I used a coleman mummy bag for years truck camping for ice fishing high in the Colorado Rockies. Also, nalgene (thick) water bottle with an old thick sock over it, throw 1 or 2 in the bag a bit before bedtime, 1 in the toe box can make a big difference edit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009PUSO4?th=1 the one I bought almost 10 years ago, I was good in my truck camping setup well below 0F
Coleman north rim 0 degree mummy bag is like 75 bucks
Yes I have 2 I love it
Check out the Coleman North Rim 0° bag on Amazon - usually around $75 and will handle those temps way better than anything else in ur budget range.
Mi first bag was Coleman mummy synthetic bag. 50$. Good till 32F, then you’re really cold. Second bag is Nemo disco 15F. ~300$ on sale. And I got Disco 30F for 200$. Coleman isnt compact but does the job. Nemo’s got some room at expense of worth but they’re compact AF
The temperature ratings on higher end bags will adhere to an industry standard, namely ISO 23537/EN 13537 which specifies the testing requirements as well as provide you with a comfort, limit and extreme temperature rating. From what I can see, Coleman doesn't seem to provide that so you'll be forced to trust their marketing numbers. For example, the ISO/EN tested bags assume you are wearing a warm base layer, hat and using a sleeping pad with a R4.8 rating. Who knows what Coleman is expecting you to be using? If you go with the Coleman, make sure you test it out before you use it on a trip. Set it up on your deck or balcony and you'll know within 15 min whether or not you made the right choice.
Not who you asked but I'd consider Kelty to be a lateral move from OP's current Coleman. Both make reasonable bags for car camping, but not anything I'd want to carry. Personally, I use a 32 degree Marmot bag for backpacking and it replaced(and is actually warmer than) a 0 degree bag from Kelty. The UL crowd really likes quilts instead of a traditional sleeping bag so that might also be worth considering. I'd also mention that the sleeping pad is a major factor in warmth so don't forget that. I bought a Neoair when they first came out and that made a huge comfort difference for me compared to the thin foam pads I had before.
