Similar experience to mine with the 750P series. about 2 months after i bought it i noticed no internet, rebooted mutliple times nothing, couldnt access the unit on the app or the web management, full pin reset and it was back up, so i didnt think anything of it. 2 weeks later same issue. Called support they had me manually install the same firmware that was on the router and satillites, all good for about 6 weeks the it did it again. Previous tech said if it does it again they will RMA the router but dont hard reset as they wanted to see if they could get logs. So i call support again only to be told while my units are still under hardware warranty the included "tech support" is only 90 days and I'd have to buy a tech plan starting at $99. I'm like oh no thnkas you can just RMA, look at the history of the serial number. Tech tells me they cants RMA it unless they "troubleshoot" the issue and they cant do that unless i buy a plan.. I nearly lose it on the phone. guy puts me on hold for like 10 mins only to come back and tell methe RMA is approved. Replacement unit shows up 2 days later, all good right? wrong. I had the 750P model from best buy which is an AX5400, they replaced the router with the 750 model which is said to have a better cpu and mo0re antennas but is only an AX4200 unit. I do use the wireless backhaul to connect my audio system to my network and the things i have in the basement so I was a litter concerned. The first issue I had was getting the Satillies to connect correctly to the 750 as the sats are like the router the 750P model line, They would connect but never stay synced, googling the error pointed to bad signal even though they were in the smae spots. As luck would have it Support called me just to verify it showed up to which i told them they sent the wrong unit, they reopened the case and told me they would send a second replacemeent the 760 which is the new direct replacement of the 750p, i asked them to verify it works correctly with the satillies whcih they did. That showed up this morning, and the satillites just wouldnt connect, took about 2 hours to get them to connect and they still seem glitchy.. My patience with netgear had run out, I just picked up the TP Link Deco BE65 Pro BE11000 kit and will be setting that up in the morning then probably selling the netgear cheap or giving it to a friend or something.
Check Facebook marketplace. I was able to find and Orbi 2pck of WiFi 6 for $80. Works perfectly
No upgrading to 2 gig would do absolutely nothing, your problem right now is your Wifi coverage. Orbi's are usually pretty decent but it really depends on the model. If you have the 300 series (Like the Orbi 370) they don't perform that well when they are not hard-wired together (through ethernet) If you have the Orbi 700/900 series try to move them closer together/check connection strength in the Orbi app. If you have ethernet going around the house (homes built from 2006-2019 generally have them, after that they started relying on wifi stupidly) you can make the 300 series work very well. You can buy some cheap ethernet cables and connect them to the Mesh system and you should get substantially better speeds. Keep in mind however you would have to have the infrastructure to get those Ethernet ports to actually be "live" the easiest way to identify if you have this is to see is to figure out where all the Ethernet ports are going (usually in some utility closet) You should see a box that all the ethernet wires connect into, if you just see wires your going to need to be a "Gigabit Network Switch" with the amount of ports needed, If it's not near your ont your going to have some issues, but you might be able to send ethernet back down if you have an ethernet near your main Orbi base. If you don't have Ethernet you should upgrade to a substantially better Mesh system that uses different antennas for the backhaul (connecting the routers to the extenders) these are generally pretty pricey ($500-$700 like for the Orbi ) but they might be the only way. Now if you are willing to give Verizon a shot your plan probably includes "whole home wifi" where Verizon will figure out the extender situation and make sure you have a good connection in most places but you'll have to use their equipment. As for that "white box" I don't really know what that could be unless it's an old power supply for the ONT (does it have a power connector on one end?) Just a quick thing the "black modem" is called an ONT it essentially does the same thing as a "modem" on a cable provider (Take the Fiber coming in and convert it the protocol + connector to ethernet). Also out of curiosity how big is your home, that may be causing some issues
My parents have same kind of house, with their Xfinity broadband in the 3rd floor TV room. I ran Cat6 across the back down to the 1st floor for back haul and an Orbi WiFi6 mesh router now gives great signal house-wide (yard too!)
I went from an old Orbi RB system to the 770 and have loved it! Sorry to hear so many haven’t. But so far it’s been great for me all around.
I hated the WiFi 6 Orbi system I bought. It was lacking so many fairly basic features, such as QoS, firmware updates breaking basic functionality, and a very lackluster app-focused experience. I replaced it with an ASUS WiFi 7 system comprised of a RoG router with two Zen nodes and it’s been a lot more solid with far more configuration options than I’ve ever seen on a residential router. Maybe the Orbi WiFi 7 line has solved their earlier issues, but I’ll never buy one again based on my prior experience.
I’ve used before netgear Orbi mesh WiFi 6 router with two satellites. Worked well. Expensive but I guess was worth. Still use it now in the apartment but with one satellite in the bedroom only just in case
I have to agree on “consumer” grade mesh systems, I have tried Asus and two different Netgear Orbi systems (last one cost me $1800 at the time) and all I get is headaches. They last for a month or so and then lose satellites and devices are always dropping until I reset it and then a week later all over again. So I decided instead of dropping another $1200-1800 on a Wifi 7 Consumer Mesh I would invest in Ubiquiti equipment, now I don’t have it running yet but will be using Mesh on the second floor AP as I don’t care if it’s full speed or not.
