Depends on what you want. Do you want future proof WiFi 7, an more options to control? I’ve had mesh systems from Linksys, tp link, net gear and honestly I’ve found tp link is great. They’re kind of lax on the updates but functionality wise, great system. I have my moms place on the deco be 85s and all 3 are wired back hauled. If you want wireless back haul consider maybe a deco 95. What is the sq ft of the house? How many stories? Do you need service out in the garage if detached? In my semi truck I’m running the deco be65 outdoor since it’s built for weather and harsh environments. But like I said it all depends what you want to do with it or if you like to customize. To me the app is great. You can see what each device is pulling in terms of data

Just because of the Firmware issues I've heard with Orby stuff, I'd go Eero. Tp-Link also makes outdoor nodes for their Deco system though, not all of them come in an outdoor configuration but there are a couple that do. The Wi-Fi seven options that come in an outdoor configuration are the be25 and the BE65. Then for Wi-Fi six, the X20 and X50 have outdoor versions. I can from personal firsthand experience recommend Deco. In fact, I prefer it over Eero because it's a little bit more customizable and there's more ethernet ports on the nodes. Also it's cheaper so that's a win.

What's wrong with your current system exactly, what model even is it? As for a budget triband Wi-Fi seven system, I can recommend the Tp-Link Deco BE65, I'd say BE63 if you were in the US, apparently it's not available outside the US. Just be warned if you have a lot of devices and don't reboot the system a lot, it can become a bit unstable, at least that's what happens with our BE63.

If all you need is three SSI'Ds, a main one, a guest one, and an IOT one, that is definitely possible to do with most Deco systems. If you need more control than that, including control over the SSIDs that you can create besides blanket network isolation, you'll need something like Ubiquity, though an Asus mesh system could also work if you want that kind of form factor, you can get it with Ubiquity but you won't have nearly the same amount of options.

You can get a two pack, set one up where the current router is, and position one on the second floor slightly offset from where that first one is to allow the signal to propagate to it a little bit more efficiently. Or you can use wired backhaul if possible. Deco probably won't increase your speed, just your Wi-Fi coverage, so if you're getting good coverage on your second floor and first floor, then Deco won't help. Also, your issue most likely comes from the adapter, some of them just are not that amazing because they use small PCB mounted antennas. What speeds do you get downstairs with your phone right next to the router?

Before I changed to a Unifi stack (UCG-Max plus some camera's and some AC HD AP's that are meshed), I used TP-LINK DECO Mesh AP's, they work quite well and very easy to set up.

My system restarts when having MLO/Wifi7 enabled. Turned that band off and it’s works flawlessly since then no. BE65.

BE25 are good and that’s a pretty good deal. I would probably get 4 units, one for each floor if you have a little extra budget then you could get the BE65 as main router the BE25 as access points. For the best result I recommend a bit of a manual process. Setup the main Deco on the first floor and the go upstairs and do you own little speed test survey with your phone in different locations and find out where the access points is best placed on that floor. Then install the access points and move up a floor and repeat. Should be possible to get good connections through wooden floor and may you could even get it with 3 units, so you could start by getting them and adding a 4th if needed. If you setup a new Deco as main router, then you can just use the same SSID and password as the ond one and your devices will reconnect to the new router.

TP link Deco is fine, I have it covering my house and I’m really happy with it. Buy a 3 pack, maybe the BE65 and place one by the modem and connect it to the internet modem and the two remote units to it via Ethernet, maybe with a unmanaged switch in between if you need additional units or extended cabeling.

See if you can skip the virgin hub/router and plug your Deco right on the Ethernet coming out of the fiber box or ask that Virgin set it in bridge mode and then add your first Deco and a main router. If you have lived with a single Virgin WiFi router until now then I doubt you will need 3 x BE65, how big is your house?

Yes! I’ve got a single BE65 as main unit connected to the fiber in my basement, ethernet from basement to an unmanaged PoE switch at my office on high ground floor and PoE to a X50 mounted in the ceiling of my living room and this covers my entire 160m2 old brick house and terrace outside my living room. I’ve then got a x50-PoE Outdoor in my carport for my car and charger. Tv, Sonos, Hue, alarm system and office docking station are all on cable to a switch and I’ve got about 10 IOT on wireless. Looking at the Deco app right now I have 26 online clients. BE65 also supports NAS USB storage and I thought I was going to use it for Apple Time Machine backup but apple stopped supporting that, so now I have a 1TB NAS included in my setup. Works great! Ps. this setup replaced 5 Google Mesh gen. 2 access points and performs way better, more stable, better coverage and 2-3 times the speed.

I recommend TP link Deco, there is s nice user friendly app and it’s an easy setup. However as someone else wrote, mesh can be difficult on different floors without some cabeling in between floors. I have set it up at one location with an outdoor deco x50 as the main point and then 8 indoor units to cover 8 apartments in two floors and that works good, so that’s an alternative solution for you to consider.

I recently got the BE65 3 pack, one on each floor, ISP modem hard wired to main router on ground floor which is hard wired to 2nd one on middle floor, second one hard wired to 3rd one on third floor. Solid connection and solid app. No more complaining kids, no more freezing Teams calls, shits all over my previous Linksys routers and the worst app in the world!

You can mix and match Deco models within the same network, so either model will work fine. It mainly depends on your specific network needs and goals. For example, compared to the X50-Outdoor, the BE25-Outdoor utilizes the newer Wi-Fi 7 protocol and has nearly double the 5 GHz bandwidth, as well as a slightly higher bandwidth on the 2.4 GHz band, plus 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connectivity. What's your Internet speed, and how many devices do you have connected to your network currently? If you can find the BE25-Outdoor for the same price or less than the X50-Outdoor, then it may be worth considering the faster and newer model.

Totally agree that mesh is the way to go. One thing to keep in mind with the brick veneer mentioned earlier: if Node 1 is in the garage, the signal has to punch through an external brick wall just to get to the rest of the house. In that specific layout, the extra cash for WiFi 7 (like the Deco BE85 or BE65) actually makes sense. It uses MLO (Multi-Link Operation), which lets the nodes talk to each other across multiple bands at the same time. It’s way better at 'punching' through that first brick wall and the floor to reach the upstairs node without the speeds dropping off a cliff. WiFi 6E is great, but WiFi 7 is built for exactly this kind of 'obstacle course' layout.
