This is nonsense. I have this mattress and it’s hot as hell.
Spent a year trying to figure out the same thing. Wife and I ended up coughing up a shit load of money for a TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt 13" Soft and adjustable base. We previously had a basic tempur pedic mattress that lasted over 15yrs. Figured we would try it again and it's been about a month on it now and have haven't slept this good in many years. Hated spending all that money but zero percent financing helped the decision. Happy that we did it.
I've financed a Tempur-Pedic Luxe-Adapt Soft in a king. I also have the Tempur-pedic pro-adapt high pillow. Both feel like heaven when I use them. I am a mainly side and belly/side sleeper, usually having an arm up under my pillow. I am around 175lb woman with mom hips and opted for the soft mattress because i had the medium luxe-breeze hybrid and it sunk to a point then felt like i was laying on concrete thanks to the springs, and my hips were killing me. I did try the luxe-adapt medium but given tempur-pedic material being reactive to tempurate, and i sleep in an ice box basically, i was concerned it would remain stiff and hurt as well. The medium felt not too bad in the 80° showroom but the soft made my hip pain disappear. Although everything feels wonderful sometimes I do wonder if my spine is a bit misaligned due to the softs sinkage and can't figure out if the odd lower/mid back aches I get from time to time is simply from age and nothing mattress related or the posture I hold while sleeping. What do you think? For my size, hips, & sleep positions do you think I made a decent choice of purchase? (I was only interested in tempurpedic)
I have thrown so much money on mattresses. I have slept on almost every everyone out there! I personally loved tempurpedic luxe adapt soft. It was my favorite mattress that I ever slept so well on! I am 125 lbs 5’4 and sleep on my back and stomach. My side lasted for 6 years but my husband’s side started to deep more because he is 6’1 at 220 lbs. We are now sleeping on tempurpedic pro adapt medium hybrid. It has more support and feels more firm, but it is new and hasn’t been broken in. I did put a topper on it and it makes it a lot more softer. We have two weeks to decide if we want to keep it or exchange for softer one.
Got a Tempurpedic a few weeks ago. It took a bit to get used to, it is very comfortable to sleep on, back feels good, not too hot. It was so stupidly expensive, but I think worth the payments.
I have the pro adapt luxe soft purchase last week. Idk if the 'removable' cover is waterproof or not, but it's not really removable in the sense that a traditional protector pad is. Much easier to get on and off. It feels wonderful too, it feels exactly like sleeping directly on the mattress, but a little better
A couple weeks ago. Luxe pro adapt soft, because I am light and a side sleeper. I am not a thousand percent sure that I shouldn't have laid on more inner springs, but I got on the beautyrest black and a sterns and foster and a purple... I liked this one better. I laid on my side on it for a long time, the way I do at home working on my phone. My second favorite was the sterns and foster, but it didn't feel as supportive and I was worried about longevity since apparently nobody knows how to make an inner spring last more than a few years anymore. Which is really annoying. The very first and only bed that I bought as an adult was a traditional inner spring with a double pillow top... Whatever they made pillow tops with 25 years ago. That bed lasted fifteen years too. It was like sleeping on a cloud, but not in one. It was complete perfection. Better than this one, although i'm comparing a memory to now and my body was much younger back then and lacking chronic pain
Is that a costco version? Or maybe it had different names 9 years ago... I have the luxe pro adapt soft
I’d recommend you try out a luxeadapt soft if it’s possible you can go without the cooling of the luxebreeze then just enhance some of the cooling through sheets and protectors, worst case I’m sure the place would let you trade up to a luxebreeze and not really give you a hard time about it. But that change would save you $1000 alone, structurally the luxebreeze and luxeadapt are very similar. I’d also recommend making sure you’re going with the ergo adjustable base and not the ergo smart or prosmart base. For me personally I love the prosmart and will be getting one myself but if you really just want the main ergonomic features you should just look into the base model ergo, I’ve sold a setup like this in around the 7-8 grand range. However if I am correct about what you’re looking into (a luxebreeze with the smart base) there’s no real way outside of shopping clearance to get it any less since tempurpedics are locked in price on every new model mattress and base.
Unless you have a breeze line tempurpedic or a new line tempurpedic from the adapt collection which has ventilated foam that promotes much better temperature management you should likely treat these new tempurpedics different from older ones. Older model tempurpedics had much worse cooling due to no ventilation in the foam. OP should still choose what they feel comfortable at the end of the day but I feel it’s crucial to add this. Only way the cooling won’t be as prominent is if they were to not have breathable protectors and sheets.
Tempur Luxe Adapt Soft. It's worth the money for what you want. You can probably finance it for like $100/month interest free. If you find something else that even remotely compares, let me know.
> I want a firm or medium firm mattress. I’m a side sleeper & I just don’t want my back hurting anymore You're a side sleeper, you can't find a mattress you like because you're looking for firm or medium firm, which is the wrong mattress. Those mattresses will almost unanimously make your shoulders and/or hips hate life, and will cause your back to sag between your shoulders and hips. If you're on the lighter side you're in the soft pillowtop range, if you're more narrow maybe a soft tight top or hybrid, if you're on the heavier side you're still probably looking for medium pillow top or soft or medium hybrid, and if you have very pronounced shoulders and/or hips you probably need something that can conform a lot (which probably means softer pillow tips). And just so you know, most lines of mattresses have similar amount of support. They'll usually have the same coil /base foam system whether it's the firm or soft, the difference is the pressure relieving matters on top of that which is what you need for side sleeping.
Whatever it is it needs to be soft. This might be one of those scenarios where all the high density foams they talk about in this subreddit might be too dense for you to even imprint reasonably, so might be better off with a lower end version of something than the mid or high end (like a Sealy Posturepedic Plus instead of the Pro or Elite lines, for a less dense foam and skipping the extra lumbar support). Otherwise if you're going higher end probably something with some sort of fluffy wool or cotton pillow top. I definitely agree with the head boss of this subreddit though, that the best thing anyone can do before buying a mattress is going to one of those big mattress stores to actually try some stuff and see what you actually like. And if you find something you love for the right price, then you don't have to worry about mattresses anymore.
Honestly, a mattress store. The best thing you can do is try out some stuff. You don't have to buy that day, although they will absolutely want you to. Also, work with the salesperson, answer their questions honestly, let them know what you're looking for, and let them use their experience to lead you through the options. Despite what some here think, they really only get paid if they help you find the right mattress for the right money. And if you do find the one for a price you're comfortable with, no need to keep worrying about it. Just buy the mattress protector so you have the potential comfort exchange.
In the meantime if your neck is hurting then you could probably work on getting a better fitting pillow. Ok your side your head should be basically flat, and fully in line with your back. If you're on too low of a pillow now this could even alleviate some shoulder pressure, and if you're on too high of a pillow then your neck is bent up at a weird angle and can throw everything off there. I'm not saying it's going to fix the mattress, but the mattress/pillow combo is very important. After that you're probably a good candidate for finding a soft topper, and probably only need an inch or two. I'm usually not a fan of toppers, but making the bed a bit softer is the primary use so that might be what you need.
Beautyrest is 1.5" of sag for warranty. 230 is fine, Luxe Adapt soft is one of the most supportive mattresses on the market, even as a soft. And there's no springs to feel. It would have been better for you than either of the hybrids. You can feel the springs because the mattress doesn't conform enough to you. If you were a 230lb back or stomach sleeper then the soft wouldn't have been as good.
This is exactly the reason for the split king though. I'd just make sure you're hitting the same profile. You don't want the bigger partner on a 13" extra firm and the lighter one on a 15.5" soft pillow top. You could have a soft luxe adapt and they could have a firm luxe breeze, same profiles but completely different feels and temp sensitivity. Or you could get a Stearns Estate soft pillow top and they a Stearns Estate firm pillow top. Or a Beautyrest Black Series 3 Plush pillow top and Firm pillow top (this will probably be the biggest difference in feel and support of any mattresses from the same line, because Beautyrest actually has a plush coil for the plush BR Blacks and a firm coil for the medium and firm BR Blacks). Although you both might actually like the BR Black Series 3 medium pillow top, because it does have a pretty cushy immediate feel, and the lighter partner may not even engage the support coils.
You don't know until you try them. The Luxe Adapts are some of the most supportive mattresses on the market, even in the soft. The Luxe Adapt Firm might be most similar to the older style Tempurs. The Pro Adapt Firm is great for making people realize they don't actually want (or need) the firmest mattress available.
