TP-Link - Deco X80-5G

I recommend TP-Link Deco or Omada systems.

At this point, just go with what your gut tells you. I personally have good experience with TP-Link. As of now, I have the Deco X90, X95, X80-5G mesh routers, and the Archer BE900, GE800 router models. All have been working reliably.

Glad for all the happy guys, I had a XE75 pro 3 pack but sold one of the nodes, in hindsight what I should have gotten was X80. I have a seperate network that’s better with 2.4ghz speed and effective range, I found my x20s had better 2.4ghz range than my xe75 pros. Allwell you only learn such specific optimisations through trial and error. My favourite network is still my 3 pack x20s , have one of them in a roofspace acting as a wireless ethernet port into a cluster of camera. X75 pro force backhaul onto 6ghz which would cause such extreme situations to work poorly compared to the amazing network range of the x20s backhaul.

Plus one here for Deco. I have four WiFi 6 models. Mesh is a better solution I agree. WiFi 7 models are still very expensive but few devices are compatible at the moment so for me WiFi 6 is the best option for the money.

You can buy 2 unit. The main one being in the house and another garage. However, it’s hard to determine which type of connection can be used to connect the unit between the garage and the house since i’m not an expert. But if you can run ethernet from the house to the garage than you can connect the deco together via wired backhaul. The deco does have a wireless backhaul where you don’t need a cable for the two to connect but it may or may not work depending on the yard length. You could go with an outdoor unit on the yard and that would possibly be a wirless bridge between the unit in garage and unit in your house - would suggest the outdoor unit to be wired to the one in your house. That said, if you can figure that part of how to connect the deco together, i think you mean 1 gigabit internet speed instead of 1 gigabyte but if you want best performance on wifi you should go with Deco with Wifi 6E or Wifi 7. Wifi 6 is a cheaper choice but expect to get only 700-800mbps on average even in ideal condition based from my previous setup. That said it’s important that your device support wifi 6E or wifi 7 too since it’s recently introduced. Wired ethernet is also a great choice too.

I have a basement, first, second and third floors. ISP's router on the first floor (WiFi 7), and a TP-Link Deco on the third floor (WiFi 6) that's wired to the router on the first floor. Coverage is fine, 500+ mbit everywhere. I dislike the Deco's forced online login and management via a phone app only, and its lack of logging or other functions, so I recommend against it, but otherwise the performance is more than acceptable. And the ISP router is pretty damned good (Orange Funbox 10).

First off, sorry to hear about the lightning strike — that’s rough, glad at least two units survived. Mixing in Wi-Fi 6E/7 with your existing Wi-Fi 6 Decos won’t really unlock their full potential, since the mesh will still lean on the lowest standard. Unless you plan to replace the whole setup, you won’t see a big jump. If your two current units are still covering fine, the safest move is just adding another Wi-Fi 6 Deco to keep everything consistent. Wi-Fi 7 is great long-term (throughput, latency, efficiency), but right now it’s only worth it if you’re going all-in or already have a bunch of 6E/7 client devices. As for the AX-50 Outdoor — it’s solid for extending coverage outside (yard, patio, garage). It’s basically just a weatherproof Deco, so don’t expect crazy speed boosts compared to indoor nodes, but range is quite decent.

I have a TP link Deco with all nodes hardwired it works brilliantly. Anything wireless is not going to perform it’s best especially as most people put mesh nodes in the wrong place

Deco is great using the older wifi 6 stuff and have great stability and speed, highly recommended

I run the 22000 version of these in my main home and the wifi6 version in a 2nd home, where they have been for over 4 years now. I have mine wired backhauled and get solid, fast connections with both. I upgraded from a nighthawk router with the 22000's about 6 months ago and saw speed improvements across the board. The app that comes with it is very intuitive and works for me. I have been reading the articles on the possible ban and I am not concerned. I know others will tell you to go cheaper, or avoid TP-Link, and their opinions are just as valid as mine, but for me the TP-Link mesh just works. Other mesh I have tried and not been a fan of include Google and eero. Good luck

I use deco pods. Super easy to set up. I'd recommend wiring in every access point. Mesh systems tend to lower total available bandwith, since things need to get broadcast more than one.

I have a TP-Link Deco mesh system running to cover my 3200sqft two story house. I have no issues whatsoever. And mesh systems are not simply extenders. As you move about your house you will have seamless coverage with mesh.

1000 sqft does not need a mesh network. Get a solid AP or wireless router. I have the TP-link Deco network and it covers my 3200 sqft two story 4 bedroom house nicely. Anymore than one AP or wireless router will be overkill and unnecessary.

I moved into a new place a year ago and ran.limited Ethernet cable. Using a tp-link deci mesh system to cover 3200 sqft (two floors). Great coverage throughout. I was surprised as I took the approach you are describing with my old house. Honestly, both perform the same. General use is streaming and remote work. No gaming. So, depending on your use, you might be overthinking. I saw the cat8 comment - you have a house not a colo, no need for cat 8.

In my old house I had PoE unifi APs all with the same network name and it generally worked as a mesh network. When I moved I switched to a TP-Link Deco Mesh network with three APs. I was going to backhaul all of them, but after using it for a few months I found the speed and coverage was fine and the backhaul wasn't needed. They are not PoE units, so each one would need to be plugged in. But they are unobtrusive in the house. The first month the system seemed to learn as it was spotty. But then I found great coverage. The biggest difference I have found is that the Unifi APs tended to hang on to the connection vs handing it off to the next AP like the Deco does. I was very reluctant and skeptical of mesh after reading reviews, but I really could not be happier and the set up was a heck of a lot easier than running new Ethernet lines.
