The best option is a big slab of latex. Even if you think you're allergic, you most likely aren't and you'll never come into direct contact with it if you don't want to. Sleeponlatex/earthfoam is one of the best brands

Ah if it's that bad I wouldn't risk it then. But most people have a mild reaction to some of the chemicals used in cheaper latex manufacturing which is confused for "latex allergy" or to only specific types of latex, neither of which apply to high quality latex mattresses. It is worth noting that at least sleeponlatex/earthfoam comes with a thick cotton cover and with a bedsheet over top you'll never come into contact with it, but I don't blame you at all for not wanting to risk it with that haha

I’ll second SOL. Love mine. Do note though, thing is HEAVY. It’s a beast to move or adjust.

I just got a mattress from sleep on latex. I read a bunch of reviews and decided to give it a try. I got the queen firm for $1000 shipped. After about 3 months I noticed back neck hip shoulder aches and reached out to them as I was outside the 100 trial window and they offered 50% off their 2 inch soft topper with a free cover. I ordered it and it has helped a bit but I still wake up a bit achy. It could be related to my age (37) and my desk job causing tight hip flexors though. What I like the most is the interior of the bed is wool batting and I am always the perfect temp and don’t get so god damn hot and sweaty at night. All around I think it’s an alright bed. The customer service was great. I don’t know if I would go for one again. But latex mattresses are supposed to last 20 years.

Switched to latex from memory foam and have been so happy with the choice. Extremely comfortable and supportive. Doesn't degrade like foam. We're 2y in on a mattress from sleeponlatex and it feels brand new

I went down this rabbit hole a few years ago. The short of it is - get a latex mattress. I studied every brand, researched the construction of the various mattresses and I kept coming back to a latex mattress. For reference, I am a side sleeper. I bought a SleepOnLatex 4 years ago and just bought a second one for a spare bedroom. They are seriously the best - but do note they feel different than a spring or memory foam mattress. Latex foam is firmer and has bounce to it in comparison to memory foam. But it’s great elasticity, I find, gives me a ton of support. You may find you prefer a soft/pillow top. I suggest getting a topper for a latex mattress. I choose sleep on latex since they are made here, their cover is fully cotton. Their CS is wonderful and so helpful as well. Another thing to note is having a SOLID bed frame for a latex mattress (or any mattress for that matter) since the latex is a heavier foam. Most standard cheap bed frames do not provide a solid platform for a latex mattress, and if the frame is weak or poorly constructed, it will sag and result in the mattress sagging too. I recommend ordering from the Japan - tatamiroom.com makes excellent solid wood constructed frames.

I’ve used sleep on latex, I have the medium version and soft one. They feel wonderful to sleep on. After 5 years the soft one has a bit of a dip in the middle. The medium one for guests is going great but also many people complain it’s too hard. Initially it has an earthy smell to it but that dissipates in about a year. They keep you really cool, because of the latex material. The worst part is that the mattresses are very heavy and hard to move.

I agree with the SOL, it’s a firm and well made mattress and I think latex would be the way to go for you. Get the firm and add their medium Dunlop topper if you have pressure points. If you are more interested in memory foam go with a 5 lb density foam. There are brands like Big Fig, and Brooklyn Bedding Titan that offer beds for heavier sleepers specifically and have a great price point. I also think if you are losing weight get something comfortable for now and you might have to change in 3 years. I hope it’s due to reaching your goals! Good luck!

I was just in mattress shopping rabbit hole hell and finally make a decision that I am super excited about - went with a Sleep on Latex King in Firm and it was like $1600! I used to have a $3k+ Essentia mattress I used for 10 years so was used to all latex and loved it, the Sleep on Latex arrived super fast with just a couple of days and their customer service is great. I was really torn between medium and firm and went for firm because if its too firm, you can get one of their toppers to perfect the feel for half off, and it is easier to make a mattress softer than the opposite. I am probably just parroting everything I learned from everyone here on Reddit but after so much research that is where I ended up, will report back on how it goes as we break it in! They say try it for a week as is and then call them to talk about topper recommendation and that will also ship fast.

We got a latex mattress 6 months ago that has been fantastic. I have high hopes based on feedback from others that it will last a long time. Memory foam is always going to break down eventually

We went with a SleepOnLatex in firm. Decided it was a bit too hard in stock configuration and they gave us 50% off a medium topper. You still feel the firmness through the topper, it’s really a wonderful combination

Research some good latex mattresses. They don’t sag like the spring mattress. They offer good support. I personally have been using sleeponlatex mattresses for almost 7 years and still feel like new. I will never go back big box mattresses. It was also too rated brand on consumer reports when I purchased it. It was recommended to me by a friend and later I recommended to another friend and all three of us are happy customers of the brand Also mattress underground forum can also provide some guidance on genuine brands that do not have a huge markup
