Based on 1 year's data from Mar 18, 2026 How it works
I car camped in the Ozarks a few months back. It got to 7°F, and all I had was a 10° Ozark Trail bag from Walmart ($40) and I slept like a hibernating bear.
I ended up with ozark 10 degree bag, for $40. Gonna test it, and see how it holds, and go from there. I will have mattress topper + some blankets, and probably some backup layers if things get wild (which I doubt will).
Get the warmest bags at Walmart you can afford, and hope for better weather. Dont block all the vent at top, tho or it will turn into a shower inside. If it's 50 take at least a 30F bag as its rated to keep you alive not sleeping well at that number. Not cozy. Im linking one that claims 10F for its features, a mummy bag is easier to keep warm in that a much larger square one, less area to keep heating up. Look for a draft collar to stop air loss around the neck, use the hood, don't breathe inside the bag and have a lot of insulation under. Tbh a lot of the Ozark Trail stuff ain’t half bad. And in the past few years it’s been getting better
Are you backpacking? Is the weight or bulk of the gear a concern? What temperatures do you expect during your trip? Are you a side sleeper? Mummy bags are warmer but not very comfortable for side sleepers. For $100 I'd recommend the Ozark Trail brand at Walmart. It's good enough for occasional use and way cheaper than any of the premium brands.
