I was just thinking of your other post about the terrible smell from your Casper mattress and how similar to your experience mine was with a Saatva memory foam hybrid mattress….except I only lasted 36 hours with my awful smelling mattress before calling Saatva and demanding it be removed asap. I give Saatva credit: their delivery partner still had my old mattress they removed when they delivered the new one and within 24 hours, they had removed the stinky mattress and had my old mattress back so I had something to sleep on while they rushed production on a latex hybrid mattress. They also waived the $99 return fee. I just received my new mattress last Friday and there was a very light smell upon arrival but that dissipated in less than 24 hours. Saatva does have some physical stores in some cities.
Saatva memory foam hybrid, I have one and it checks all those boxes. They have standalone stores in most large cities so definitely test it out first before buying.
Cooling systems treat the symptom, not the disease. Mattresses run hot because of super thick foam layers and deep sinkage into those layers. The thicker the mattress and the deeper your body sinks into it, the hotter it will be. I'd generally advise people try a thinner mattress that breathes better before buying a cooling system. I had a 16" Puffy Monarch that was super comfy but it ran hot due to 8" of soft foam and deep sinkage. I was close to buying a cooling system but decided to try a thinner mattress. I recently got a Saatva memory foam hybrid and it's been amazing, I'm even able to set my thermostat a couple degrees higher and use a comforter. It's only 11.5" but it's been comfy for me, I'm a 180lb side sleeper. Haven't had a single night where I woke up sweating, and it's already 100 degrees where I live. Sure it's not as plush as those thicker mattresses, but if heat is your main issue then less is more.
I really liked my Saatva Classic Luxury Firm, but my husband hated it. However, the first one we were shipped was defective. And he wanted to try out the Memory Foam hybrid and the Plush, and both were defective (I have pictures, so you can see on the pictures, it is very obvious). I am worried to even try the Saatva again for fear that it would break down early due to the fact that 3 of the mattresses Saatva sent were defective. I hope you post an update after a year or two. Thank you!
The memory foam hybrid was only 9.5 inches thick and same problem with plush, but it also was bent. I don’t know how to add pictures to this post, but I do have them.
I bought a hybrid latex + spring mattress from Avocado (lol) - other brands make them. I found traditional spring mattresses tend to create pressure points for me, particularly for hips and low back. Memory foam is too soft and unsupportive and I feel like I'm drowning in it (and it's very hot, IME), straight latex is very heavy and kind of unmanageable as well as slightly too firm by itself. I did not get my mattress with the built in squishy topper because I didn't want to yeet all my standard size sheets, and I regret it - post back surgery I feel it's a little too firm for me (standard firmness for my mattress is 'medium-firm' which is good for belly sleepers, my partner is one). My back does feel supported laying on my stomach but I'm a G cup so no surface is going to accomodate that. Saatva also makes hybrid mattresses with either memory foam or latex - personally I hate memory foam so I would never consider it, but Saatva was a top contender when I bought my last mattress, and I did go test one before I bought it. Ultimately Avocado was slightly cheaper and had a better warranty period/return policy, though obv. I kept mine.
One thing to keep in mind: the mattress isn’t the whole story. The frame, foundation, and even your pillow matter more than people realize. I thought my mattress was failing me, but really it was my old sagging box spring. Once I upgraded to a platform bed and a better pillow, my sleep improved even before swapping mattresses. When I did finally get a Saatva hybrid, it was the final puzzle piece.
Been sleeping like a baby on my saatva hybrid
