We JUST got our king midnight lux a few days ago. We are both mostly side sleepers, average healthy weight at 140 and 160 lbs in our early 50's. We are finding it pretty comfortable so far. It has a nice quilted pillow top but it's still firm and supportive, and although it has memory foam in it, you don't sink into a hole. It's responsive and easy to roll over. It's probably about as firm as you'd want to go as a side sleeper. Neither of us has woken up with pain since we've had this. There is also zoned support. If you walk on the mattress you can easily feel more support in the middle where your hips would be. We also tried a Tiami (a newer kid on the block) and I'm about to return it. It was a bit too firm. I'd rate the Helix as a 6 or 6.5 and the Tiami as a 7 or 7.5.
# UPDATE: 1 WEEK on the Tiami Mattress Just some context... I'm 5'7", 160 lbs, athletic build. My wife is 5'6", 140 lbs, average curvy build. We are both heavily side sleepers but also sleep in other positions. **FIRMNESS** When you stand next to this Tiami and press your hand down on top, it feels plush. Your hand immediately squishes in. But when you lie down on it, it definitely feels firmer. If anyone is familiar with the "float on top" feel of a latex mattress, this is very similar to that. But what I noticed is that the heavier parts of you, like the buttocks/hips, sink right in, while the light parts of you, like your calves, are floating on top. When lying on my back, I feel equally supported from my shoulders to my heels. If I was to put a number on it, from 1-10 with 10 being firmest, I'd rate this at a 7. Also, this top layer of Energex foam, reacts like latex, not memory foam. The sink in is immediate, as is the push back. There's no climbing out of a hole. Turning over from one side to another is easy. **MOTION ISOLATION** I have not felt much movement from my wife at all. Maybe she's not moving much now? I have no idea. But my sleep has not been distrubed by her movement, at least as far as I can tell. **OVERALL COMFORT** We got the Tiami mattress 7 days ago today, in the evening. We unboxed it and unwrapped it just hours before bedtime. It appeared fully expanded when we went to bed. Each night, as we have gotten used to a new mattress and the mattress breaks in (and probably expanded further) it has gotten more and more comfortable. We are at a point now were we both look forward to getting in it at night. Neither of us has had any discomfort. No pain, tingling, etc. My wife was having back issues with the previous mattress. **SLEEP POSITIONS** This mattress is billed as a one-firmness-fits-all, with its individually foam-cube-topped coils. If you are a strict back sleeper, you will probably love this bed. I have also been very comfortable on my stomach, although I do not spend a lot of time in this position. Side sleeping is the only position I'm currently a teeny bit unsure of, but this may just be a matter of getting used to the new feel. As I said earlier, it's more of a float on top feeling rather than a plush sink-in feeling, so my hips aren't sinking in as much as before. Which is probably a good thing. I have not any ANY discomfort issues. I obviously can't see my spine, but it may be better aligned than it was previously. **OVERALL THOUGHTS SO FAR** We are liking it, and at the moment I believe it's going to be a keeper! We are both comfortable and getting good sleep. We will see how things go over the next few weeks and see how my thoughts on side sleeping progress. I will do a one-month update next. Meanwhile, if you have specific questions, I will do my best to answer them.
Yep, just like most other mattresses. LOL Casper for example... one of their's contains "Align Memory Foam" topped with "Breathe Flex Foam". Tiami is similar with a layer of memory foam topped with their "Energex" foam. All I can say so far is that I had seen somewhere that the Energex layer was compared to latex in responsiveness and although it's been a minute since I've slept on a pure latex mattress, I'd say this top layer does react quite a lot like latex. After a week i'll give some initial sleeping/performance impressions.
Chronic back pain just walked into the room! I tried everything from super firm mattresses to pillow tops. What really helped me was finding something that adapted to how I move around at night instead of forcing me into one position. I've been sleeping on a Tiami hybrid for about a month now, and the responsive layers allow me to change positions without waking up stiff. Plus, the cooling effect is a bonus, as I tend to get hot when my back hurts.
fellow side sleeper here dealing with hip pain for years. after tons of research i ended up with a tiami hybrid and honestly it's been a game changer for the pressure points on my hips and shoulders. the foam layers actually cradle without that sinking feeling that makes you feel stuck, and i noticed the organic cotton cover stays way cooler than my old memory foam which was basically a heat trap at night. ps - they also got recognized by [wired](https://www.wired.com/gallery/best-mattresses/#68a8d17ed287a6c52d9a0cf9) as one of the best for stomach sleepers..
I also weigh around 230 pounds and sleep on my side with lower back problems. After trying so many mattresses that were too firm on my hips or too soft for my back, I finally found something that works. There is a brand, Tiami, that has a layer of adaptive foam that really adjusts to your weight and sleeping position. There are other options, of course, but this one has worked for me. Maybe you'll find this information useful.
Same here. Super plush feels amazing at first, but if your hips sink too much it throws everything off. Zoned support makes a big difference for combo sleepers. I also tried a few before landing on Tiami, and what stood out was that “on the bed” feel without pressure on the shoulders. At the end of the day, alignment > softness.
yeah the hybrid design really is something else. i switched from a tempur-pedic that was killing my shoulders and the difference in pressure relief is night and day. plus not waking up in a pool of sweat anymore is a huge win.
Fellow bodyworker here, I feel this in my soul. After a full day of leaning into tables, my lower back used to feel locked up every morning. For me, the biggest difference was moving away from an old sagging mattress to something supportive but still responsive. I needed solid lumbar support, but if it was too firm my hips and shoulders would ache since I change positions a lot. I ended up with a firmer hybrid from Tiami and it’s been a good balance. It keeps my spine aligned when I’m on my back, but still has enough give when I roll to my side. Hybrids in general can work well for physical jobs because the coil support helps prevent that “hammock” feeling that wrecks your lower back. I’d look for something medium-firm to firm with strong edge support and good motion response so you’re not fighting the mattress all night. Also, if your current mattress is old, honestly just replacing it might give you more relief than you expect. When your body is already under load all day, sleep support really matters.
I also needed firm for back pain but didn’t want that “sleeping on the floor” feeling. What helped me was looking for something supportive with a clean, simple build, not tons of layers that break down fast. I tried a firmer model from Tiami after going back and forth forever, and it surprised me. It feels solid and stable underneath, but not painfully stiff. My lower back stopped flaring up within a couple weeks. If returns stress you out, maybe focus on brands with straightforward trial periods and clear policies. Sometimes having that clarity upfront quiets the overthinking. At the end of the day, good sleep is worth the mental energy you’re spending right now.
I’m a side/combination sleeper too and had the same issue. Super soft foam felt great for a week, then my lower back hated me. What worked was a medium to medium-firm hybrid with zoned support, softer around shoulders, firmer through the hips. I ended up with Tiami after testing a few and it feels more “on” the bed than “in” it. For me, it was less about brand and more about balanced layers and proper support under the hips.
