My latex bed arrived in January. I looked and investigated for a long time. My post is here somewhere. Latex for Less is great. But when you want to flip it, you'll go harder or softer. I took it off my list. Then I was going to buy the Roma from SleepEZ, but really did not want a 9 inch mattress. I like a high profile bed and big mattress. So...hybrids. I really dont like springs. Hybrids don't last as long. Back to SleepEZ. I really dug in and examined every product they make. I bought the Natural. (They also make a slightly more organic option for a slight premium). The main reason? The latex comes in layers that are designed by your height and weight. I really plan on this being the last bed we purchase, and I want it to be perfect. The layers can be exchanged to custom fit the sleeper. The original top layer was too firm for me. I called the company and I received a replacement in 3 days. They were easy to work with, very professional and the quality is top notch. The warranty is crazy long, the lifespan is 15 to 20 years. My husband is happy and should I decide I want less firm or more firm, I call the company for a $30 exchange. I'm a consumer, I dont work for this company. But I'll sit all day and write reviews for this company because I've had enough getting ripped off, buying crappy products that are made to look good, only to fail in 18 months. The amount of money we've spent in the last 10 years on mattresses is staggering. Mattress buying is hard. It shouldn't be. SleepEZ was the answer for us. The layers make the bed customizable and durable.
Im going in to edit my post. My apologies. My husband and I were discussing this as I was typing. I mixed it all up. We bought SleepEZ. Not Sleep on Latex. Sleep EZ was as described above. They have a phenomenal product. The biggest reason for our choice is the build able mattress. It took 2 of us 20 minutes to put it together. The layers can be swapped, as I explained above. We are both side sleepers, I'm short, he's tall, different weights, he likes a firm bed. I hate a firm bed. I need support, but soft. If for some reason I need a more firm mattress, I can call them and do a layer exchange. Thats the beautiful part! SleepEZ went above and beyond to listen and make the best recommendation for what we wanted and needed. Latex mattress factory is one of SleepEZ's companies. *Edited for typos and dumb mistakes.
I modified. I originally thought a medium top Dunlop layer would be good, but I was wrong. After a couple weeks, I called the company and we figured out that I'd need a top layer of medium Talalay. Talalay is not included in The Natural 13". It is in The Organic. Talalay costs more. So it was straightened out and the result is the best sleep ever.
My side is ex firm on bottom, firm, medium (all Dunlop) and medium Talalay on top. Its a 13" mattress. It is organic. The Organic choice is as well, but you're paying for the certification. Choices.
I had all Dunlop. The top medium layer was too firm. I switched for a layer of Talalay. Its heaven.
Buy a natural latex mattress. Stop playing with crappy memory foam. Its garbage and full of nasty chemicals. SleepEZ has amazing quality latex
My last temperpedic was garbage. At 2 years it had hills and valleys. God, I was horrified at how much money we spent in the last 10 years on mattresses. Problem solved. We bought a latex mattress. 13" king from SleepEZ. The Natural was 2250. The Organic was 2550. They are customizable and there's a 20 year (for real) warranty. Got a dip or a divot? They send you another layer and they pay for you to send the other back. No off gassing, no formaldehyde or chemicals. You can get Talalay layers for the "sinking" feeling . Call SleepEZ customer service, tell them your height/weight and preferred squishiness. Good luck.
Maybe its time to re think memory foam. Its crap, and the quality has only gotten worse since covid. Look into latex. You wont have to return it, its customizable. SleepEZ, Sleep on Latex, Latex for Less, Latex Mattress Factory. No off gassing, totally natural product, no b.s. Or buy one of the ones you mentioned, and in 2 years you'll be back here looking for another mattress. How do I know? I bought all of those, spent a fortune and was mad as hell every time they wouldn't honor their warranties. I FINALLY talked my husband into going the latex route. No more problems. We're set for the next 20 years. Good luck. Choose wisely. The struggle is real.
My SleepEZ mattress is mostly Dunlop. I returned the top layer for a Talalay layer. (That's the greatest thing about these beds...they are 100% customizable.) My husband's side is very firm. He loves it. My side is now perfect and we've got a 20 year warranty. Got a divot or a sag? Call the company and they'll exchange a layer. Its that easy. Im done spending a fortune only to have the memory foam fail in less than 2 years. Side note: My mom had a latex bed around 1950. It became mine in the 60's. I used it till 1989. That same mattress is now sitting in a spare room in New England.
Latex. SleepEZ sells literally a block of pure latex, you stack them up from firm to soft to make your bed. Whole thing is encased in zippable cotton / wool covering.
The covering? Other than the zipper yes. The mattress is just a slab of latex.
I ended up buying 100% latex from SleepEZ and have not regretted it for a moment. I've slept just fine on a lot of memory foam mattresses, but wanting something that was going to be BIFLT, memory foam just can't be trusted unless you are a featherweight.
We just ordered a SleepEZ and they had some great educational materials on their website. They specifically mention fibromyalgia. Hoping your new mattress works well for you; from what all I’ve learned, it seems you made a good choice!
We went with firm Dunlop/medium Dunlop/medium Talalay and firm Dunlop/medium Dunlop/soft Talalay. I’m nervous about the soft as I prefer a firm bed but was told because of my size and having hip pain (side sleeper), I needed to make sure I would be able to get the top layer to contour to my body.
Debating saying anything because I don’t want to confuse you even more, but it’s hard to find opinions from other small framed people… Our stats are similar to yours and we just initiated a return for SleepEZ because it’s not working for me, but I would give them a try. I really wanted an all latex mattress to work out for us and went with SleepEZ because of the adjustable and split layers, giving the ability to customize to each of our needs. Their customer service is also really great - responsive and friendly. I hope whatever you decide works out wonderfully for the both of you!
First, before I say more, there is a recent post from a small framed individual about them loving their latex mattress. So, go search that post out if you haven’t seen it! :) It seems us small framed people need quite a bit of soft layers to ensure we get pressure relief. As for me, I’m wondering if I just don’t like latex in general. It seems, from the SleepEZ reps and that other individual, that I just don’t have enough soft layers, and that’s causing me pain. I’ve had terrible hip pain and even some back pain when I manage to sleep on my back instead of my side. But, even if I was able to relieve the pressure points, I’m not sure I’d be thrilled with the feel. It feels like the mattress is pushing against me, and I’m not enjoying that. It’s so hard to describe, something you’d just have to experience. As for motion transfer, my husband does wake me up when he moves. That being said, he’s an alligator, lol. There isn’t any subtle, try not to wake up my wife, movements. 😅 He’s a heavy sleeper and just doing his thing. But I didn’t really have this issue in our old Sealy. I haven’t noticed edge support being a huge issue. What I HAVE noticed is I can tell where we have it split down the middle. SleepEZ is so helpful and their return process is very easy and one of the cheaper in cost. If you’re really interested in giving latex a shot, I say go for it. Make sure you get enough soft, thick top layer support in your configuration.
You may have not tried 100% natural Talalay. Firm Tempur can be the worst product for side sleepers.. especially for elderly people becsuse you sink into it and get stuck
Yeah, you may have not seen my other post where I mentioned the difference between Talalay classic and 100% natural and you’re absolutely right… If you have a local store where you can go and try them before and avoid the shipping expense that is definitely the way to go
They are local to me. I've been sleeping on a king size 13" all Talalay layers mattress from SleepEZ for almost 15 years. It could use a new cover, but otherwise it's been great.
We just got the split Sleep EZ and are loving it. Plus you can choose the firmness options for both sleepers and adjust it a bit by changing the order of the layers.
not sure if you’re still following this thread but I have a Sleepez mattress that i’ve been customizing for almost a year now and I feel like I just can’t get it right. Every combo of layers I’ve tired either feels like my hips sink in too far and give me back pain, or my hips don’t sink in enough and leave me with back pain from my back sagging down. How did you find the right layer configuration?
yeah you’re right that 14 is a lot. think my conclusion from looking at the list again is that I need to return the mattress lol
I agree that the other components are important, but no other mattress has ever given me the specific pain points that the latex mattress gave me. And I tried some of the latex configurations for weeks or months at a time. So I think maybe latex is just not a good fit for my body for whatever reason
We have had good luck with SleepEZ. They are super helpful if you call them and you can customize your organic mattress by choosing the layers. You can also split them if you have a partner who wants a different configuration. The mattress cover is really well made and we can replace a layer if needed. I also like that we can flip the layers periodically to help extend the lifespan of the mattress. And because the layers can separate, it’s so much easier to move. Otherwise, a latex mattress is extremely heavy and floppy.
We went with SleepEz and had a great experience. They are a small company and the employees are really knowledgeable and helpful. We both like firm mattresses and we went with extra 3 inch extra firm and 3 inch firm organic Dunlop and a 2 inch medium Talalay for the top layer. I recommend getting the layers split even if you both want the same firmness level. The advantages to this is: 1 the are much easier to maneuver them because latex is so heave, 2 They are easier to swap out I’d one of you needs a change, and finally, they are easier to flip them to allow for more even wear.
I’ve had a split king all latex mattress from SleepEZ for a few months now, and am addicted to the latex feel. It makes it hard to get out of bed in the morning! I agree with most of your other points here as well. My only minor quibble is the advice to always avoid a quilted top. I don’t disagree that the quilting will compress and leave body impressions - it will. That isn’t problematic in my book though. The quilting is not structural, or even really a significant contributor to the comfort layer. A nice cotton/wool quilting layer is there to help wick moisture and warm air away from your body, which greatly contributes to the mattress not trapping heat. It still retains these properties even when compressed.
I have a split king. Both sides have the same layers, but in different orders, after experimentation. Main mattress is 3x3”, then we have a 3” topper on each side. All layers are Dunlop except for the soft, which is Talalay. One side is Med/Firm/Med, Soft Topper - a little firmer support, with plush comfort layers. Other side is Firm/Med/Soft, Med Topper - little bit firmer comfort layer, with soft contour underneath for extra pressure relief. Original config was F//M/M/S on both sides. This was a very nice setup, but a couple of little tweaks have made it perfect for each of us.
