We're on our second SleepNumber mattress. First one lasted 12+ years until we decided to upgrade. When the time came, there was no question about buying another SleepNumber. We're 100% happy with SleepNumber beds. The newer one cost approx $4k

I came here to say get a Sleepnumber! I got one with my ex for the same reason, and when we broke up I kept the mattress and bed. My current boyfriend could probably fall asleep anywhere and on anything, but it was a nice luxury to be able to set the mattress for him to his liking. The most basic mattress they have is great and very affordable IMO.

We got a sleep number several months ago and also love it. We went with a solid base so it doesn’t adjust that way (and saved a decent amount on cost) but being able to adjust separate sides of the bed for firmness is awesome. It’s also sleeps so so so much cooler (temp wise) than any of the memory foam/hybrid mattresses we had for the 15 years prior. Highly recommend. Glad to see long term owners commenting here - I’m hopeful ours lasts a long time.

We are on our second sleep number mattress. The first one was at least 5 years old when we got it from my mom (who I’m pretty sure got it used)and lasted us over ten years, so the choice to get another one was pretty easy. (All of the conventional mattresses we’ve had have gone soggy within a couple years and my back can’t handle that shit) The one we have is the first level up from the base model (it has a slightly upgraded control and thicker topper piece) and I think it was 1300 when I bought it last year during a sale (which the sale may have just been a deal on the financing interest, frankly I forget but it’s nearly paid off either way)

I have a rather basic sleep number mattress and box, it’s not rated for that capacity but… I am well beyond it. So… make of that what you will. It’s the second one I’ve owed. The first one was a king, probably should have gone with king again but now we have a queen. If you’re unfamiliar, the system is pretty much an ultra rugged air mattress wrapped up in more traditional mattress covers. There’s a control box with a pump so you don’t have to blow it up (firmer) or let air out (softer) and left to right each side can set their own firmness aka sleep number. There’s a polymer box spring underneath. It’s sturdy af. It all comes flat packed and it’s a bit of a magic trick to get it all together. You’ll want some help. None of it is particularly difficult but you should have 2 people. For the bed frame, I picked a not the very cheapest tubular steel ikea thing and then doubled up the wooden slats they have for them. You’re supposed to use one roll per side spanning head to toe, and frame rail to center spar. But I bought two extras, one for each side. The extra one fits by being run toe to head, and upside down so that the wood slats fit between each other. Maybe hard to imagine but putting one in correctly makes it clear where the extra one fits. Zero problem. I had the king for 5 years. Absolutely loved it. The king got a rip in it through no fault of its own and we replaced it with our current queen, flawless for going on 13 years. It’s starting to show wear. The foam bits inside could be replaced. And that’s the real clincher… The mattress is easy to take apart and put together. The whole system is, ikea steel and all. That was one of the goals because we move so much. So I can replace the stability foam bits inside the mattress. The only problem I have recommending this is, the popular enshitification trend might be a problem. I bought all of this 13 years ago. Maybe they suck now IDK. Maybe the design is significantly different now and it won’t support my needs. I wish I could give a better endorsement, but no (zero) springs or firming wires or coil density issues. They don’t squeak although the frame does occasionally.

That's too bad. I had the opposite experience. Have had mine for about 12 years, just needed to replace the outer foam with them after a decade. Works great for two side sleepers of very different sizes and weights, so we can each set the right firmness.

Its a bit of an investment but so far 7 years in and it has been the best purchase ever. Sleep Number. Not only do you adjust the firmness you want but every time you get off it resets. No one lump, not one sag. Only every once in a while do you have to play with the air so you ass isnt in the hard surface below. But add air on the app and fixed. So worth the money in my opinion.

I’ll echo experience with Saatva and Tempur-pedic. I bought the former during Covid and it has done me quite well. In my case, the firmest possible option. That said, when I moved a year and a half ago, I kept that mattress and it’s frame in my master bedroom. But the new house also has a loft space which, taking a queue from the previous owner, I moved a bed up there as well. In this case, I bought a Tempur-pedic. Reason being that they have a new model that also has a lumbar support that is basically just a bar that can push up the middle section of the bed as well as the traditional head in foot. Having tried that in their store, I was pretty sure that that frame was a super superior option for my own quirky body. Of course, it could still use a Saatva mattress, but I went ahead and got the combination. I have no regrets and find myself sleeping on that bed in the loft far more often. That extra support correct for my biggest problem in that other adjustable bed, which was my first ever. And that’s the feeling that my lower back was sinking into the bed when I was not in a level position. Now, I can adjust the lumbar. I’ve never found a particular setting that works… But what really works is being able to adjust it on the fly as pain creeps in. Just being able to modulate makes an enormous difference. Also, as a side sleeper, I find that having the bed level, but that lumbar support pushed up to some degree, or another really helps to sort of mitigate the flexibility of my spine. Nevertheless, these are all very individual things. On the plus side of Tempur-pedic and purple and sleep number… These are all available to try in stores. I highly recommend going to your local mall – which is where I was able to find a store that, I believe, sold all three. And just politely ask him if you can lie down there for a few hours. Bring your phone or a book or whatever and be prepared to feel like a museum peace as children walk by wondering what is wrong with you that you’re lying down in the store… But you can learn a lot more by lying down on each side for a half hour and on your back for another half hour then what any sales person can tell you or any Review online can tell you. I can’t tell you how close I was to buying a sleep number. In fact, if I could’ve put a sleep number mattress on the Tempur-pedic frame, I think I would’ve had the ultimate option for mitigating my own never-ending pain. Sadly, that wasn’t compatible… So I flipped the coin in what I believe is the correct direction. But only your spine can know for sure. And that’s so hard to explain outside of a forum like this. Just do your best to see what works for you and then hope that that choice bears fruit… I’m sure we all have some pretty rough stories about making a very careful, thoughtful, and heavily research choice that we were even able to test ourselves… Only to find that within a month or two or 10 we discover that it was a great effort… But still not as much as we hoped would help us cope through the night. Good luck with whatever you choose.
