I used Satava but I don't think it's bay area
I got my mattress online. Itās a Satvaa and itās so so luxurious. I travel a lot for work and my bed is 1000x better than even the best 5 star hotels. Free delivery and return policy too.
I bought a latex mattress built on coil base and am very happy. And relieved, because I previously had a Saatva that I returned under their 1-year guarantee. The Saatva was not firm enough but this one is perfect. I got it at a local store (European Sleepworks) that only delivers in the Bay Area, but other companies make similar ones.
Had a Saatva for a couple years and couldnāt wait to get rid of it. Also upgraded to a S&F. My only qualm with the newer ones is the blue color! I tend to always use white sheets, and the blue color can be seen through them which Iām not a fan of
So, we sat and tried to compose a list of year/make/model/ what went wrong. Not so easy. My spouse is correct it was 6 beds in 14 years to be exact. Memory foam failure is the #1 reason for having to get rid of each bed. Approximately $16k spent. Sealy, Stearns Foster Avocado, Saatva, Tempur Pedic and 1 more (can't recall brand). Within the 1st 18 months there's always the start of the breakdown, like you feel that its not the same, then come the dips that become valleys and turning is no longer easy. All while complaining "another one bites the dust /is this really happening again/ wtf, all that money, its got to last longer than this." We're done. We should have been done years ago. Latex.
Iām the same and sleep on my side because of sleep apnea. I bought a Saatva mattress almost 2 years ago and itās been great. I liked they had a retail store to try the mattresses. As good as online shopping is, I believe that things that go between you and the ground (like mattresses and shoes) need to be tried in person. Also, remember any new mattress will feel odd for a short while when you make a change and you get used to it. I forget exactly, but they had a generous return policy.
I bought a Saatva 4 years ago and its still as comfortable as when l bought it. Never skimp on anything that goes between you and the ground (mattresses, shoes, tires). Edit to add: Iām a side sleeper. Pillow is important too.
Iāll echo experience with Saatva and Tempur-pedic. I bought the former during Covid and it has done me quite well. In my case, the firmest possible option. That said, when I moved a year and a half ago, I kept that mattress and itās frame in my master bedroom. But the new house also has a loft space which, taking a queue from the previous owner, I moved a bed up there as well. In this case, I bought a Tempur-pedic. Reason being that they have a new model that also has a lumbar support that is basically just a bar that can push up the middle section of the bed as well as the traditional head in foot. Having tried that in their store, I was pretty sure that that frame was a super superior option for my own quirky body. Of course, it could still use a Saatva mattress, but I went ahead and got the combination. I have no regrets and find myself sleeping on that bed in the loft far more often. That extra support correct for my biggest problem in that other adjustable bed, which was my first ever. And thatās the feeling that my lower back was sinking into the bed when I was not in a level position. Now, I can adjust the lumbar. Iāve never found a particular setting that works⦠But what really works is being able to adjust it on the fly as pain creeps in. Just being able to modulate makes an enormous difference. Also, as a side sleeper, I find that having the bed level, but that lumbar support pushed up to some degree, or another really helps to sort of mitigate the flexibility of my spine. Nevertheless, these are all very individual things. On the plus side of Tempur-pedic and purple and sleep number⦠These are all available to try in stores. I highly recommend going to your local mall ā which is where I was able to find a store that, I believe, sold all three. And just politely ask him if you can lie down there for a few hours. Bring your phone or a book or whatever and be prepared to feel like a museum peace as children walk by wondering what is wrong with you that youāre lying down in the store⦠But you can learn a lot more by lying down on each side for a half hour and on your back for another half hour then what any sales person can tell you or any Review online can tell you. I canāt tell you how close I was to buying a sleep number. In fact, if I couldāve put a sleep number mattress on the Tempur-pedic frame, I think I wouldāve had the ultimate option for mitigating my own never-ending pain. Sadly, that wasnāt compatible⦠So I flipped the coin in what I believe is the correct direction. But only your spine can know for sure. And thatās so hard to explain outside of a forum like this. Just do your best to see what works for you and then hope that that choice bears fruit⦠Iām sure we all have some pretty rough stories about making a very careful, thoughtful, and heavily research choice that we were even able to test ourselves⦠Only to find that within a month or two or 10 we discover that it was a great effort⦠But still not as much as we hoped would help us cope through the night. Good luck with whatever you choose.
As someone whoās pored over the lawsuits against Saatva, avocado, etc., Iām not 100% anytning is fully nontoxic. There are unintentional and incidental PFAS everywhere. For me personally my approach is harm reduction and GreenGuard fold, certiPUR are my bare minimum. Oeko tek, madesafe,GOL/GOTS are good, too but those mattresses were way above our price range. If price is nonissue , naturepedic and birch are alternatives. I did not like avocado or birch- too bouncy. We went with Saatva.
