I'm only been using it for a couple of nights, but I'm a side sleeper and the Purple Renew is treating me pretty well.
Mattresses that are good for you will most likely depend. Your sleeping position, weight and most importantly preference matters. Mattress types also change the feel and also have different advantages (inner spring, memory foam, hybrid, latex). You can go down a rabbit hole. (I'm looking at you The mattress underground) Your best bet is to go to a mattress store and try a bunch of different mattresses. As for recs, $1k is in the low end for a really quality mattress but will probably be great for your five years of law school. I would avoid S brand mattresses, but if you find a great deal then it's fine as well. Based on what you told me, the Novaform Comfort Grande is a great place to start. The 3Z mattress companies I've heard are great from reviews in terms of premium mattresses that aren't overly expensive. I bought a mattress this year and ended up with a Leesa Legend as a heavy side sleeper for under $1k. I trust naplab because I was sampling a purple renew and their take on it was spot on (do not buy for side sleeper) before I returned it. Purple was the most cooling mattress I've slept on though and if I splurged I would have found a model for me probably. If you have access to a Navy exchange the winkbeds seem like a phenomenal deal. Pillows are another rabbit hole. Anyway, hope I got you started on your mattress journey. (The Novaform probably is a great one size fit all go in blind mattress).
I'm in the same boat as a side sleeper with hip pain. I tried a few mattresses over the last two years and the one the helped my hips was a Purple Renew from Costco. I'm very happy with it!
So I'm 185 lbs and a side sleeper. I have medical issues that give me lower back and terrible hip pain. The only mattress I found that soothed my hip pain was the Purple Renew mattress from Costco. I love it! I paired it with a Member's Mark adjustable base from Sam's Club who also has a great return policy. I got this adjustable base in queen size on sale for $500 at the time of my purchase... I watched countless YouTube videos and read this forum obsessively trying to find what would work for me. I also went to various local stores, Mattress Firm etc and tried everything. I purchased 3 different mattress (Sealy, Serta, and Nectar) that I trialed and they didn't work out. Good luck!
As a side sleeper with lower back and hip pain (sciatica) I tried various mattresses from Sealy, Serta, and Nectar. The only mattress that soothed my hip pain, and that I could live with, was a Purple Renew mattress that I purchased from Costco. I tried 3 models in Purple Restore line locally and while I liked those as well I didn't want to take a chance on them and return issues so that's why I purchased online from Costco. Try something from Purple locally in person and see what you think. I love mine!
I bought a Purple Renew mattress from Costco and I love it! But, you have to get what YOU like.
You can get a Purple Renew Queen for $999 from Costco, Black Friday sale price. I'd give that a try. You can always send it back if you don't like it, but I think you will.
Agree, recently got a purple from Costco, the grid gel they use is such a unique feel, highly recommend.
Tossing in my 2 cents on what to avoid. I bought a full size Purple mattress and within 3 years it developed a 1 inch sag. Their warranty sucks too.
Full size Purple mattress. It was a little over $2000. It's been 2.5 years and it's been good. My only problem is my sleep position. I'd wake up with sore shoulders because I'm a side sleeper.
I did try it! My girlfriend hated it so I didn’t get it but honestly thought it was pretty comfy
