Hi! I bought an avocado luxury bed with the pillow top (not box top). It’s been painful to sleep on for about 50 days and is just starting to get better, though I’m suspecting that it doesn’t quite have enough support or pressure relief for me around the hip, I’m a 5’ 10 side sleeper that is 180lbs for context. I went and tried some beds and felt that the helix midnight luxe might be a great option, I also tried the tempurpedic luxe adapt medium hybrid, I was surprised that the helix midnight luxe actually felt better to me than the tempurpedic. Anyways all this is to say two things. 1. Buying a bed is a pain and I’ve learned I should have done much more research before. Like visiting your site! 2. What are your personal thoughts on Tempurpedic vs Helix? They were both good, but the helix is a lot less and sort of makes me wonder what I might be missing.
Hello, I work at Mattress Firm, I'm at work right now. I see you want to stay at $3000, which should get you something decent. Also, the Tempurpedic Mattress at Costco is basically the Tempur Adapt Mattress we sell, which is the beginning of the line for Tempurpedic. They get much better by just moving to the next step up, the Tempur Pro Adapt mattress. I have been going through some trial and error myself over the last year, dealing with similar pain. I have both the Tempur Pro Adapt Medium Hybrid and Luxe Adapt Medium Hybrid (I have a Split King Bed). They both have been great for the last year, I no longer wake up in pain, but all of a sudden, I'm having trouble getting comfortable and staying asleep (I still wake up pain free but getting to sleep is the problem, it's mostly stress) so out of desperation I bought an $1500 Plush Pillow Top Mattress, thinking I should be able to fall asleep easier. I just got it Thursday, and I get comfortable and fall asleep immediately, but now I wake up in a lot of pain, so I'm going back to my Tempurpedic until I can afford something else that is better then that $1500 Mattress or fix my stress. My point is I just discovered that maybe a good bed makes a difference, and Tempurpedic might actually be worth it and not just overhyped and overpriced. There are other options besides Tempurpedic that fit your budget and should do wonders. The mattress I really want to try myself is the Sealy Posturpedic High Point Hybrids (these are at ever Mattress Firm location to try). I want the soft, but there is a medium, too. I lay on them all day when customers aren't in the store. These are the next best thing to a Tempurpedic in my opinion. I sell a lot of these to people who don't want to spend Tempurpedic prices or hate how Tempurpedic feels. I don't know if it's allowed, but if you want I can give you the City and State for my Mattress Firm, you can Google the store number and call me here. I can help you with any questions and I'll give you some discounts to make it worth it. You also will get the 120 Night Trial still, so 4 months to try the mattress.
We say up to 2 months to break a mattress in, but within the first month, it should break in. We tell people to try standing on their knees and walk around on the mattress to speed up breaking it in. That works pretty well, we do that when we get new mattresses on our showroom floor. Doing this might loosen it up more. It sounds like you are dealing with similar problems as me. Most of the first year went well, but now, most of the time, I toss and turn forever trying to get comfortable. Usually, once I'm asleep, I'm good, but some nights, I barely get any sleep. Now, this will depend on you and what you think you need more of. Do you think you want a softer mattress or firmer mattress? Usually, for side sleepers, I would recommend going softer if you think the mattress feels too firm, but if you think you feel like you don't feel supported enough, then go firmer. Did you try a Soft Tempurpedic in the store? ( There isn't always one to try, I don't have one here) or try a firm Tempurpedic. I personally would like to try sleeping on a Soft, but I almost think I don't want a Tempurpedic anymore. It doesn't matter how great a Tempurpedic is supposed to be, it doesn't mean it's right for you. Which is why I recommend the Sealy High Points, a lot of my customers who hate Tempurpedic love these. A couple weeks ago, a customer exchanged her Luxe-Adapt Medium Hybrid for the Sealy High Point Soft Hybrid. If you want to stick with Tempurpedic, you could try the Luxe-Adapt models. The trade-off between your Luxe-Breeze and the Luxe-Adapt is more pressure relief and less cooling. The Luxe-Adapt has an added ergonomic layer it supposed to provide better relief, and it makes it the softest feeling model compared to the rest. Your Luxe-Breeze loses that ergonomic layer for better cooling, but it still has added layers, so you aren't just paying for the cooling. Sometimes, finding the right mattress is really hard, and unfortunately, some people it won't matter what mattress they get. Sometimes, they will always be in pain, but those are more serious cases. Sometimes, I need to take a muscle relaxer to sleep. I've also been told I need to learn to stretch more, and that would help. Maybe you need a High End Innerspring Mattress, like Beauty Rest Black. Unfortunately, sometimes it's a guessing game. If you go to try mattress at the store again, take as much time as you can to lay on them. Let me know if you have other questions.
Hi there- I've been struggling for over a year - bought a Spring Air back supporter mattress -14.5G zoned coils and eurotop - my hips sink down in foam and then have hip pain and although it feels soft, I also get shoulder pain. I've tried so many different toppers and nothing has worked- Currently making my own zoned topper (softer foam 10ILD for shoulders and HR 28ILD firmer foam for hips to keep hips from sinking) but would much prefer a mattress that did not need a topper. I'm a petite (5') lightweight side sleeper with shoulder bursitis flares so shoulders need soft but hips need a medium-soft. I wish I could find a plush mattress with a zipper that would allow me to put a shim in the hip section. Seems so hard to find a medium-soft 4/10 mattress- all the soft ones are way too soft for my hips and every medium mattress 5 or 6/10 is too firm for me. Latex does not work. Trying to avoid zoned coils as it did not work well with the Spring Air. I see that some companies are now zoning the foam or using a shim piece. Would prefer a hybrid as I have never had an all foam mattress and I do sleep hot so not interested in all memory foam. Tempurpedic did not work- I tried the lux adapt medium hybrid- great for back, but terrible on my side. And their soft versions, I sank and then hit hard surface. I tried the BR world class 4 plush and it was way too soft. The level 3 plush felt too firm in the store so I thought the 4 would work but nope. I previously had a Stearns and Foster from 2016 that was a luxury plush pillowtop - always was a bit too firm for my shoulders but hips never sank and I was ok until 2 years ago when I was sleeping slanted as the edge support is too good. I tried the Stearns lux estate medium hybrid and it arrived defective - big hump in the center and I hated the deep divets. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Total garbage, I tried out 7 online mattresses and 2 in store mattresses, and now I have a temperedic lux adapt medium hybrid and love it.
Temperpedic luxe adapt medium hybrid. I went through seven different mattress brands including 5 online
I've financed a Tempur-Pedic Luxe-Adapt Soft in a king. I also have the Tempur-pedic pro-adapt high pillow. Both feel like heaven when I use them. I am a mainly side and belly/side sleeper, usually having an arm up under my pillow. I am around 175lb woman with mom hips and opted for the soft mattress because i had the medium luxe-breeze hybrid and it sunk to a point then felt like i was laying on concrete thanks to the springs, and my hips were killing me. I did try the luxe-adapt medium but given tempur-pedic material being reactive to tempurate, and i sleep in an ice box basically, i was concerned it would remain stiff and hurt as well. The medium felt not too bad in the 80° showroom but the soft made my hip pain disappear. Although everything feels wonderful sometimes I do wonder if my spine is a bit misaligned due to the softs sinkage and can't figure out if the odd lower/mid back aches I get from time to time is simply from age and nothing mattress related or the posture I hold while sleeping. What do you think? For my size, hips, & sleep positions do you think I made a decent choice of purchase? (I was only interested in tempurpedic)
I tried a tempur luxe adapt hybrid in store with my wife and loved it. With adj base it’s like $7k. I have a guy I know through friends that wants to sell me a “similar style” MLily “midnight” or “chiroPro” mattress and a base for $2500-3k depending which one I choose. It’s a Chinese company from what I see but they make their mattresses stateside Are these even close to the same quality? I know Tempur is overpriced but i don’t wanna get hosed. The guy comes with good recommendations from people I trust, but I’m more so asking about the product itself.
I have a tempur hybrid luxe and it’s lovely. My last memory foam (Brooke and Wilde Ultima)was awful, had to get rid after 18 months and could never get comfortable.
Chronic pain person here and it’s head to toe pain for me with issues in my neck to my toes… tempurpedic luxadapapt medium hybrid. But Dr Lady Spinedoc however recommended another bed very recently.
I haven’t had anyone from my store complain about sagging with the LuxeAdapt hybrid. The design is the same as the LuxeBreeze Hybrid just swap one of the layers for the cooling one. I don’t believe that’s the case. I do think (because I’ve been selling mattresses since 2010 for different companies) it’s very common for people to use their old box springs, or those platform beds that have wood slats that crazy thin and bend. Even though it’s stated in the warranty, and I tell people not to, that it can cause sagging. So not to drink the Tempur Kool-Aid, but I think people who complain about sagging mattresses so early on in the life span are using improper foundations or platform beds. Our LuxeAdapt Hybrid has no mattress protector, and is on an adjustable base going up and down all day with different body types laying on. It hasn’t sagged once.
Tempur-Pedic mattresses are warrantied for ten years, but they can typically last between 12-15 years. I have seen plenty of customers who still have one from 18+ years ago. As someone with back pain after two car accidents, Tempur has been the only one that I could sleep on that actually helps take most of the pain away. The pain never really goes away unfortunately. I opted not to go for spinal disc replacement and instead go for a nerve ablation. Anyways, to answer you question. 1. At least 10 years, but can last longer than that. 2. No, you can not flip them. You can try rotating them if you feel like it may help. 3. That I can't answer, there are a lot of factors that go into recommending mattresses when it comes to someone's personal back pain. I can make some recommendations. If you wanted to stick with Tempur-Pedic I would look at the LuxeAdapt Medium Hybrid. If your okay with jumping ship, then I would look at the Sealy Elite Hybrid. The Sealy is zoned with extra coils that can add extra lift and support to the lower back. Both of those have a nice soft top that can give pressure relief. I wish you both the best of luck, and if you can think of any other questions, feel free to ask,
My grandparents absolutely love Stearns & Foster mattresses. While I do prefer my super soft Tempur-Pedic mattress, whenever we visit them in Arizona we all sleep great. Once again, I know I am the favorite grandchild because they recently replaced one of the guest bed mattresses with a soft hybrid Stearns & Foster. I would say if you are looking for a more traditional innerspring mattress, I would start with Stearns & Foster.

Had S&F Reserve Med, slept way hot. Just overbuilt. Estate bound to be better. Got TempurPedic LuxAdapt Med Hybrid, excellent after 60 days. All comments here about uselessness of in store tryout 100% correct. Was fine when just springs. Now materials require time, pressure and heat to reveal themselves. Most important factor is NOT mattress, but return policy. The other way to go is 3rd party resellers on eBay. No return, but 50 to 70% off. See starsluckysales for one.
Most important is return, replace policy. (Sample 5 from Costco?) You cannot understand any modern mattress in the store. In that sense, every store is Costco. All require sleep test 30 days min, 90 better. We returned S&F Reserve $5k slept very hot. (Was fab in store.) Got LuxAdapt Med Hybrid, it’s day 20 and sleeps better each night. Started rather firm. Does not over heat so far this winter. Do check out 3rd party resellers. See starsluckysales and others on eBay. (Plainly violates my return priority.) LuxAdapt Hybrid is very different from Adapt Hybrid and ProAdapt Hybrid. Dramatically different construction. For us, well worth upgrade, but ProAdapt (hybrid?) is their best seller. I believe due price difference. I’m 200 side, wife 160 side, we both love the LuxAdapt Med Hybrid.
Use your fist or knee to make a depression in the hybrid versions of the ProAdapt and the LuxAdapt. The LuxAdapt Hybrid will reform much, much more quickly. I believe this is due to the Lux 3rd layer not present on the Pro 2 layer system. I really don’t know exactly what this means, but given the higher cost and place in the Tempurpedic line up…I’d go w the Lux medium hybrid.
Like you we kept out old mattress for 15 yrs. Got Stearns & Foster Reserve Med Tight Top for $5400. It slept way too hot and the 3” Tempur layer sank in a good amount overnight. Exchanged for TempurPedic LuxAdapt Medium Hybrid. It is a ton cooler than Reserve, very comfortable. Also $5400. The cheaper TempurPedics have been significantly de-contented in recent years with much lighter foam weights. You will find a knowledgeable review of TempurPedic mattresses on Reddit that makes clear LuxAdapt and LuxAdapt Hybrids are the best units made. I’ve invested about 50 hrs to the point of getting to second level and manufacturing personnel at S&F and TempurPedic. Exchange/return ease is vital. Having said that, the 3rd party resellers on eBay have 55% off on thousands of mattresses. (All those returns go somewhere!). Many are old stock. Don’t be afraid of those, a 3 yr old S&F Reserve had 25% latex vs 15% now. (The legal tag shows latex, website does not). And as I said an older low end TempurPedic will have better foam. This reseller has great reviews on eBay starsluckysales. No returns or warranty, but if you identify a high-end, luxury mattress you’re pretty sure you like ( like mine!) save yourself a couple thousand and get the high end mattress you want.
We have LuxAdapt Medium Hybrid. Totally different mattress than ProAdapt Med Hybrid. Drive your knee into both see what happens. I’m not convinced the Breeze will be cooler or worth the extra $1 to $2k. The Breezes, even soft, are firmer the the LuxAdapt Med Hybrid in the store. MOST IMPORTANT THING IS STORE RETURN/SWAP POLICY. You cannot know if you’ll like a mattress until 30 to 90 days on. Having said that, if budget is an issue check 3rd party resellers on eBay. Starsluckysales is one of many. No return, but half price. You really can’t go wrong with LuxAdapt or LuxBreeze, hybrid or all foam.
