I’m on year 20 with my Sleep Number 5000. My weight has fluctuated between 305 to 365.
I have been using the same Sleep Number mattress for 20+ years now. My weight has fluctuated from a high of 365 to my current weight of 305.
I think about $1500 but that was about 15 years ago. It's a king size dual control select comfort bed with 3 different zones that you can adjust individually. Since the zones are air bags, feels just as good today as it did new. Worth the price.
Select comfort 20 years still going
I have a sleep number bed that's adjustable for firmness for each side. I almost never feel my very restless husband move around at night unless he kicks me. This is the second one I've had, we moved up a size, so I've had these types of mattresses for 25+ years so while they're expensive, you're not going to have to replace it for a long time. (the old one went to the guest room). The thing I like best about it is when I've hurt my back and thought I needed it harder or softer, I could just change it. Didn't have to get a new mattress for a temporary condition. I call it the "no regrets" mattress.
I've had Sleep Number beds since they were still called Select Comfort, the first one almost 25 years. I don't have the adjustable up/down type but mine (I have multiple) do have separate air chambers for each side. I call it the "no regrets" mattress bc so many times you try a mattress at the store, get it home, and find out it's not really what you need/want in terms of firmness. Or if you have a back problem, you can adjust it for awhile I'll it's back in whack. All of mine are 15 years or older and I've never had a problem with any of them.
I have a rather basic sleep number mattress and box, it’s not rated for that capacity but… I am well beyond it. So… make of that what you will. It’s the second one I’ve owed. The first one was a king, probably should have gone with king again but now we have a queen. If you’re unfamiliar, the system is pretty much an ultra rugged air mattress wrapped up in more traditional mattress covers. There’s a control box with a pump so you don’t have to blow it up (firmer) or let air out (softer) and left to right each side can set their own firmness aka sleep number. There’s a polymer box spring underneath. It’s sturdy af. It all comes flat packed and it’s a bit of a magic trick to get it all together. You’ll want some help. None of it is particularly difficult but you should have 2 people. For the bed frame, I picked a not the very cheapest tubular steel ikea thing and then doubled up the wooden slats they have for them. You’re supposed to use one roll per side spanning head to toe, and frame rail to center spar. But I bought two extras, one for each side. The extra one fits by being run toe to head, and upside down so that the wood slats fit between each other. Maybe hard to imagine but putting one in correctly makes it clear where the extra one fits. Zero problem. I had the king for 5 years. Absolutely loved it. The king got a rip in it through no fault of its own and we replaced it with our current queen, flawless for going on 13 years. It’s starting to show wear. The foam bits inside could be replaced. And that’s the real clincher… The mattress is easy to take apart and put together. The whole system is, ikea steel and all. That was one of the goals because we move so much. So I can replace the stability foam bits inside the mattress. The only problem I have recommending this is, the popular enshitification trend might be a problem. I bought all of this 13 years ago. Maybe they suck now IDK. Maybe the design is significantly different now and it won’t support my needs. I wish I could give a better endorsement, but no (zero) springs or firming wires or coil density issues. They don’t squeak although the frame does occasionally.
I love my Sleep Number bed too! We bought ours 17 years ago and it's still working perfectly. We have a king size and I don't feel my husband moving around during the night and we can each choose our own level of firmness.
