I went from a $400 mattress on a fixed base to a Tempurpedic ProAdapt Firm on an adjustable base. No desire to go back. I sleep better most nights, though I still don’t sleep well. That’s a different issue though. I usually wake up with less back pain too.
Get the luxe breeze firm. I am at 185lbs. Low back issues. Used the medium hybrid and in 2 occasions due to bumps on the side of the mattress, I had to file warranty claims, and both got approved. I would feel hips sinking in the middle of the night and woke up with constant low back pain. Switched for the firm and yes , the first month it will be firm but at your weight , it should get better. The firm keeps my back properly aligned and no more pain. Sleeping perfect now.
Yes. You read that well. After reading a lot about it, the firm on the luxe breeze is considered a medium firm, not precisely a firm after is broken down 6-7. If you go to a store. Lay down on the luxe breeze firm and you will notice is not as scary as the word firm. Now if you get a pro adapt, the medium would be better because the firm on the pro adapt is a solid rock. Maybe for people weighing more than 230 The medium hybrid luxe breeze is not as supportive as they make you think. Again, I am 185 and felt my hips sinking and low back pain every single morning.
We tried the ProAdapt firm and also loved it but were scared off by the price tag. We ended up with the TempurPedic Supreme Firm from Costco and love it. We think it feels similar and it was almost half the price, plus the Costco backing and right now they have a $300 gift card promotion too.
This may not sound like the answer you're looking for - but my girlfriend, who has hip issues, and I, who have low back issues and have had crazy bad sciatica, found that the Tempurpedic ProAdapt Firm really worked for us. My cousin had one in his guest room - when we first sat on it, we both thought it was going to be way too firm - but once we laid on it for a while, it turned out to have enough cushioning while remaining very supportive. We both woke up amazed at how good it was. (And I'm a side sleeper.) So we ended up buying one. That said, I did try out the $5000 Williams Co. St. James Firm in a store and if money was no object, that would be my first choice.
Def do NOT get the firm, I tried the medium in store. One thing I dislike it that it has the quick sand feel where you sink in slowly and when you switch from side to back, the foam reacts VERY slow as its not responsive. Make sure you are okay with that when you try the Medium in store.
My partner and I bought the Tempur pedic pro adapt in firm. It’s the firmest bed we’ve slept in but it is amazing. It still conforms to your body while giving you the firmness you need. It took my body about 2 months to finally adjust to it. We’re so happy with the purchase. I get the best sleep now. It was on the pricey side and we really didn’t want to spend that much but it’s been worth it since our last mattress was god awful.
