We currently have a Purple Restore Hybrid, Cal-King, on an adjustable, Tempurpedic base. It was fantastic for about a year and a half, but my husband and I are both waking up with lower back pain now. We've both noticed feeling better while on trips this year, so we're assuming it's the mattress. It FEELS comfortable, we sleep well - but each morning, same issue. A lot of recommendations have involved a split king set up, which doesn't work for us (I tend to sleep in the middle). Chiropractor recommended sleep number, but I'm worried about the middle not being comfortable. 5'1 - 130lbs & 6', 180-200lbs. Primarily side sleepers, he sleeps on back occasionally. I don't know where to start, when the mattress that feels comfortable actually seems to be causing issues. We're willing to spend what we need to spend to not have problems - what do you suggest?
Same! Ive been buying 300$ mattresses from Amazon. It's always a gamble, my old one wasn't bad but started sagging after like 4 years. So I bought a new one, it sucked. I went to check out mattresses and loved the purple restore hybrid 11.5. Bit expensive but I went with it. There was only one other bed at the store that I thought was nice, I don't recall the brand but it was very similar in price and feel. I believe it also was a polymer or silicone mattress.
I was in the same boat as you for the past month. I'm a hot sleeper from 100°+ desert in Texas. I had my heart set on a sealy with "cooling". But after going to mattress firm to go lay on some mattresses, we very unexpectedly ended up enjoying a purple mattress, which I did not expect at all. I just got it, and have had two nights on it so far. And it just seems different. I ended up ordering a "purple restore hybrid" from the website. I'm not a purple fan boy by any means, but let me tell you some of the positive feelings I didn't expect. First it feels different, in that you feel like you are laying above the mattress, rather then "in" the mattress. It feels like a thousand little hands are just holding you up. You don't sink in. And that also feels like it helps as far as "cooling" it doesn't feel like anything at all, it doesn't feel cool or cold, but it never feels hot either, it feels like nothing, and it stays that way all night. The second almost magic thing, is as a side and back sleeper, usually sleeping on my side absolutely wrecks my shoulder and neck. But on the purple I can just do it with no problem at all! Sleeping on your side feels really different on this thing. The third and last thing I'll say, is that the whole bed has a springy bouncy feel to it. It feels like you almost pop out of bed when you get out of it in the morning. But the bouncy-ness is also pretty great when it comes to "extra curricular activities" as opposed to most foam mattresses these days, that absorb everything, and almost feels like you have to put in double effort, and have to fight the mattress. I managed to get a good memorial day sale, I had originally wanted a king. Then before the sale, i was getting discouraged by all the crazy high price tags I had been staring at all month. So I had already talked myself into settling for a queen. But then when the sale hit, essentially the king size price is the same as the queen price. So you save a ton by going with the king. Also if you do the sign up for email and text, you get a "150 gift" coupon. Which I used to buy a $130 purple seat cushion for free. I ended up going through the purple website. But the main thing about mattress firm, is they have a exclusive version of the purple mattress. Which I think is exactly like the one I ended up buying, but it has "cooling threads" on top. And it's about $300 more. I figure I'm going to put a mattress protector on it anyway. So I saved the $300 and went direct with purple. But I ended up buying an expensive cooling mattress protector for $300 anyway from Amazon. Also I have a sister who had gotten a purple like 5 years ago. And had recommended it to me. But I ignored her at the time, because I didn't want to fall into hype, and I wasn't sold on the idea. And I checked with her to see if she ended up still liking it, after all this time. And she still had no complaints. I know I rambled on forever, thank you for anyone who made it this far. Just wanted to give my observations and experience since I was the same boat as many of you. Including the fact that no matter what mattress you search, you will mostly find bad reviews about it.
Purple has a 10 year Warranty so your current mattress did its job. I previously had a Serta Hybrid that had really bad off-gassing and I couldn't sleep on it for a couple of weeks. It was lovely to sleep on until it wasn't. It was dead after 4 years. I'm not a large person. It also was very hot to sleep on.
I'm also extremely sensitive to scents. Just purchased a Purple Restore Cool Touch, no scent issues. Slept on it the first night. When I purchased the hybrid mattress and couldn't sleep on it for weeks, I had to keep the bedroom door shut due to the toxic scent. Bedroom windows were open, fan in the window to suck the scent out and had to sleep elsewhere. It ended up being very comfortable, but like I said, after 4 years it was dead which is unacceptable. Good luck on your search. The Purple is interesting. It's not a decadent bed by any means, but I had that and it didn't last. Bedding in the last 15 or so years is just overpriced junk. I honestly would prefer an old regular mattress that can be flipped along with really old metal bed springs that never die. They squeeked, but were great.
We got the Restore. Not sure if that’s different but it’s a good in between of firm and soft
I like a firm/cool mattress & got the purple hybrid 2nd hand (like new, just unboxed) for $600 ~5 years ago and it has been awesome, but it’s definitely not for everyone.
