Went today and tested some beds out. My favorite was the Beautyrest black ultra firm. Sales guy said it was a series 1 or something like that. I like the ultra firm feel, like the sealy posture pedic plus ultra firm, but like the better feel and seemingly higher quality of the Beautyrest black. It feels like there’s the right amount of cushion on top of the Beautyrest so it still feels supportive to my upper back and shoulder posture issues, but it doesn’t feel like I’m on the floor. And my girlfriend will probably appreciate the cushion a little more too.
But, I’ve seen a ton of nectar ads, and I’ve see. That a lot of people recommend the Saatva firm instead. I do like Saatva’s 365 day trial so I can just send it back if it sucks or I picked wrong. Thoughts anyone?
Yes it does! With the posturepedic plus I like the feeling on my back, but even though it’s cheap I worry that when I have someone over for the night they’ll hate it, or worse, I’ll hate it when I roll onto anything other than my back. I didn’t like it nearly as much on my side or stomach when I tried it. On my stomach it felt like it was pushing on my lower ribs in an uncomfortable way.
We are on an old watered frame with osb covering the frame.
We have an old Sealy extra firm king size box spring and mattress.
We really liked the set up. But it's about 10 years past it's lifespan.
Do you have any recommendations for what to buy and/or where?
Bought a Sealy Posturepedic Plus about 4 years ago and love(d) it until we noticed some sagging last year. It’s unfortunately gotten worse no matter how many times we’ve rotated it. Hubby and I are light weights and we travel about half the year so we estimate 50% the normal usage? Lets hope their warranty is fair. Our friends bought Casper around the same time and they’ve had no issues. I read that if you buy it online they will pick up for free if needed, so maybe consider online.
Yeah man, I hear that. I’ve been having problems from an overloaded delivery route for the last 10 years. I returned a firm Sealy posturpedic plus a while back, the previous model to these newer ones. And I’ve tried and returned countless mattresses over these years with no success. I’m in the process of trying to get layers for an all foam DIY.
Whatever it is it needs to be soft. This might be one of those scenarios where all the high density foams they talk about in this subreddit might be too dense for you to even imprint reasonably, so might be better off with a lower end version of something than the mid or high end (like a Sealy Posturepedic Plus instead of the Pro or Elite lines, for a less dense foam and skipping the extra lumbar support). Otherwise if you're going higher end probably something with some sort of fluffy wool or cotton pillow top.
I definitely agree with the head boss of this subreddit though, that the best thing anyone can do before buying a mattress is going to one of those big mattress stores to actually try some stuff and see what you actually like. And if you find something you love for the right price, then you don't have to worry about mattresses anymore.
