Is there a misconception a mattress has to be expensive to be good? I sleep better on a Serta Adoring Night Plush mattress I got on a closeout for $600 than I do on a Tempurpedic ProBreeze Medium that was 8 times the price…

My wife (5ft 130lbs 50yrs) and I (5ft 8in 160lbs 45yrs) are looking to get a new mattress and are ready to do what it takes to get a quality mattress thay provides a good night's sleep. She normally sleeps on her stomach but sometimes a back sleeper as well. I tend to toss and turn a lot trying to find comfort between back, stomach and side. Our current mattress is an old coil king size that we have had for 10 years and is now very uncomfortable (maybe source of tossing and turning). We went to a mattress firm store and laid on various beds but found that the medium hybrid tempurpedic beds (proadapt and probreeze) were very comfortable. We went back a second time debating getting a Costco version of tempurpedic called the supreme (maybe?) but when we laid on the probreeze hybrid medium it was just a noticeable difference that we really liked. With all that said here are my questions. I am concerned that our in store experience may not reflect reality of what we actually get at home and am wondering if the perceived difference between the probreeze and the proadapt are actually all that different in feel. We are not concerned with any cooling affect, just the actual comfort. Does anyone know if there is an actual difference in mattress support or foam quality comfort etc. between these two? Any experience choosing a tempurpedic mattress to help me not fall victim to spending an extra $1000 due to good marketing? Is the probreeze really that much ore mattress than the Costco tempurpedic? Lastly, I was very impressed with the adjustable bed bases and am seriously considering purchasing one with this mattress. The tempur brand they sell is around $2200 but there seem to be third party brands (jetbed?) That i have seen online that seem comparable. Is it important to get the tempur brand base or does anyone have any suggestions on a good third party base that works fine for a tempurpedic but is a zero access (fits flat in our existing bed frame). No extra bells and whistles, just moves the head and legs up and down. I have tried finding my answers before posting but it seems I may get a more accurate answer with this complete explanation. That is interesting to hear. The proadapt and adapt were hard for me to fully tell the difference between but when I or my wife laid on the probreeze it felt like the foam settled into the back of my neck and small of my back more so than the others and felt more supportive. Knowing that these mattresses can have a different feel over time I wasn't sure if what I was feeling was a difference in break in or quality of mattress (the sales clerk couldn't tell me the age of the floor models). Thank you for your explanation of the temperature affecting material (not just necessarily cooling) that does help. RealRedda mentioned the ergomotion bed frame and they are on sale right now for just over $700 for the rio 3.0 (basic with one memory setting) which makes them pretty attractive to me. I am hoping to use the zero clearance feature to fit this onto a Brimnes bed frame with storage drawers underneath.

The ProAdapt and the ProBreeze are similar, they just swap on layer for the cooling material. I believe the ProAdapt might have just a tad more comfort material on top, but both should feel very similar. I personally prefer the Breeze, and went with the LuxeBreeze Soft. It's not just about sleeping cooler, but to help you sleep in a temperature neutral state. So you don't freeze in the bed, but don't overheat either. If you don't necessarily need or desire any of the temperature regulation, then I would go with the ProAdapt. Also, Tempur-Pedic sells more than just one adjustable base. If you are wanting just the basic head and feet lifting, you can get the Ease in a king size for around $1,200. That does the basic head and feet lifting, offers a zero gravity preset, and is zero clearance so it can lay flat on your bed frame.

My grandparents absolutely love Stearns & Foster mattresses. While I do prefer my super soft Tempur-Pedic mattress, whenever we visit them in Arizona we all sleep great. Once again, I know I am the favorite grandchild because they recently replaced one of the guest bed mattresses with a soft hybrid Stearns & Foster. I would say if you are looking for a more traditional innerspring mattress, I would start with Stearns & Foster.

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are warrantied for ten years, but they can typically last between 12-15 years. I have seen plenty of customers who still have one from 18+ years ago. As someone with back pain after two car accidents, Tempur has been the only one that I could sleep on that actually helps take most of the pain away. The pain never really goes away unfortunately. I opted not to go for spinal disc replacement and instead go for a nerve ablation. Anyways, to answer you question. 1. At least 10 years, but can last longer than that. 2. No, you can not flip them. You can try rotating them if you feel like it may help. 3. That I can't answer, there are a lot of factors that go into recommending mattresses when it comes to someone's personal back pain. I can make some recommendations. If you wanted to stick with Tempur-Pedic I would look at the LuxeAdapt Medium Hybrid. If your okay with jumping ship, then I would look at the Sealy Elite Hybrid. The Sealy is zoned with extra coils that can add extra lift and support to the lower back. Both of those have a nice soft top that can give pressure relief. Go test before you buy. What's suitable for others won't work for you. that said, I tried probably 50-70 mattresses before I decided on mine... which is the tempur breeze california king. Think I paid about US$5.5K? I forgot. Love my mattress though, still the best memory foam IMO.

I’ve had it since 2019 and it’s still pretty much like new. Like it doesn’t sink or change shape, should last you 15-20 years

I went to a mattress store last Saturday. I was testing medium firm memory foam mattresses and the sales person had me try Temperpedic. It was my favorite feeling mattress but is way out of my budget. While there, they had the Firm Temperpedic mentioned above. I like a firm mattress but that thing is like a slab of concrete with a thin foam topper on it.

Tempurpedic, they have a mattress with cooling layer it gets too cool for me in the winter for for summer it’s perfect

My top of the line breeze was sagging in 11 months and the company refused warranty. Never again.

Honestly based on that I would recommend at least trying Tempur-Pedic. The breeze line is the best for cooling, but will be way over budget for you. If you want to stick in your budget, adapt line might be the way to go. TP has excellent motion separation. If you’re not keen on the tempur-pedic, try out the Sealy posture pedic line as well. The ones with the dark blue covers have excellent cooling. If you decide to sacrifice cooling in the mattress to go for a more budget friends option I recommend investing in good cooling sheets & a cooling mattress protector.
