I did a pretty serious hike with just Walmart gear, but I have since upgraded to mostly budget online / Chinese brands. Here's approximately what I have: Tent: Paria Outdoors Arches 2P Trekking Pole Tent / 3FULGEAR Lanshan 2 / Naturehike Cloud Up UL 2P / Naturehike Cloud Up EXT 2P. I have a Lanshan 2 with solid inner as well as the Cloud Up EXT. I think the Arches is a better trekking pole tent if you don't care about having a solid inner. Pad: Walmart CCF + OneTigris NobleJade sleeping pad. Bag: Paria Outdoors Thermodown 30 Down Quilt + I like having a sleeping bag liner for ease of washing. I actually have the 15 degree version. Backpack: Naturehike 60+5L backpack / 3FULGEAR Yue 55 / 3FULGEAR Tianshan. Cooking: Paria and Fire Maple have some good stuff. Trekking poles: I have some CMT ones and some BD ones.
i honestly dont know how much warm it provides but i like my s2s reactor bag liner. much better feel than my nylon quilt. but matched with my paria 15deg quilt, ive found it a good winter camp combo. that's with a nemo tensor extreme and ccf pad. also have a zero deg teton bag i use at hunting camp. thing is budget friendly ($100) bulky and wicked cozy. if space isnt concern, and budget is, its a good option. can look into bedrolls too. can throw certain setups in a snowbank and sleep cozy. have no product experience tho
yea have their 15 deg quilt and also have been down to the teens with it, granted i was a couple beers deep that trip so may not be the best test study.
I'm using a Paria Outdoors Thermodown 15F Quilt! Packs down pretty small and they have a 30F degree version too I think.
I have a quilt from Paria Outdoors (15F) that I’ve had for around 8 years, it is super warm and allows plenty of movement/weird sleeping positions. Plus you can use it as a blanket while sitting around camp, share it with a partner or a dog, and it keeps me super warm and cozy. As others have mentioned, they come with straps to cut out drafts when it gets really cold. The shock cord wore out recently and Paria sent me a bunch for free, I replaced it and good as new. I will not go back to mummy bags or any sleeping bag, quilts only for me
Paria Outdoor- incedible quality, especially at the price point. Their down sleeping quilt is wonderful and I’ve used it many times.
Paria Outdoors Thermodown quilts have served me really well
Echoing what others have said, there’s lots of great material on r/ultralight and YouTube; recommendations would be JupiterHikes (some of his most recent videos discuss maintaining comfort while hiking ul) or people like Eric Hanson who do budget ul gear lists. These resources may be helpful in answering other questions that will come up. You should also consider checking out places like Garage Grown Gear and seeing what is for sale there to decide what you do/don’t want To answer the questions that you put forward here: 1. Lanshan 1 is a good tent. If you get one, the price increase for the pro is worth it in my opinion, and you should consider getting the silpoly model. If this is your price range, you could also consider trying out tarp camping with or without a bivy; you can get a tarp and bivy from somewhere like Borah gear for the same price or less for about half the weight. 2. What’s your price range for a sleeping bag? You can find plenty of UL bags and quilts that weigh a pound or less in the $300-500 range. If you’re looking for something cheaper (but heavier) I’ve been really happy with the Paria outdoors thermodown 15 below 0C 3. I have no experience with nature hike, but if you want a lanshan and buy directly from 3F UL Gear, their qidian packs ($60 for the normal, $90 for pro) are often compared to the nature hike packs. These are some of the most inexpensive packs on the market while still being functional. The one I mentioned is frameless but they have framed packs as well. You could at the very least save a little on shipping. 4. Inflatable pads will always be a risk; some are more durable than others, but leaks or failures are always going to be a possibility. If you’re comfortable and already have a foam pad, use it. It will always be more reliable and if down the line you decide you need an inflatable pad, there are lots of recommendations online. Hope this helps and wishing you the best out there!
Quilts: Paria outdoors or hammock gear burrow/enlightenment quilts Pads: paria outdoors ul pad or thermarest x lite nxt or whatever it’s called
I also have have a paria top quilt that I love. Might not be best quality but pretty damn good for the price.
