back now) and returned it. I wish I would've tried a couple more toppers first though because I really did love it. I do think for a man of your size, as a mostly stomach sleeper you would likely find it comfortable once you adjust to the latex. As a stomach sleeper with a larger chest, I didn't have enough sink for my boobs tbh but I was comfortable on my stomach otherwise. And I agree about the simple construction. That's kinda why I decided on a basic firm coil mattress, to create a solid base and then decide on toppers. I almost went the DIY route, but decided to get a real mattress as the base instead. Jury is still out on this though until I get the new toppers. I really wish I would've just kept the SOL though. 😅🥲
