I've had the Winkbed for 4 years and it's been great. Also, their customer service was great. I ordered the Plus (because I'm tall and very fat) and it was too firm. Contacted support and they sent out a Firm which was perfect for me. I sleep alone (see reason for ordering the Plus) and every 5 or 6 months my spot starts to be a little sunken, so I rotate it and that works great. I also got the bed frame thing that goes up and I really like being able to sit up in bed without having 12 pillows. My pillows are the Sleep Number Comfort Fit Classic and I love them. I sleep great tbh. I also bought some hella expensive sheets.
Winkbeds had an all foam Gravity Lux that does not sleep hot. The firm would be a good option for you. I currently have the hybrid Winkbeds Luxury Firm. It is cool sleeping as well and I am a side sometimes back sleeper. Both offer shoulder and hip relief and help support my lower back issues. I had the Saatva hybrid luxury firm..it was not as well made as my Winkbeds. On the Saatva I could feel down to the coils. Not fun. I exchanged for the new Saatva all foam medium mattress. It was perfect - except it runs hot. Otherwise pretty dreamy and supportive. Winkbeds is still the best and their customer service is up there like Saatva’s. Good luck.
Yes! Either one would work. I absolutely loved the way I felt on their Gravity Lux Medium..however, my lower lumbar needed more support, so I got the All foam gravity lux in a Queen for a good deal in the Firm. It still felt so nice and did not over heat and my shoulders felt relief (cushioned) amd my lower back did not hurt anymore. Fast forward five years and I decided to upgrade to the Hybrid Luxury Firm. Really well made and supports my back and shoulders and hips feel good. Meanwhile my husband is still loving his all foam gravity lux and going on six years no issues. I just went for the hybrid because I felt like it supports my lower back a bit better; but it could just be that I thought my issue with my back was the mattress, so I got the hybrid. My husband has lower back issues and he will never get anything but Winkbeds All foam gravity lux. So either one you cant go wrong. Winkbeds is the best company!! Do not do any toppers or latex. The Plus is too hard. Enjoy!! If I did not have a sore lower back I would buy the Gravity Lux Medium.
I tried the Contour5 Medium from Saatva and I loved it too; BUT, had to return it because it heated up too much. The Winkbeds all foam Gravity Lux is awesome and does not heat up on me. They have a super comfy all foam in Medium like the Countour5 in feel, but a lot less money and is cooler.
I have noticed sinking in less than one year with the Firm. What an overpriced waste of a mattress.
I went to a place that had Nolah Evolution, Wink Bed (multiple), Leesa (multiple), Puffy (3), and Brooklyn Bedding (3). Trying them on close succession was super helpful. They didn’t have helix but I tried this somewhere else (midnight luxe and elite), as well as Saatva (classic, Rx, and their all foam beds). I also tried others I passed on for being too cheap and feeling cheap, or for being over $3,500 which was above what I would spend. Remember that Helix, Brooklyn Bedding, Leesa, Nolah, Bear, and a few others are all 3Z’s brands made in Arizona at the same factory. - Helix Midnight *Elite* (edit, incorrectly wrote luxe) was a winner but… there were two things I didn’t love. While being super comfortable, supportive overall with great edge and mid support, and felt cool - it had a little more spring than I liked, and was slightly firmer than some other beds. Part of the firmness and spring comes from having two levels of springs. One at the lower level and micro springs higher up. It’s also priced as a premium option. While cheaper than Tempurpedic and Beauty Rest, it’s just not an amazing value option where you must love it to pay $3k+. At $2k or slightly above, this would have been an instant buy for me. (Edit for clarity: Luxe didn’t feel as supportive, or overall as nice as more expensive Luxe) - Nolah Evolution felt remarkably similar to Midnight *Elite* for being half the price. It’s not quite as supportive, doesn’t have as much spring feel, but felt “right” for someone wanting something between medium and soft. I loved this bed. While I preferred Helix slightly, at half the price - I almost bought this because it’s insane value and very comfortable. - Leesa was not my thing. They had sent me a targeted offer for Legend Chill which was a great value at almost 50% off retail and had great reviews. I just didn’t want to mess with this if I couldn’t try it. The two I tried in store didn’t feel as substantial to me. The Legend Chill was not something I could try, but I tried the Sapira and it was too floppy and so cheaply made that I could feel the coils on the side so took a pass. - Wink Bed. I tried firm and soft. It’s a quality and comfortable bed, but I hated this bed in both feels because it was way too springy for my taste. I come from Tempurpedic and Sealy gel foam beds and my partner can feel any move I made. People seem to love or hate this bed. The store owner told me he sells a lot of them, but it’s returned sometimes because of firmness or spring. - Brooklyn Bedding. I tried the CopperFlex, Signature, Aurora. I liked them all, and prices were great, but I didn’t love any of these. I preferred the Helix Elite and Nolah Evolution, and the Nolah price is just phenomenal. - Puffy. This felt great and supportive. I love their highest end bed the most, but it’s a little too firm for my taste, and moved more than I liked. It barely fit my below $3,500 range and I preferred other options. - Saatva. I loved the RX bed. It’s a softer Helix Midnight Elite, but you can feel the movement slightly more. If this were cheaper, I would have bought this. The classic was way too firm and springy for my taste. The full memory foam bed they made was actually phenomenal. It was the only all foam bed I found as good as temperpedic, and could have happily bought that or Rx. - Tempurpedic. Great for my taste, but too expensive to get one of their premium beds. What did I buy? Thermo Balance Elite from Brooklyn Bedding. Why? I called 3Z’s. I told them exactly what I said above about their beds on their various brands versus others and what I wanted. They said the best option for a very supportive bed like the Helix Midnight Elite that was my favorite, but had more cooling, less movement (1 coil set, no micro coil), and very slightly less firmness on the medium firmness was the Thermo Balance Elite in Medium. I asked why elite and not the cheaper version, and they said it has an improved spring system for middle support and higher density premium phase change foam. They also said if I don’t love the bed, they’d give me back $1,200 and switch me out to a Nolah bed. My Thermo balance elite comes next week, and it was $600+ cheaper than Helix Midnight Luxe. I didn’t want to buy a bed I didn’t try, but they gave me a great price, promised me a refund of $1,200 and a replacement to Nolah Evolution bed (which i did try and like) if I wasn’t happy. So my advice is give the Midnight Luxe time if you do have it, and then if you don’t love it, don’t keep it. It’s an expensive bed and 3Z’s has a ton of great options, and Saatva does too.
Grateful for the Sandman Store in STL. I was ready to buy the Plank Extra Firm but after trying them all side by side I went with the Wink Firm. I do think much is a matter of personal preference.
Honestly for under $2k the Winkbed soft is decent but I wouldn't call it THE best you can buy. Don't get me wrong, Winkbed makes solid mattresses with good quality materials and they're pretty transparent about their specs (which is more than you can say for most of the big brands). For that price range, you've got some serious competition and there are smaller manufacturers making similar quality hybrid mattresses for way less money if you know where to look. The soft version IS comfortable though, I'll give you that. Good pressure relief, decent motion isolation. But keep in mind that softer mattresses generally don't last as long, especially if you're heavier or a side sleeper who really sinks in. I’m saying this for the sake of other users lurking here, so they don’t just grab a soft mattress without considering all of this first. If you're happy with it and got a good deal, you did fine. But the "best" mattress is really the one that fits YOUR body and sleep needs.
I'd be SUPER careful with Tempur-Pedic. Not saying they're terrible, but if you're already dealing with support issues, you want to make sure you know what materials you're getting into. TP's aren't praised for it's support, they're actually quite NOTORIOUS for lacking it. TP makes decent quality memory foam mattresses (usually 5+ lb density which is good), but the exact same quality materials from a local manufacturer, or a brand like Helix, will cost you WAY less. Memory foam can be tricky for combo sleepers because it's great for pressure relief but can make it harder to change positions and actually SUPPORT you while at it. I think that by "Piranha" you meant "Prana Sleep" and they're actually one of the better "premium" brands out there. They use Talalay latex in a lot of their models which is good stuff for combo sleepers. Latex gives you that responsive feel where you can move around easily (unlike memory foam where you feel stuck), and it's durable as hell. SO, you’re literally looking at opposite ends here, and both are mostly sold through retail stores with MASSIVE markups. The materials are good, don’t get me wrong, but you’re paying for the brand name, fancy showroom experience, and sales commissions. For the situation you guys have going on, I’d honestly look into Helix or Prana. Both are clear winners here, since they’re very responsive mattresses compared to TP, they won’t trap and suffocate you like traditional memory foam does, and they’re also more supportive. So, judging by the fact you're upgrading partly due to aches and pains, I'm guessing you don't want to do this again in another 3-4 years. I'm a bit biased here, because I actually SLEEP on a Helix mattress and wake up feeling brand new everyday, but if you go with Helix, I’d recommend checking out the Midnight or Dusk with the ErgoAlign layer, specially the Elite version for a better balance between comfort and support. Sunset and Moonlight will be too soft, and if you’re heavier they’ll feel even softer. Twilight and Dawn will probably be too firm to sleep on your side or if you're lighter.
I think the insert would be your best first step. One of the benefits of the Elite mattresses is you can just swap out the insert for a softer feel. I agree with the other comment about trying the Sunset Elite insert. In my experience, that is super soft. I also agree with the Nolah Evolution Plush being a good option but, if you find the Midnight Elite to be too firm, the WinkBed Soft will probably be too firm for you (it wasn't super soft in my experience).
I think my Winkbed soft is the best I can buy for under $2k. Agree?
