Hi everyone, looking to see if anyone can give advice with my pictures. I live in a country where it’s hard to find a mattress that isn’t very firm and fits my body shape (broad shoulders, small waist). The only way I can find anything is if I go with international Tempur or Simmons. I’m 6’1” 185cm, 205lb 93kg, sleep hot and side sleeper. In my two pictures, the first is the Tempur Pro Luxe Medium. This one felt really good on my shoulders and my back felt fine. However, I was hoping for a second opinion on my spinal alignment for longer sleep times. It looks and felt like I sink far into the mattress which might be as designed for that “cradling” feeling and might get better with sheets? I’m looking to see if I can find a Pro Luxe Medium-Firm to try but I fear it may not be comfortable on my shoulders. The second photo is the Tempur Pro Plus Medium. This one felt good on my back but my shoulder was crammed. The Soft feels slightly better but my back doesn’t feel supported. My back is definitely more important, but I’ll go without the Luxe for the best of both worlds if it looks fine. I appreciate any help and thank you!
Thanks for the response, yeah unfortunately I can’t get the American models here and 0 return policy. I actually went with green headboard (picture 1) Pro Luxe Medium. I went and tested again and green looked better because my shoulder was crammed up against the pillow. When they gave me a better pillow, it looked like how picture 1 does. The shop I went to the medium was a lot more firm so I hope it’ll work out.
I find mattresses are so subjective that it’s hard to give advice on specific types. What I would recommend is to go to John Lewis and test every single mattress they have in your price range and then find the one you like on sale elsewhere and get JL to price match it for you We ended up choosing the Tempur Pro Luxe SC - Medium Firm, which has helped with some lingering back issues I’ve suffered with
You’re about 15 - 20kg heavier than me but same specs otherwise: 185cm, broad shoulders, narrow waist I recently went with the Tempur Pro Plus Soft and was debating either that or the Pro Luxe Medium/ Pro Plus Medium I think for you the pro luxe medium would be a safe bet. I know what you mean about shoulders, I had to go for the soft for my shoulders to fit in. If you’re used to firm mattresses the softer tempur stuff will make you feel like you’re unsupported but you’ll be fine, irrespective of how soft they are, your back eventually sinks into the support layers and it feels firm and stable. If you can afford it, go for the Luxe medium
nice nice, I actually traded my pro plus soft in to get the luxe medium as well. more of the adapt material the better
i’ve had a tempur mattress since they started making them pretty much I’ve hated about half the ones that I’ve owned and had to replace them through the trial period I did not like any of the Luxe models after it had broken in, and I ended up on a pro adapt, medium I have a similar build to you, 5 foot 10 broad shoulders small waist 185 pounds I sleep hot too, I think it’s from exercise. That said I don’t sleep very hot on this mattress. Tempur doesn’t really sell mattresses without some type of cooling technology. Maybe the cheaper ones The current breeze models for me were too cold, and after a couple hours, most of that feeling though not all would go away. So I found myself having to adjust blankets in the middle of the night. Good luck. I would, however, recommend their dual cooling pillow from their website. It’s been around for a long time it doesn’t stay as cold as the initial feel all night long, but it does stay generally cooler which helps keep the pillow a little firmer as well They do wear out though, you’ll have to replace one decently regularly
In picture one, you look like you are sinking more in the middle. Your alignment looks better in picture two. But I have also had shoulder issues with mattresses that were too firm and lower back issues with mattresses that were too soft. We have a medium feel mattress and I find that's better for both.
Best firm mattress I ever had was a tempurpedic from about 10 years ago, I got the medium firm due to a serious back injury, and that was as perfect of a bed I’ve ever experienced. It was absolutely bliss to sleep on.
As a man, I spend most of my life in 4 places, my boots, my bed, my socks and underwear. They all hold their worth, but my boots and mattress matter more than anything else. Tempurpedic was lifechanging. Im on my sexond one. For boots, i tried just about all of them, until I developed plantar fascitis so bad i hated life. Discovered Nicks boots and they legitimately healed my feet. A few other brands I've taken too, duckfeet, limmer, zamberlan, meindl. For beds I absolutely love tempurpedic. There's only one other bed I want to try at this point and that's a Japanese brand called the airweave.
